I think the "coldies" were picking up the magnetic burst, not Desmond's (Libby's) boat's signal. It's pretty clear right?

So how did they know to look for a magnetic burst? Well, Desmond's girlfriend, who's rich and persistent, is funding the search for Desmond, so...

Obviously, Desmond's girlfriend's father has a hand in the island and the Dharma project. In fact, he rigged it so that Desmond would end up there, since he wanted to make sure Desmond never saw his daughter again. But Desmond's girlfriend found out about it and hired some dudes to investigate. We'll see lots more of Desmond's history to flush this out next season.

great stuff as usual, but I hate ABC for having such a long summer

personally I get the feeling that Michael is coming back. Here's why:
When Jack made him admit he had killed Libby and Anna-Lucia, Jack clearly said he had a plan and then they cut away. One could assume that he told them about Sayid and the boat since they were talking about the signal fire later. Therefore I believe Michael will want to morally redeem himself by using the Others' boat to join up with Sayid, Jin and the Sailboat and come back for Jack, Sawyer and Kate, possibly in the season opener.

My guess: The Coldies (in the plane) will pick up Michael and Walt and return them to the island, sans boat. I don't know why, but I'm sure the Lost audience wants to see Michael some more, not just in flashbacks, and in particular so Michael can get his proper comeuppance.

Other ways to get Michael back:
The boat heads in a straight line and ends up back at the island.

Michael or Walt gets sick or injured and they have to turn back.

I disagree. They told Michael to go 365 due west or something and he'd be rescued. My guess is there is a small margin of ocean where if you travel in that exact line at that degree of measure you can escape the magnetic feild that pulls you back to the island. That is why Desmond never made it out.

The beacon, magnectic field detected thing. I am thinking it was that the magnectic field was sort of broken, which showed on screen and that red light was the beacon. That is how they knew they found Desmond.

Didn't Lilly look just like Elizabeth, the woman who gave Desmond the boat?

Right... So you want to get rid of your daughter's fiance, so how do you go about doing that? Well you know that he has entered a race you are throwing (you know that because, duh, you have all the names of all the people who entered)... All you have to do is screw with his boat's compass. But how? Especially when he doesn't even HAVE a boat. Well lets give him one! We'll send our favorite Dharma spy, Libby!

Later on, we'll send Libby to the insane asylum where one of our ex button mashers is being held, to make sure he doesn't spill his guts.... .... oh wait! It looks like he MIGHT have spilled his guts to that big guy... lets follow him to make sure he doesn't know anything. Allll the way to austrailia!

yeah, and it says 22nd september. isn't that the date when the plane crashed according to desmond and locke's chat when they realise he messed up the day the plane crashed?

and another question - what on earth happened when henry missed the button pushing? why didn't the same happen then? did i miss something?

Here's a "secret" image I've haven't seen discussed:

The one at http://hole2.thehansofoundation.org/q9als2002.gif is perhaps more interesting. Might the little marks in the upper corners be a message in code?

He didn't push it. That was pretty much stated by the way he said nothing happened and then gave the camera an evil grin. The evil grins never lie.

Does all of England get the same basic channels? What about local news?

This was a while ago I know, and I'm just reading from where I left off. But yea, we have local news too. Split up into a few regions, north-west, south-east, midlands, etc. Along with national too. It's all mixed up for a lovely mix fest. sorry if this has already been answered.

Anywho. I liked the snow-brothers bit. It put an end to all these theories about it hell/purgatory/new world etc. It's on earth. Which makes the big final answer to this whole thing that tad bit better. I reckon

and the fact that when it all went off, he was still crawling through the ducting...

This is what confuses me.. if something *bad* happens when the button isn't pushed, why would Henry play jedi mind game with Locke to get him to NOT push it?

Henry has no reason to believe that Desmond is around, or that he has the special key or knows what to do with it.. so we can only assume Henry wanted them to not push the button.

Anyone make sense of this?

If you are talking about Hurleys girlfriend that got killed (Her name was Libby, not Lilly), it was, or at least that is the way it appeared to me. Elizabeth=Libby

aye, one of my cousins is called Elizabeth, when we were both kids she used to call herself "Liddy". ... Liddy?!

The Others are trapped on the island somehow. They have the one boat and gave it to Michael with instructions on how to be "rescued" but I thought the wording here was vague enough that we will see that "rescue" isn't what Michael thought it would be.

The guy in the hatch with Desmond called the others, "hostiles." I think that means that they are outside of the Dharma project and working against it somehow. Henry wanted the button to not get pushed so that it would disrupt the plans of the people behind the project. Hence his comment that they are the "good guys" in this whole thing. The Dharma project probably doesn't want to help the Others because they would expose the project.

The screen clearly showed "magnetic anomaly detected" so I don't think it was the beacon, but the magnetic disturbance that occurred after not pushing the button.

The others were unconcerned that the boat would be leaving. Therefore, I'd guess that one of these must be the case:

* They know Michael will return.

* They have plenty of other transportation if and when they need it.

* They have no interest in leaving the island.

I'm guessing the "Others" use to be part of Dharma but rebelled. Probably didn't want to be lab rats anymore.

Thats what I think...found it weird when Henry said "we are the good guys" to Michael before letting him go.....

Really made me wonder what is going on, anyhow it was an amazing season finale and sets up for a terrific season 3,

SHadOW

I love this show as much as everyone else here, but when are they going to explain the monsters in the jungle?? We've been waiting since season 1!

They've been on the island for over a month so....

Here's a better question... When are Jack and Locke's hair going to start growing out?

Jack maybe, but you'd think Locke went bald naturally and won't grow any hair back. Unless the island cured his baldness too

This is important stuff!

If that were the case what would be the harm in letting the new cast aways in on the secret?
More members to rebell. build an army...
Also why the experiments on the pregnants? Taking the kids away? killing some members?
