So Ben was lying all the way up to the end? because they get off the island.

And it looks like Locke was right about staying on the island because future jack is anxious to get back there.

I think that's why Ben wasn't lying. Being on the island did something to them and so leaving the island is going to kill everyone that was on it (either by having them go crazy or that you could live forever on the island). That's why Juliet couldn't leave and Ben wouldn't let anyone else go.

That and how does Jack still have a prescription from his dad?
I agree that they've left it ambiguous enough for us to believe that Christian (Jack's dad) was still alive in the "flash-forward" sequences. But right now my hunch is that when Jack told the Chief of Surgery to "go find his dad" to see what a real drunk looks like, Jack was just confused and remembering how Christian got before his death. And Jack doesn't have a prescription from his Dad -- he has his dead father's prescription pad, and he has forged a prescription.

What did Jack do to her anyway? She wouldn't drive home a drunk man?
I think we can read between the lines that this isn't the first time since Jack's return from the island that Sarah has had to deal with drunk, drugged-up Jack. This was just the last straw for her.

And the airline gave Jack a golden ticket good to fly any where, anytime because they never crashed?
Bingo. mstaree's theory (that once they left the island they were transported back to a time before the crash happened) is kinda neat and wouldn't be out of place for "Lost". But the fact that Oceanic Airlines gave them "golden passes" indicates that the plane crash happened at some point prior to the scenes that we were seeing. They were definitely taking place in the "future".

The fact that [Charlie] could have tried to swim out the portal or that he could have just as easily closed the door from the outside and he only would have had to fight off Desmond briefly before Mikhail blew the grenade seems to be lost.
Not lost on me. Of all the stuff that happened during the finale, this is the thing that is still bugging me. As I and others have speculated in previous posts, the only thing I can figure is that Charlie believed that he had to drown to "complete" Desmond's vision and get Claire and Aaron rescued; that if he "cheated" at that point, that it would somehow jinx the rest of the deal.

Obviously, Charlie did not try to swim out the portal because his contract was not renewed for next season.

While I agree with you that Charlie didn't swim out, they can hide contract renewals from the public to help keep story lines secret.

i agree that charlie's was a conscious choice in order to fulfill what he saw as his destiny and duty.
An inconsistency with the situation is that the room he was in would not and COULD not have filled with water. A large bubble of air would have remained in the upper half of the room, as the room was clearly water and air tight. So he wouldn't have drowned and would have had time to explain everything nicely to Des.

anyway, good season finale.
I also think that the coffin was smallish.
i can't decide about the "call my dad" situation. i supposed it was (brilliantly) left ambiguous on purpose. I think a 'parallel universe' kind of situation cannot be ruled out, but i am for the linear 'future' scenario.

i think rose is in the coffin. jack feels responsible due to rose's cancer coming back after leaving the island. i think that it could also be locke, but i don't see why locke would leave the island. that is if locke was forced to leave the island, and he found himself in a wheelchair again. that would explain why no one showed up at the funeral. since locke kind of went a little bit crazy. however, did you see when locke woke up in the ditch that his eyes were green. what color were jack's eyes at the beginning of the show when he woke up. also what color were locke's eyes when he woke up during the beginning of the season?

I think it's been established that the paper clippings said "He," so I honestly don't think it was Rose. If it was her I think there'd have been people at the funeral. I do think it was either locke or ben.

Who was Jack leaving a voicemail for on the bridge right before he was planning to jump? I need to go re-watch that part. Originally I assumed it was his ex-wife, but now I think it was probably someone from the island (like Kate?).

I noticed the cell phone early on and thought they f'ed up the props until the scene where he was at home and it looked like there were a bunch of maps and charts around. Then it hit me - I think this is a flash-forward!

I think the comment about his father was just him being all doped up and going through some withdrawls a little bit (he had just stolen a bunch more pills moments before and took one after being out for a while). As someone else said, I'm sure he just stole one of his Dad's Rx pads and wrote himself a script. I think his Dad is still dead.

As for the coffin, I think it was Ben. I don't think Kate would have responded to Jack in such a negative way if it was just anyone else who crashed with her. Even Jack said 'neither' when asked if he was friend or family. You'd think if your plane crashed on a south pacific island with someone and you survived together, you'd have at least enough of a bond to say you were a friend or ask to view the body. But it seemed like Jack & Kate both hated whoever that was...as did everyone else becuase not one person besides Jack showed up. Only Ben was hated that much by everyone around him.

I'm pretty sure it was Kate.

I thought that it was a RAZR...

Have been scanning the IMDb "Lost" message board and another good question was raised: Why isn't "future Kate" in prison? Is she on the run again?

And some clever person noticed that the name of the funeral home, "Hoffs-Drawlar", is an anagram for "Flash Forward".

Thats brilliant, with the anagram.

Perhaps Hanso Corp. or whoever rescued them pulled some strings to free Kate and in turn insure her silence? Perhaps? Or maybe we're suppose to forget Kate is a fugitive in the same sense we're suppose to forget there is a ravaging smoke monster loose on the island whenever the Losties go tramping through the jungle.

What about it didn't you like?

All of it.

Every aspect of it.

Patchy? Lives through a speargun to the heart.
Penny? Just happens to be on the radio trying to get to Desmond.
Locke? Just happens to live through a gunshot wound to the gut.
Locke? Just happens to find everyone at the radio tower.
Hurly? Just manages to get the VeeDub from where it crashed and drive it to the beach.
Walt? Ghostly Walt manifests magically.
Jack? Just happens to be ready to kill himself because of something he saw in a paper about someone's funural who he went to and no one else showed up. Does LOST need anymore questions? I think not.
And finally, because I'm tired of thinking about all the lameness of this episode...

So everyone goes home. Why should I keep watching? They all got off the island. What Ben said was untrue. Everyone didn't die, because they clearly got off the island.

So... after 3 seasons, why should I now care since I know they get off the island, cue music.

Obviously (or not) some of them are coming off the island in caskets and that makes Jack not so happy (and addicted to painkillers, but as House will tell you that just makes you a better doctor)

You talk tough now, but I'll bet you a shiny new quarter that you tune in next season to see what happens. ;)

You'd win that bet.. but I won't be happy about it. Those ****ers better WOW my pants off right from the get go and gimmie some sort of it was a dream in the shower bull****.

We have no proof of that at all.

All we know is that Jake and Kate made it off, as well as a 3rd person (who recently died).

I guess you're a pessimist in assuming that everyone else is dead.

I am more the optimist and assume that everyone is hunky dory.

Here's what we don't know:
a) We don't know that everyone got off the island. After the episode ended, they're all still there.

b) We don't know when they got off the island. Just because they managed to get in touch with SOMEONE doesn't mean that person showed up immediately. Plus, there's no guarantee that someone has/had anything to do with Naomi. It wouldn't surprise me if someone intercepted the communication somehow....and even if someone didn't, who's to say the person on the other end is good?

As per the whole "Not Penny's Boat" business, Naomi is someone not to be trusted, which means the fact that they got in touch with someone who might be her superior could be a hugely bad thing....

But why should I care? This damn show has dragged on long enough. Let's get some REAL resolution going!

I hate convenient plot devices.

Please, stop with the mystery! It's more than mysterious enough already!!!! Dispense with the fund milking of advertisers and wrap this crap up already.

<sigh>

As for the comment Jack made about his Dad, it has always been my suspicion that Jack's dad is not dead. I'll tell you why.

1) Jack has never seen his dad's dead body - there was no funeral yet.
2) When he went looking for his dad in the White Rabbit episode, he found the casket only to be suprised by the fact that it was empty.
3) Nearly all of the backstories involve Jack's dad which makes it seem that a lot of this was orchistrated in some way.

This of course is all speculation. But think of how stories are told. Whenever someone dies in a movie or a show, the audience sees it. We have not seen Jack's dad die, or his dead body. And in a show full of lies and conspiracies, I would not put it past Lost to have Jack's dad somehow behind this.

P-Worm

They're gettin' there :) 48 episodes, and counting. I'd expect to start seeing some resolutions start next season.

Just because the communications jamming has been disabled doesn't mean that the electromagnetic anamoly that brought down the helicopter is not still in place. Knowing where someone is located isn't worth a pair of fetid dingo's kidneys if you can't get a rescue vessel to them.

And as for them not answer questions directly, a line about secrets from The Prestige comes to mind. "Never show anyone. They'll beg you and they'll flatter you for the secret, but as soon as you give it up... you'll be nothing to them." It's true here too, it's way more fun to watch and speculate on what the secret is than to know the answer. It ruins part of the show now that we know that at least some of them get off the island, but the remaining questions are enough to provide conversation and keep the show exciting.

Yes he has. He saw him dead on the medical examiner's table in 'Straya.

Of course, the magical island might ahve brought him back to life for later plot devices.
