My girlfriend came up with a good thought about this show last night. We don't know any of the actors (with the exception of the LOTR character, who is so drastically different that it doesn't matter...).
There's also Matthew Fox, whom many people know as Charlie from Party of Five. It was very confusing to me, since there was another Charlie (the LOTR guy whose name I don't want to spell). I kept calling Jack Charlie instead.

And Locke is from Alias.

But others, to me at least, aren't as well known.

Locke

Locke was also on Millennium.

Why doesn't anyone remember that show? It was great.

My roommate pointed out that the 'French chick' (as Hurley puts it) is an actress who was on Babylon 5. She was the ambasador alien... can't remember what he said her name was on that show though.

She was watching a morning show with the actors (who are still on the island...) and shut it off because she didn't want to have any connection to them.

LOST is not at all like watching Friends, there is no celebrity guest star like Bruce Willis that you can say "I remember him in Die Hard..." I don't know if that makes it more interesting to anyone else here, but it sure does to us.

And last night's episode was very good, the numbers are intriguing!

Rousseau, the french chick was Ambassador D'lenn on Babylon 5.

What happens now, and in any season to come? Part of the fun of this show is gradually learning the histories of the characters, but this gimmic is mostly used up. Sure, we could learn MORE about each character, but that's not as great as the initial surprises.

So how do they keep it up? Another plane crash or shipwreck, to add newbies to the castaway group? The discovery of other people already on the island? I doubt we'd want to spend the rest of the series learning the backstories of polar bears and wild boars.

Good questions. Perhaps they leverage Hurley's "bond" with the French lady to begin to work together to find a way off of the island.

You know at some point, they're going to crack that hatch open and find their way into the "belly" of the island to find Jeff Probst in there laughing his ass off. Then they'll kill him.

Delenn, actually. And the actress who plays her, Mira Furlan, is Croatian. She and her husband left Croatia in the early 90s to escape all of the violence there.

one of the companies Hurley bought after winning the lottery was a box company in Tustin. Locke used to work for a box company.
Maybe this is also a connection to The Simpsons episode where Bart's class tours a box factory. ;)

You know what this thread is about! Don't read it until you watch the episode! ;)

I feel sorry for the poor schmucks like me with kids that TiVo shows and don't watch them for days (except for tonight - I watched this one just now)! Loved it - nice to get some background on Hurley.

Yeah, it takes me a couple of days before I can watch them, so I'm always careful not to look in this thread until I've seen the episode. The downside of this is that people have already presented their ideas so I sometimes can't really take part in the conversation :(

As long as they're not the same ideas, we'd be happy to hear them!

I just learned that an actor who had parts on Lost and Alias is somebody I've talked to in real life a couple of times: Byron Chung. I'll have to watch for him around town since we both live in the same part of Los Angeles. But I doubt he can tell me any secrets about the plots, since its doubtful that even the main actors know much ahead of time.

Grrr...... why are we getting reruns already??? they're messing us all up! Lost is a plot-based show.... you can't just throw in reruns like you could in Friends or Seinfeld! AHHH!!!

(P.s. don't bother watching next week either, it's the hookup/briefcase one)

Apparently we're stuck until April 13th without any new Lost episodes, which sucks. But with only a handful of episodes left, and the revealment of the cursed numbers enscribed on the hatch, and the next episode titled, Duex Ex Machina and supposedly being another Locke-centric episode, we just might see the hatch get opened, and should be worth the wait.

On a side note, the only thing I've been wondering all along about this series is, is it just intended to be a 1 season show, or will it span over multiple seasons, meaning will every question be answered in May, or will some questions be answered but many more questions will be raised that will keep us wondering till the next Fall.

End of the season, they all die or go crazy like that french lady. Then in season 2, new survivors from another plane crash go about finding new clues.

the story is one of the main characters will die at the end of the season.

btw, found this at another site:

edit: it's kinda hard to see but if you mapquest the numbers as long/latitude you get a location that fits in with the story...which further makes sense because the original people on the island broadcast this group of numbers to be rescued( before the french lady changed the recording ).

edit 2: so i tried mapquest on my own and you can't put in 1623.42 longitude...so this map is baloney...BUT if you put in 162.342, you get a similar location off of the australian coast and about 180km from micronesia

u]Lost for Six Years![/u]

Lost will be on the air at least for six years, according J.J. Abrams and Damon Lindelof, if the show can make it till then based on the ratings, see the link below. More Info

I hope we don't have to wait 6 years for the next NEW episode for this season. We have another repeat tonite, and I feel LOST without LOST. :(

Yeah, apparently April 13th is the next new episode :(

I almost posted yesterday on this same thing, as I'm going through withdrawal. At least I have 24 to fall back on...

They are making a Lost Season 1 DVD box set (Amazon.com has it for pre-order). I'm thinking about buying it. But Lost is one of those shows where you can watch the whole thing through once and if you're gonna watch it at all, you need to watch all of the episodes at a time.

I saw the first 8 episodes back to back in a matter of 2 days and it was really addicting, since you wanted to know what happened. But lately, with the re-runs, I am slowly losing interest in the show. They should bunch up the shows and make it into a 12-hour miniseries. That's basically what it is. They just happen to re-purpose it as a weekly serial, which it is not.
