Good, I thought it was just me.. I keep telling my wife that there is more there than we know.. I thought they were going to reveal it last week (that Jin speaks english) but it all turned out to be a dream.

oh, and yeah, a "so-so" episode.

hah, just realised my sig, such a shame it's not another cryptic Lost reference.

I imagine that when you're sailing on a raft, or when you're sitting in a pit, you might try teaching each other your language whe the story isn't focused on you constantly. I'm not at all surprised that Jin is picking up more English... they've been on the island what, 50 or so days now?

Sorry, I wasn't being clear.. I realize that he should learn more English as they spend time together. I just mean that there's been a HUGE leap between even this episode and last episode. I mean, Jin pretty much understood everything that Echo was saying to him. Where on the raft 4 days earlier, he got a list of common nautical English phrases translated to Korean from his wife as a crash course in English.

I like this episode.

The backstory of Sun and Jin was very interesting. I like how they portray Jin's character in the back story; makes you understand him better. He was portrayed as a real douchebag in the previous episodes, so much so I wanted to strangle him.

Any thoughts about revealing what happened to the pregnant girl after her mysterious abduction? That missing plot point might be explosive when revealed.. ohh.. :p

This episode suffers from 3 problems.

1. It's a US TV show, our citizens watch TV so they don't have to read! What's with all the subtitles? (I'm only half kidding here)

2. We don't know of the connections between everyone else and the Kwons, mostly due to #3.

3. The Kwons hang in the background for most episodes and don't seem as involved with the other crash survivors (Every episode has to hit Jack, Locke, Kate, Sawer, Michael, and Hurley at minimum then comes Sayid, and Charlie. The Kwons, Shannon, and Claire are not played up as main characters much, and Rose is even further down).

Uh, I liked this episode alot too.

The back-story on Jin was great... it showed him as principled and... nice. Before everything got screwed up by Sun's father.

Yes, Sun finding her ring where she buried the message bottle was predictable... but what more do you want? Locke to come up to Sun and say "Oh, hey... I found this while walking out in miles and miles of dense jungle foliage!". Just because it's predictable doesn't make a bad plot device... ever think that it's "predictable" because it's the only outcome that makes sense? Never mind the symbolic meaning behind her finding it with the message bottle (eg. burying it and accepting that he's dead, versus finding or re-finding her hope?).

I also liked especially the sequence with the Others' legs because it reminded me almost immediately about the Lost Boys in Peter Pan (particularly the Other carrying the teddy bear)... though in a totally skewed way from the original.

I also thought seeing those Others walking took something away from their "other-wordly" aura... I mean, first we have Ethan (presumably an Other) with superhuman strength... then Mr. Eko (?), Adewale's character, talking about how they don't leave tracks... seeing them walking, it almost seemed to me like they had learned/adapted how to walk without leaving tracks, rather than some sort of mystical quality about them.

funny you should mention peter pan...

about 2 weeks ago i was reading peter pan to my daughter and noticed the picture of the island inside the back cover. the old schooner, the underground room, the smoke signals...all those things were very reminiscent of Lost. I also found the story line about the clock inside the crocodile similar to the clock that has to be reset inside the hatch...as long as it ticks, capt. hook feels safe because he knows where the croc is. I believe he says something to the effect of "fearing when the clock stops because then he will die".

of course, i guess the comparisons are easy to make...you can see what you want to see. but still...

Where are you people getting that Ethan had 'super human' strength? Sure he beat up Jack the first time, but that could be because he's more adapt to the surroundings and such.

I also agree that her finding the ring near the burried bottle was predictable, but I didn't mind it. That's how that type of thing is in real life too - Hasn't anyone lost something and looked all over for it, only to realize that it's been in an obvious place all along? You find it and say "that was obvious - why didn't I check there first?"

When they were fighting, Ethan at one point choked Jack by picking him up by the neck, with his feet noticeably dangling in the air.

Ethan didn't "look" particularly more buff than Jack, so lifting a person of similar weight/build off of the ground and choking them, while they're struggling to free themselves and fight back... you'd have to be pretty darn strong and not just more adapted to the environment.

EDIT: If I remember the sequence correctly... it's been awhile since I saw the first season DVD's. ;)

Adrenaline? The second time they got into a scuffle Jack handed it to him.

He was able to make off with both Claire and Charlie on his own, and somehow managed to hang him off a tree branch while making sure Claire didn't escape.

He beat the sh*t out of Jack without breaking into a sweat. No matter how much adrenaline you have, you won't be able to pick someone your own size up by the neck.

Jack took him by surprise the second time, but even given that, when I watched that episode, I was asking myself how Jack was able to match him. Just a flaw in the story as far as I'm concerned.

Winning a fight in of itself isn't entirely based off of strength. The first time, Ethan had the jump on Jack.. the second time, it was reversed. I'm talking just about the brute strength it takes to lift someone like that... you have to remember also that the first fight took place after both had been running through the jungle overnight. AND Ethan was also dragging/carrying/coercing Charlie and Claire with him (and if I remember correctly, he strung Charlie up to hang him).

I'm still voting for super-strength here (or at least augmented strength).

LOST = Neverland?

Clues
1. They (others?) don't leave tracks = They fly like the Lost Boys
2. The others happen to be kids = like the Lost Boys
3. The others (from the raft incident) are Pirates who hate and take kids.
4. They live on an island like Neverland that is magical and off the map, where Oceanic flight 815 has seemed to be, lost.
5. The others hate adults by the obvious fear of the passengers of flight 815's back (dead body found)
6. Walt appears to be important and has gifts due to his mind power and imagination like the Lost Boys and children in Neverland.
7. ABC is owned by Disney

I dig it if true. I was one of the people okay with it all being purgatory, but a neverland rift is just as cool.

Character to die: Shannon
She is believed to bite the dust via Walt and Sayid in rumors.

does that mean that the zombies are from the Thriller video?

edit: in Brighton there is a Black Rock beach next to a Peter Pan's Playground...

There is a Black Rock somewhere in Maryland or Virginia also. O.A.R. wrote a song about it called Black Rock, and when I was down in the Virginia/ DC/ Maryland area I saw a sign for Black Rock off the highway. It may have been a road, I don't remember exactly.

But yah... new episode tomorrow night, yay!

In related Lost news, I was flipping threw channels and I just saw an ad for Live Links on Much Music starring Evangeline Lilly. I had heard about it before, but I assumed it was old. Guess not.

just watched the entire first season on dvd for the past 2 weeks. wow, what a rush. got about 5 more to watch till i'm competely caught up with season 2.
