I'm contemplating taking Lost off my Tivo list for this season. It appears that episodes air sporadically (which Tivo takes care of) but it's still rather odd to watch an episode one week, then not watch another episode for 2 or 3 weeks. I ended up missing one episode altogether because some sports game ran long and my TV station decided to air it at 1:15am (the Tivo only updates its listing once a day)... since it's coming out on DVD and in widescreen it might be worth picking up then or even putting on the ol' Christmas list...

Hmmm... looks like the disease so feared by Rousseau may be getting ready to start affecting people... Sawyer and Locke both showing signs of illness/problems in the next episode?

I'm losing my memory (time to buy more brain-ram). Who is the lady whose husband supposedly died in the plane crash but she didn't believe he was gone? She sat on the beach by herself. What's her name? Did we learn more about her story?

Rose. And she hasn't had a backstory yet, and probably won't since she's not a "main" character. She believes that her husband is still alive, since there is no actual evidence that he's dead.

a main male character dies before the end of season one.

I wonder who it would be? I would be sad if Locke died, because he seems to know so much stuff essential for survival. Wonder if it could be Charlie - he's a main character, we've learned a lot about his past, but he doesn't seem to be very.. compelling on the island. Someone else - I forget who - posted that they were finding him to be rather boring, and I agree. Whoever it is, I bet they won't let us know right away, and leave it as a cliffhanger for next season. How I hate those cliffhangers!

Thanks!

Is she unique in being a minor character whose name we know?
Pretty much, yeah, aside from Ethan and Rousseau.

And tonight's episode... WOW, really good. More discussion to come after midnight EST (cuttin' folks on the Left Coast some slack here).

probably not, we learned the names of a few characters through Hurley's list of people. For instance, the man who had glasses, we learned his name. I just forget it.

And tonight's episode was awesome! But I'll hold of on comments until all time zones get to watch it.

Left coaster here. I loved it tonite. Good twists and turns, and I don't just mean Locke's legs. Sawyer's medical interview was hilarious.

Looks like Boone will need surgery. They don't have much in the way of anesthetics, but now they have a planeload of drugs that might help, if Charlie doesn't grab the stash first.

I hate it when they leave us hanging with that light at the end. Damn producers!

think Locke will offer up some of that heroin for the op? or some of the plant gunk stuff?

great episode, but i wish they'd have made it a 2 hour one after making us wait so long for it!

so i reckon the island definitely has the power over Locke, he gets close to the plane, with a radio etc, and his legs get worse the closer he gets to the plane.

oh, and the main character killed off? gotta be Boone no? how many episodes left?

Locke might give up the heroin for pain killer. Plant gunk stuff would probably be bad.

His legs didn't get worse as he got closer to the plane. His legs were worse when he tried to break in and thought of his Father. That incident is probably what really made Locke Locke. (Insert gratuitous state of nature comment)

It could be Boone who dies. Could be Charlie finds the Heroin and OD's. It could be whoever is in the hatch kills Locke.

Maybe I missed it but... did we find out why Locke's legs weren't working before the plane crashed? The last thing I remember about his back story is him punching his rear view mirror. But it's completely possible I feel asleep for a bit without realizing it... :D  :(

Last nights episode was probably the best episode so far. It had suspense... (the light), it had drama... (the whole Dad/kidney scenes), it had comedy... (Sawyer's headache/interrogation). Which episode did you think was the best and worst?

What??? Nobody has mentioned this yet?

It was a great episode! I watched it twice last night because I was sidelined by a phone call in the middle of the first viewing. Anyway there's one important piece you guys haven't mentioned yet... Boone made a Maday call on the other plane's radio he said something like "...I'm a survivor of Oceanic flight 815", better yet (although it was garbled) he got a response back! I didn't hear it clearly the first time but paid attention to it the second time and you can make out that the responder says "Oceanic 815" back to Boone! In a "real" survivor situation this would be the 2nd best news you could possibly get they know you're still alive ... hopefully this means that they would start looking for you again. (The best news being that they know where you are and are coming to rescue you. ;) )

<edit> By the way I could have been wrong about the call numbers, but that's what I remember from the show. Now if we go back to the magic numbers you'll see a relation! 4 8 15 16 23 42</edit>

As for Locke's story, they still havent explained his wheelchair (and how he got in it) I was half expecting a car crash after he left his fathers. As for the heroin, I'm sure it's there to tempt Charile into picking up the habit again... maybe the death on the island will be an o.d.???

I was thinking (throughout the episode)...

He's gonna get hit with a car running around the parking lot! (nope)
He's gonna get shot in a hunting accident! (nope)
The doctors are gonna hit his spinal cord during surgery! (nope)
He's gonna be mad and crash his car! (nope)

Then I dozed off...

Actually, the guy Boone spoke to on the radio said that there were NO survivors of Oceanic 815... which means a couple of things:

1. This confirms that no one is looking for them.
2. Since Boone dropped off the radio so quickly, whoever he spoke to probably thinks he got a crank on the radio, so there won't be a follow-up investigation.

Also, the 8 and 15 showed up in Locke's store... regulation footballs were on aisle 8, Nerf footballs on aisle 15.

And I second the suggestion of hysterical paraplegia.

I noticed Locke had some blood on the back of his shirt when he got out of his car to talk to Eddy (or Eddie) after the surgery. He sure got out in a hurry. Probably something minor though.

I noticed the whole theme of the episode was deception and entrapment. We start off with Locke showing that kid how to play Mouse Trap. Then the whole story of how Locke's dad set up that whole trap to get his kidney. Again, something minor.

I was expecting Jack to be the one to die this season, but if Boone doesn't make it, there goes my hypothesis. Why kill off Jack? Just because he's pretty much the leader and healer/doc. Good way to put the group in disarray for Season 2.

Yes, I assume from where they removed his kidney?

my girlfriend and i were rewinding trying to figure out what the reply to Boone's mayday distress call, but Locke was talking over it. interesting to hear you say that the reply was NO survivors. also interesting is the 8 15 numbers cropping up in more than one place...

i love this show, definitely a dvd purchase to see find all the clues etc afterwards....

A helpful hint: Watch the show with your closed captioning turned ON. Even though my hearing's perfect, I've learned to listen AND read the captions for all of my favorite shows... it's better than just listening. :)
