A $999 Apple Watch should give me something more than tougher casing and sapphire front?

If it’s the same as current Watches, then I’d just buy the cheapest Nike edition. If it somehow breaks out of warranty, I’ll just buy another one and still costs me less than a single $999 Watch?

To me, AW is a wrist computer disguised as a wristwatch. I’m paying for the silicon inside and the software features, so I’m not paying a dime more. Any fancy extras are irrelevant to me as it works the same no matter which cases you buy.

Why idiots for buying what they want? Are we idiots for getting an 100k car also.
At least a $100K car isn’t the same as $20K one? You get a bigger, more advanced engine, a much nicer interior and exterior finish? Better factory support and services? You get something more for paying more.

As for the Apple Watch, it’s all the same except for cases and front materials. Everything else is the same? Software updates, feature and obsolescence?
Remember the original 18K Gold Apple Watch? Cost $10K and Apple obsoleted it equally as the aluminum ones.

I have my AW4 since release, currently at 82% battery life.
so roughly a 5% battery decline each year.

I paid 400 USD for my watch so thats 100 bucks a year/8.33 dollar a month.

I do use my AW everyday to log all my bike rides, watch the weather conditions and a few other things.

When i still used to live in Hong Kong i even had LTE on it so i would use it without my iphone with me to call etc, love that i dont have to be connected to my phone and live more freely.

But if the AW hikes up to 900 bucks i wait another 1/2 year before making a upgrade plunge. Because i do think i easily can do 5 years with my AW 4.

Also this is a biggy, everytime apple releases a new form factor or a better display, that is the only big upgrade, and the rest is super super small incremental upgrade compared to the last model, you are ALWAYS better off wait the following release in this case the AW9 for a full performance/hardware overhaul that is much more bang for your bucks.

I got the SS series 0 originally

Now I have the base sport model S5. I’d pay for Saphire screen because this one is scratched and my original has none. But otherwise I’m not paying extra for metal cases and bands.

It won’t be the main seller for Apple. $1000 is too much. But still many would be buying. Would have liked to see a larger screen at slightly more than the current price of 45mm.

It’s not always subsidized. I think the last time I got any kind of benefit from my carrier was $200 off. What’s worse is they throw that into a payment scheme and give you the $200 in 24 monthly payments. So if you want to upgrade before those 24 months you lose whatever portion you haven’t received yet. I just buy my phone from Apple now. I don’t have to deal with carrier locked BS or any of that crap.
I don't disagree, but the carriers have been running the "iPhone on us" pretty much since the launch of the 13 (which makes it free). Yes, the credits are spread out over the course of 2 (or 3) years, but for most people, they keep their phones that long anyway. Verizon literally has been running $800 off since before Christmas. Compare that to the measly $150 off an apple watch, and you can see how price is less of an issue with phones than it is with watches.

They’re a bit more established and aren’t smart watches… their market is niche but stable.

The Apple Watch wants to be a fitness watch if these rumours are right, that is not the same market as these other watches.
Exactly I don't see why people aren't understanding this?!

Can’t wait to buy one and new iPhone. I have $2k waiting. After this it may be years before we can get products once global depression sets in. It isn’t the lack of money that is the issue, but no supply. Just like grandpa said of the Great Depression. “We had money, but there was nothing to buy.”

In fairness Apple have it pretty well figured how they can increase their profits. That’s what they’re after in the first place when expanding their product line.
Absolutely - I completely agree with that. My statement is really only that Apple is making close to $0 from the top watch buyers. Apple is even bringing new interest to the watch market and then losing those customers entirely when they get their hands on a Rolex.

I just think Apple has a gap in their product lineup for those customers. I'd like to have something like a health tracking bracelet that I could easily wear along with a watch.

I think the problem is that this is called a "Watch" and not a wrist computer or something like that. We are conditioned to keeping our watches for a very long time (I have several that I have had for 30 or 40 years) simply because they are single function devices and do not become obsolete, only needing maintenance (mechanical) or a battery (quartz/electronic).

I have a great deal of problem with buying a so called 'watch' that lasts for less than 4 years or so simply because the software cannot be installed or upgraded. This was the problem with the gold first series of the Apple Watch. If you could still use that Apple Watch now and could still use it in 20 years time, there would less of an issue, but it is almost useless now, so what do you do with a solid gold paperweight that only has the value of the gold in the case?

$1000 a year for an upgraded wrist computer does not sound as bad as a $1000 watch that will be out of date (and useless) in less than 5 years? I have the series 7 which is fine as a wrist computer but does not replace my Omega and Patek Phillippe watches which are appreciating in value and still function as well as they did on the day on which they were purchased (albeit just tell the time and date). Will I upgrade, probably not as Apple Watch functionality seems to have plateaued adding only small incremental benefits. However if they can make the thing last more than a couple of days at most, I would probably upgrade. But another larger, heavier, more expensive version of what I have and that lasts 36 hours or less will not make my upgrade criteria.

My first self winding, waterproof, dual time zone, stainless steel Rolex cost $375 in 1966. I still have it and it still works. Valued today at over $3,500.

Due to Apple's warranty of a couple of years on the iWatch, when the battery dies there will probably be no parts a few years out. With the S7, the case design changed slightly for the larger screen meaning the S6 and earlier will loose replacement parts availability earlier in the future.

At age 77, I am interested in the health monitoring and emergency features like auto call if I fall down and knock myself out. If I leave my iPhone at home by mistake, the iWatch can place and or receive a call.

My Rolex cannot do anything but display date and two time zones.

The iWatch S7 is my daily beater now and it displays 10 pieces of data all the time. when the screen is on. There is more info available from the other apps that are installed. I have continuous display turned off, so the casual observer does not know what generation my aluminum watch case is and I have had the same stainless steel watch bank for many years. The only differentiation was the "winding" knob had a solid color or color bands that differed over the years.

I see no benefit to acquiring the more exotic metals as I have replaced the watch annually since S2 and usually trade it in on. the new generation.

I also acquire the fully loaded top model iPhone every year since v4. My 13 Pro Max 1TB will go to my wife and her 12 goes to one of her 4 daughters and trickles down through the family. So the family has recent iPhones at the cost of one latest and greatest every year.

Will look at the larger iWatch this year as a possible choice.

You already have idiots who shell out $900+ for a phone so why not a watch too lmao

It may come as a shock, but some people make a lot of money where dropping $900 for a watch or phone isn’t a big deal for them.

I’ve had dinners that cost more than some people’s mortgages. It’s all relative, my friend. Apple is a premium brand that caters to more affluent customers.

It's not like $900 for a phone is particularly affluent either. That adds up to about $35/month with any of the large US carriers, but often winds up as much less with trade-in credits and promotions. When I re-upped with Verizon at the IP13 release they gave me stupid amounts of money for my old phones, I think like $1k for a 11 pro and $800 for a X, so my payments are somewhere around $11.

The AW seems like it's heading towards some high pricing, without carrier subsidies so that's a different story. Still, Apple wouldn't sell at those prices if it didn't make money. The only reason I might not pay that every year are because 1) The AW HR sensor is atrocious and 2) unlike mechanical watches AW's eventually become obsolete and devalue in price. I say that, but still purchased a Ti edition the year before last, and a SS AW7 this time around, for me every other year is the sweet spot as I can still get a bit less than half on the used sales market.

Bring in Glucose and other medical items and charging insurance companies 1k is nothing compared to what these insurance companies are paying for separate devices that are not being used.
If they add glucose, I will instantly be the Just Take My Money Man

There are some affluent people buying these watches, but they’re not many.
They don't need that many at those prices. It's like what they said with Android vs. iOS... former had more users, but it was said the latter is more affluent and spends more $$, so they didn't need as many users to keep up.

Will they have the Apple watch Flava Flav edition?
Heh... I remember the Comedy Central R*@$+! to Flavor Flav, Carrot Top gave him a grandfather clock, while Lisa Lampanelli brought up why he's even wearing a clock.. he hasn't had to be anywhere for the past 20 years :D

As long as the pricing for the stainless steel 45mm version’s price don’t increase, I’m upgrading from my S4, otherwise, I’ll get a S7.

1000 euros for a (good) watch is still not that expensive, however, most watches in that price range will last decades and will hold a charge for many years.

I stopped wearing my Apple Watches simply because they are not durable enough. They get scratched and nicked fairly easily and if you shatter the glass the only option is to buy a new watch. Not to mention charging it every day is cumbersome.

If Apple can overcome these issues then maybe I will consider buying them again.

People's mortgages are paying off the homes they live in. It's a lifelong investment that has a profitable return. You blow money on overpriced meals that wind up in the toilet 🚽
