I'm starting to think that what Des is doing in the alt-timeline is the mission that Widmore had planned for him and is the weapon to defeat Flocke- i.e. that test blast of magnetic energy was not an experiment but instead served to open a link for Des btwn the two worlds; Widmore may even have intentionally set up things because he wanted Des to get "kidnapped".
All-in-all I have the sneaky suspicion that Widmore's plan against Flocke is already in motion..

I think Flocke knows this, which is why he threw him down the well.

Of course, if Des is a threat, why didn't Flocke go all smokey on him and kill him?

Is it saying Richard? It's a little unclear.....

If it is, perhaps it's Jacob.....

-----------------------------------------

A theory:

I think that the elf kid that we keep seeing is Jacob. When we first saw him a few episodes ago, he was younger, and now he looks like a teenager. I think he's quickly aging until he looks the way Jacob looked when he "died".

Perhaps when the MiB had Jacob killed, he knew that Jacob was going to eventually return, and he was just buying time while Jacob was gone so that he could escape from the island.

I am in agreement with your theory. I too believe him to be Jacob.

That's why he keeps freaking out every time he sees him. Question is why do other people see him too ?
Has he taken on a body like FLocke ?

The last time Desmond lived through a magnetic anomaly, he came out seeing the future. Desmond might have been compliant with Sayid because he knows what's going to happen. He wasn't afraid of Flocke because he knows the well isn't that deep. I think Desmond has seen the last episode.

Jacob makes a kind of sense, except that we've seen Jacob as a full grown man since he died (a ghost talking to Hurley). I'm wondering if it's Aaron somehow. And is the ginger kid getting older, or is it the same kid each time?

mt

So did Desmond believe Flocke was the real Locke or whut? He called him Locke a couple of times and then he ran him over, though it's not really Locke. So again - whut!

2 tiny bits stood out for me - the guy in the chicken costume looked very sinister and they mentioned God about 4 or 5 times.

That line re: Locke is very important IMHO. I suspect that Desmond ultimately realises that Locke will return (somehow) to his body....

Because the writers couldn't figure out how to make the plot work that way. The same reason they go for the dynamite twice before finally deciding to just use grenades that they seemingly knew were there the whole time. The same reason Hurley, Jack and Sun go over to Lockes camp for no reason.

What was the point of characters such as Shannon and Boone, and Mr Eko? Why did the smoke monster kill Mr Eko?

Does the smoke monster "possess" bodies? If that is the case, is it possible the smoke monster used one of the Oceanic 815 bodies to manipulate them throughout the series? Was the smoke monster just in smoke form before it met John Locke?

Is the MiB still alive in non-smoke form?

It was a distinct male voice. I recorded it. Here it is.

That didn't really sound like "Richard" to me. More like "Rachel". :D

Was the smoke monster just in smoke form before it met John Locke?

No. The body it had before has been in a couple episodes. I know we've seen him in Season 6 (can't remember which episode), but I know for a fact he's in the opening sequence in the last episode of Season 5. That's how he got the name "Man in Black" or "MiB".

Now, whether or not that body was the original body or that was another Locke is unknown.

I think Desmond has seen the last episode.

Ha! And agreed.

I still think it's Jacob.

I think that Jacob has powers/abilities that we still aren't aware of. Maybe Jacob allowed Ben to stab him without fighting back because he knew that he would eventually be back. It was a chance for him to truly test the Candidates' free will... without his supervision and protection from the MiB.

Perhaps ghost-Jacob is Jacob's consciousness, and the elf boy is his quickly growing/maturing body or vessel that his consciousness will take full control of once it's caught up.

It would be pretty cool if Jacob and MiB couldn't be killed, because whenever they are, they come back as a child form of themselves and grow up to resume their role. It plays into the theme of childbirth, and the obsession that the others have had with children since day one.

You're right. There's gotta be something big relating to children. The statue is of Taweret, the Egyptian goddess of birth, the emphasis of children (Walt, this new kid, Aaron), inability to give birth on the island. Something is related here, we just don't know, yet.

I have a theory that since the statue was destroyed, that's when the inability to give birth on the island began.

Very interesting. This is quite possible, since we know little to nothing about the Island prior to when the Black Rock crashed there (taking down the statue in the process).

Another thing we can include with the child theme is MiB's (and perhaps Jacob's) crazy mother, be her literal or figurative. I definitely think MiB's explanation to Kate about his crazy mother will be significant in the final hours of the show.

Maybe Jacob and MiB are from the future, but traveled from the future to the past, then lived to the present. Which means that their parents could be people we already know.

MiB could then be Aaron ... interesting ...

Jacob could be Charlie?

If we follow along Doctor Q's thoughts on time travel, the MiB being Aaron is a reasonable theory. His mother is crazy..... Claire is crazy..... hmmmmmm

I don't think that Jacob is Charlie though.... a name change seems kind of lame.

Maybe Zach is Jacob. He doesn't have a listed parent. And he's the boy in the Jungle. They both look a lot alike.

From Lostpedia : The boy in the jungle.

The casting call described him as "Teenage boy, caucasian, 12-14. Dirty blond hair. Wise beyond his years. He's got intense, searching eyes. He's dealt with a horrible family accident. Even at a young age, he has been put in charge of something very important, and it weighs heavily on his shoulders

I don't believe that for a second. In the same episode Claire is shown to be mad, then someone claimed that the MiB's mother was mad. It's just way too obvious so it must be wrong. Given this is Lost an all :p

I know. I wouldn't say that I'm strongly considering it, but it's not completely out of the question for things to turn out that way.

Knowing Lost, the MiB will turn out to be his own grandpa.

Come on, Decksnap the truth takes all the fun out of it.

I do agree with you ... to a point ... But you have to admit the talk of loopholes and "the rules" sure sounds like a kid's game. The notion that the Jacob-MiB struggle started in their childhood, to me, sounds convincing.

I think the little boy in the jungle is Jacob, especially since the MiB tells everyone just to ignore him and it's obvious that the boy's appearance annoys him - perhaps this isn't the first time the MiB had killed Jacob, and his ghost appears to taunt him.

As far as Desmond, I think he's got to be alive still. Either that or his death down the magnetic well opened up some power that will allow Whitmore to zap the MiB.

I think everyone is focused on the who and not the why of the situation. At some point we might find out who they were, but the why they are here is going to be the big surprise, or at least I hope.

I've given up looking for resolution of the details, as it will probably never come. At this point, I'm just looking for a great wrap up so the last few years won't be in couch potatoe vain! LOL

If saw the preview for next episode at the end, Desmond is still alive when Sayid visits the well.

If the kid is Jacob "reincarnating/regenerating" then wouldn't the MiB be in a rush and have more of a sense of urgency? I think it's more to do with that if the MiB fails in getting off the Island and dies, he'll be stuck in this Island as a kid forever just like Jacob and therein lies the taunting.
