So I take my brand new shiny 3GS in because of a few things that were concerning me. I try my best to keep my products in pristine condition. My phone immediately went into a case when I got it yesterday and didn't even have a fingerprint on it.

Anyway, I get to the store and take the case off because I was expecting to have it swapped. Long story short, I ended up keeping it. The best part was when this 'genius' had my unprotected phone in her hands while shuffling through her keys (which were clanking against it) to get her sim card removal tool. After that, she put it on the table and proceeded to slide it around, trying to get the compass to work properly. REALLY? Now I have two very short hairline scratches going through the Apple logo, and who knows what else. I haven't even looked at it.

When she was finally done, she said "yeah, I don't see anything wrong with it. If you're still having problems bring it back." If it's worse than I think it is, I definitely will be taking it back.

Am I too crazy, or is this just absurd? I was going to say something but I figured I'd save it and just take the phone back if she scratched it up more than I think she did. I just thought these people would have a little more respect for someone else's brand new $300 phone.

I agree with you completely. When the AT&T employee tore off the plastic covering of my 3G S and slid in on the table, bare, during activation, I cringed. That's just the way I am. For an older, "broken in" product, I don't mind, but a brand new iPhone? No.

yeah it drives me crazy just when they place it on the table

honestly i would have said something for sure if she did any of that to my phone

I would have looked her straight in the eyes and said "there may have been nothing wrong with the phone 5 minutes, but there sure is something wrong with it NOW!" I would not have left until they replaced my iPhone, and I would have started raising all hell.

Trust me, you could have walked out of there with a new phone.

Wow that sucks. My guy had mad respect for my warez at the Apple Store. All he did was open the box and unpeal the bottom of the included protector to plug in the USB cord.

You should definitely demand a replacement.

And, it can be harder to say something if the girl is pretty. Well, maybe it's just me. ;)

LOL.

It is so funny you posted this. I was stressing out that they were going to activate it in store because of this same reason. I know that they dont give a crap when they activate them, and they will just put it on the counter with no case on or anything and really not care.

Needless to say, I was glad when they told me they did not have to open it up in store :D

Yea i took my USB cable in because each end of the cable's insulation came of and you can see the wire inside. So the "genius" took it and was like yea it doesnt affect the way it charges as he is bending the crap out of the end of it and pulling it. I was like wtf, your making it worse!

i came pre paired after last years 3G experiance.. i brought a magazine and told the guy to set my iphone on it LOL

I understand why your angry but it's going to get little scratches on it regardless of how you handle it or which case you use for it

Cheers.

The girl at the register in the local ATT store was resting her elbow on the screen of the iPhone (which was in the box opened face up). She used it like an elbowrest while typing. At the same time she was working on the register she was texting on HER iPhone still using "mine" as an armrest. Twice I asked her to remove her arm and twice she said "ooops" then put it back 1 minute later. In the end she wasn't able to activate my account so I just told her to fugetaboutit and left because I had an appointment and it already had been almost 1hr. They had plenty in stock so I'll just go back next week.

You are my hero!

It would remain mint if I keep it in a case and maintain it, which I planned on doing. I kept my 3G naked all year and there are hairlines all over it.

I doubt it. Scratches are costmetic and not covered by the warrantee and I consider what the OP described is normal wear and tear. With that said, it never hurts to ask.

He could have. That's like a mechanic scratching your car. They are responsible.

Benefit of ordering it online! :D

IT'S JUST A PHONE

It will be obsolete this time next year.

Who cares if it will be obsolete.

We are paying hundreds of dollars for a device to do what we want with it and be responsible for it, not have some douche worker scratch it and bang it up.

And @ that pic: I would be so pissed I would have asked for a new one. I know you could get one

Wow, that is just unacceptable!

Yeah but until then, I'd like to keep it nice. Plus it will hold more value if it's mint.

Now, maybe I'm obsessing, but should I have to live with scratches I didn't cause myself? If I had scratched it I wouldn't care.

Am I overreacting? Here's a pic:

Hahahaha! That sucks. But just put the case back on it like you say you do and it wont matter.

I ordered mine online. Nobody had touched it until this. That's why it's really getting to me!

I don't see why. I'm careful with my 3G and it hasn't got any scratches.

I had a Genius handling my phone the other day and I'm very pleased to say he was super careful. When he had finished with it, he set it down very carefully on its sock.
