Who cares if it will be obsolete.

We are paying hundreds of dollars for a device to do what we want with it and be responsible for it, not have some douche worker scratch it and bang it up.

And @ that pic: I would be so pissed I would have asked for a new one. I know you could get one

Who knows what they will do with the next one, might end up being worse. Exchanging it won't be a problem.

Sorry about that OP, they really should take some consideration into handling other peoples products, regardless what they are.

Exactly. If I worked there I'd have a little microfiber on the table just to avoid situations like this.

Yeah but until then, I'd like to keep it nice. Plus it will hold more value if it's mint.

Now, maybe I'm obsessing, but should I have to live with scratches I didn't cause myself? If I had scratched it I wouldn't care.

Am I overreacting? Here's a pic:

well sadly at this point you cant prove they did it

so you may have to live with it

Care to elaborate on "a few things that were concerning me"?

Here's my previous thread: https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/727422/

The sim tray thing seems to be common, as there were others in the store the same way. The speaker still crackles, I'm still not sure if it's because Apple is pushing it beyond its limits or not. The compass isn't working 90% of the time, but I think that's due to "interference." Not sure if it's just my phone or not. She compared it to hers and they were both showing something completely different. Other than that the screen is great and the buttons feel good so I figured I'd keep it before ending up with something worse. I think now I'm going to exchange it though.

At the Apple store I went to, the only thing that happened was when the first box was brought to me, one edge of the box was smashed. He asked if I wanted another and I said "yes, please". He brought it back, did his digitsl work on his device, took me to the "checkout" guy who had ME open the box and place it in the cradle to activate it. He had me take it out and put it back in the box, and out the door. I was the only person who touched my iPhone and it's remained perfect! :)

Take it back and get another one.

When I picked up my iPhone, I told the rep that my iPhone is going to be a gift so dont bother opening it and just activate it via the IMEI located on the box.

The speaker crackle is not normal and the sim tray should not be like that. I'd definitely demand an exchange, if anything just the speaker crackle should warrant one.

lmfao. I'm sorry but you are SO overreacting. I used to work at a genius bar and i can just picture what you're talking about. You need to realize that those MINOR MINOR scratches on the back of the phone are inevitable, and seriously... almost invisible. Also, I guess it makes sense to freak if you see keys hitting the screen, but nothing can scratch an iphone screen other than glass or diamonds. Obviously if you tried you could scratch it with keys, but you would have to REALLY try haha. But really, this stuff is so small... don't stress over it so much, you still have amazing hardware and software at the end of the day.

I see why you USED to work at the genius bar.

Some people really care about the stuff they spend hundreds of dollars on, and just because you personally cannot keep your stuff in mint condition doesn't mean others can't. Scratches are not "inevitable".

that apple logo on the back scratches just by looking at it. I don't care if you had it in a case for it's whole life you would get little scratches there.

She made a test phone call and said "sounds good to me." I guess I just wasn't in the mood and was disgusted at the whole situation that I just wanted to leave. I think I'm going to take it back for the crackle because it isn't pleasant at all. I just wanted to make sure it wasn't coming from certain people's calls.

I don't care about the screen. I know it doesn't scratch easily. I've purposely keyed my screen to prove it to people. It just wasn't nice to see her slide my new phone around the table and scratch it up. It was kind of disrespectful to be honest. Like I said, if I drop or scratch my phone myself, tough luck, but why live with her scratches? I even have a case on the phone to prevent scratches, and I can't stand using cases...which is why it's just an Incipio Feather. lol

Last year when I got the 3G it's first minute out of the box was spent in a guys hand trying to jab a paperclip into the sim port because he didn't know about the sim tool. After that, it was slid around on the glass counter.

This year I was helped by the nicest of guys. Spent 40 mins on hold speaking with the DIG(Dealer Investigative Group) and ended up having to do the upgrade the old way on paper. Told me I could leave the store with the box unopened if I'd like but I couldn't help but take it out and get a glimpse of that classy white. Everyone at this Futureshop was really into phones and knew what they were talking about. While he was on hold the other guys came over to talk about the 3GS. Finally, some people who know their phones.

I have an old 3G that was put in a case almost immediately with a flawless Apple logo. If you take care of your stuff it can stay mint.

I have a gen 1 16gb and it is mint, no so much as a hairline scratch anywhere.

In fact, barely touched by human hands. My father taught me to take care of and care for my stuff.

Take the iPhone back, and don't even give it a second thought.

I have nothing against people taking this as no big deal; however you all should have the same respect for those like OP who take this kind of stuff seriously.

My father thinks I'm crazy because of things like this. He sees me wiping my phone all the time and always teases me about it. I don't even put the phone against my ear when I'm on it. I think I got it from my mother.
