Ana Lucia goes to jail...
Why didn't she simply beat off the cops and trap the judge in a pit? And, if that didn't work, give a really contemptuous sneer to anyone who came near her? I'm sure she could have escaped justice if she'd put her mind to it.

Michelle Rodriguiz has another hearing coming up for parole violation which could land her in the pokey for 18 months which would screw up the shooting schedule unless she gets some work release. Otherwise she will probably meet with a horrible accident.

looks like she's going to do a teeny bit of time:

Now that's funny.
I think her justification for that decision makes sense though-- imagine how much potential harrassment she might face if she was attempting to go out and do that community service?

And even if she did 8 hours a day, that's 30 days of service, which is quite a bit more than the 5 days in jail she'll face (120 hours). I'd probably do the service, but then again, I don't have a lot of people coming up to ask for my autograph.

As for community service (and I know this is wildly off-topic, but I was wondering) - are there certain things designated as "community service" that you pick from, or do you work with the courts to identify an appropriate activity?

I've been meaning to ask you something..

As for Lost's episode last night I took 2 things away from it. The voiceover guy stating specifically that they were crash landed "somewhere in the south pacific" (FWIW), and (more importantly, IMO) showing Desmond shooting up with the "sickness innoculation" (?).. but I don't remember anyone getting around to wondering what that is. Or mentioning it. And they've had plenty of time. And I consider it a rather important item.

Though one thing should be said of "the sickness".. if the island is so good at healing, what is "the sickness" all about? Previous injuries = sickness immunity? Or simply a writer's way of explaining away the difficulties in keeping the make-up consistant? And if the island can heal so well, could Boone have survived? Or Shannon?

Unless its specified by the court any work for a non profit would count. Often celebrities in similar situations do their community service by talking at schools and telling kids about the dangers of drunk driving and saying don't do drugs.

It does. I didn't mean funny as in she's an idiot, I meant funny as in she rocks.

Perhaps she should have taken the community service and gone to schools telling kids about the dangers of being a TV star, such as having everyone hear about every problem in your personal life.

I would guess there is some kind of selection going on - I seem to recall the Others talking about various lists and good people/bad people. Whether the sickness is part of this, I don't know.

While I was typing this, I though of something else (don't know if it has already been brought up - there are a lot of pages in this thread!). It seems like many of the major characters have killed someone or directly caused their death:

Jack - making the choice between his future wife and Boone and Shannon's father
Kate - killed her father (and plenty of others)
Hurley - caused a pontoon to collapse, killing several people
Ana Lucia - shot someone in one of her flashbacks
Sawyer - shot the guy he thought conned his family
Mr Eko - shot someone while he was a kid

and so on. I wonder if this is significant?

Maybe it picks who survives? I just think the thing about Locke being seemingly indestructible plays some sort of role. That smoke thing grabbed him but he didn't worry, maybe along with the wheelchair incident he knew that he was going to be ok?

It wasn't just a guy... it was the man who shot her when she was pregnant, killing her unborn child.

And Mr. Echo harmed many a person after that initial murder, as well.

I don't know, didn't he end up clawing at the dirt to keep from being sucked in?

Mr. Echo on the other hand, really was NOT taken by that same cloud thing. They faced off and then the cloud thing just turned away and left him there.

Thanks - couldn't remember the exact circumstances, but it's come back to me now.

You're right - the monster/cloud/smoke thing did try & drag Locke down the hole, but Jack lobbed some dynamite after it, to encourage it to let go.

Having said that, early on in series one, I remember it chasing Locke through the jungle, and it ended up with a shot from the monster's point of view, just looking closeup at Locke, followed by a cut to somewhere else on the island. I had always assumed that Locke got a good view of it then, and it didn't harm him.

Hmm.. on the subject of shooting.. how did Jack become such a crack shot, has that been explained yet?
Good point. I don't think they've mentioned the background for that... hmm...

I'm just bummed at the teaser where we see the Other 'not-Henry Gale' get the gun from Ana Lucia. He's such a creep. :shudder:

That's easy. He's a doctor, so he's given lots of shots!

To continue with "the sickness" vein, I came across this and found it slightly intriguing
(apologies if it's been linked already, this thread is hella long).

New observation: The girl that helped Claire escape from the Medical Facility... could that have been Alex, Rousseau's daughter?

I'm so happy, I've finally watched all of lost. I started on Monday and over the course of this week I have watched 45 episodes. This is an amazing show and I'm so mad that I didn't start earlier.

So how many episodes are left this season? I saw one of the writers interviewed on TV and he said that we would find out the reason for them all being there by the end of the second season.

Well, you're now officially hooked to two of the greatest tv shows on tv these days. Lost is really super. Enjoy :)
