It may come as a shock, but some people make a lot of money where dropping $900 for a watch or phone isn’t a big deal for them.

I’ve had dinners that cost more than some people’s mortgages. It’s all relative, my friend. Apple is a premium brand that caters to more affluent customers.
I spend more on aftershave than any dinners you’re having.

Pretty amazing how a Kuo-generated rumor about a bigger, more rugged watch already has details about Apple's anticipated production volume. So a rumor on top of a rumor. Slow news day, I guess.

A bucket of chum dumped in the water so people can worked up over nothing.

The only way for some to feel better, apparently.

Exactly. A round Watch would have to either have loads of unused screen space at the sides to fit a narrow column of text or have only the middle few lines readable. Not the ideal UX. I’m of the opinion Apple started making a round Watch originally (hence a lot of the circular motifs in the UI) and quickly dumped it when they realised all the compromises needed just to have a circular clock screen.

Hence why IMO, most Apple watch faces look pretty bad.

I’m flexing?

We’re posting on a website where people often post photos and talk about their multi-thousand dollar apple purchases.

And your handle is CoachGQ…
You eat dinners that cost more than people's mortgages...Yeah, that's a flex regardless of what others post. And my bad on my name being George Quinn.

Nope.

Apple today is completely mainstream and reaches across all consumer demographics.

That's why there's a budget, mid-tier and high-end option for nearly every Apple product.

Additionally, most smartphones and a huge chunk of Apple Watches are not paid up-front but with various kinds of payment plans, trade-in deals, loans, etc., with various discounts and deals, etc.

This is the same reason why AW Pro won't be a huge issue at $499-$999 or more -Carriers and retailers will just push downpayment plans and bundles harder so that it's just a small monthly fee.

People moaning about price but there are brands out there (without technology) selling their logo for $50,000+
They don’t sell very many though. Their business model is ultra super high margin, not volume.
Apple wants to create a super high margin product within reach of the masses. It won’t sell in high volume either. But it has lower tiers that just have ordinary (for Apple) high margins that will sell in much higher volume than the halo model attracting all the attention.

Yeah but not a “base model”….this doesn’t offer any enhanced specs outside of size.

Bigger display and battery as well. More durable as well some pretty key areas for the larger cost. Aside from that the same features will be there on the £400 Watch.

1 million units might be a tad enthusiastic if it costs $900+…

I can see the article “Apple cuts production due to low demand” already.
Plenty skipped S7 hoping for a big upgrade to S8. They have already parted with the $399 mentally.

So when Apple omits all the key upgrades to the $399 S8 and pushes them all to a $499-$999+ AW "Pro" they'll be "forced" to spend a few hundred more.

Apple will also throw in extra battery life and attractive materials/aesthetics for the Pro while the $399 AW stays with the same, semi-tacky aluminium finishes and S7 design.

The standard $399 S8 AW will look like a bad deal by comparison to this AW Pro. It's that simple.

If it offered more features than the smaller apple watches, I’d consider it at that price point (largely blood pressure and blood glucose level monitoring, temperature) and longer battery life.

If it’s just a rehash of the slightly smaller watches, I’m not sure that large of a price gap makes sense.

You already have idiots who shell out $900+ for a phone so why not a watch too lmao
Not everybody worry’s about how much something costs. If I want it I buy it. I buy a new black Titanium each year at $849 plus AppleCare and sell it when new one comes out each year. I do same with phone but that I give back to Apple. If you don’t earn enough to buy what you want well who is the idiot?

What is Apple smoking with a $999 price tag?

Are we forgetting that the stainless steel and ceramic models exist?

You will still have the base model, and more expensive tiers for people willing to pay extra for something different.

That said, I don’t see much credence in this rumour. I can see Apple releasing a watch made with more durable materials geared towards people with lifestyles that may be too harsh for the current Apple Watch, but I don’t think it will necessarily cost that much more.

The affluent people are buying Rolex, Patek, AP.

Apple is doing a useless job of appealing to affluent watch buyers.
In fairness Apple have it pretty well figured how they can increase their profits. That’s what they’re after in the first place when expanding their product line.

I mean I’d buy it.

I’m 6’3 so a bigger Apple Watch is a huge plus for me.
I’ll sure do as well - at least if it is designed as an elegant allround watch. If it is this rough sport watch, that was rumored I’ll pass

In a a late announcement, Apple has stated that preorders for this new, expensive watch has been unprecedented with most of the orders coming from the MacRumors forum membership. When asked why demand was so high for a product unseen, one member told Rumors Anonymous the reason was "Apple."

$999 for a watch… just wait till they announce the price tag for the Apple Watch Stand… and the Apple Watch Stand with optional wheels

I work my butt off and have an advanced degree and a good income. I prefer better technology and more advanced products that I can afford. Just because you can only afford cheap crap, please don't call me an idiot. Are you able to go back to school and get a better job with a higher income so you can afford nice things? LMAO
It’s not only that but most people do their most computing on a smartphone. No one would call you an idiot for spending $1K on a computer. For me it’s totally worth the price.
