Then the average person is a moron. Refurb's are almost better than brand new. They have been checked over thoroughly by Apple, and come with a warranty. Only a moron would pay $30 bucks less for a 1 year old Ipad over a brand new one.

What's your point? Fact is that he can get $400 for it, as evidenced by Tinknock71 who JUST GOT $400 for his. The buyer and seller are both happy. Either the buyer doesn't want to pay the $30+ tax for a few months more warranty, or they're unaware of it. I fail to see the problem here.

I would never use Craigslist for something like this. I have a feeling the real offers are the 300-350, and the scammers are the ones telling you $400-500.

How exactly can you scam someone on Craigslist? Counterfeit bills is the only way that comes to mind.

I think I know what's going on here.

We've got a bunch of people who sold their iPads months ago in anticipation of the iPad 2, and now they're jealous that others are getting just as much money as they got for theirs, 2 days before the iPad 2 is unveiled. So basically they got months of extra use out of their iPad for free.

Someone offered me $600 for it and I said no and they kept flagging my post. I emailed them and asked them to stop and he denied that it was him. Coincidently, the flagging stopped after that email....
Weird huh?

Sorry, but that ain't how craigslist operates. There have to be a LOT of individual people flagging your post from unique IP addresses in order for a post to be removed by the system.

Oh really? Didn't know that. I have never been flagged before so I assumed he got upset and started flagging my posts. It stopped when I spoke to him so I sort of put two and two together. Thank you for clearing that up.

Pretty much a buyer's market right now with a lot of people trying to unload and get ready for the announcements next week. The market is being flooded and that will always bring costs down some.

definitely this ^^^

It will be very exciting to see new iPad, or two releases, this calendar year!

You're welcome. There's more info about flagging on craigslist's FAQ if you're interested.

Exactly. Great post.

Not really. People have been getting $400 for used base model iPads, as recently as yesterday and today. Therefore an offer of $300 would be a lowball. Doesn't matter if all you get is $300 offers when the item commonly goes for as much as $400. It's still a lowball, and I would recommend waiting for a decent offer. Sometimes I've had to re-list items a few times on Craigslist before I get a decent offer, but it comes if you're patient.

Luckily I just bought 3-Month old 16GB WIFI ONLY for $300 on CL. If you are in market for iPad 1, definitely look for a bargain. You might be able to get $350 at most. There are people just getting rid of their iPads because of imminent iPad 2 release. Now, I am going to sell this quickly at $400 for my profit. :D

It depends on where you are I guess. I shockingly sold my 16GB WiFi last night for $429 after being posted (for $429) for 17 hours and 5 inquiries. The guy was shopping the Apple refurbs too. :apple: richmond craigslist ftw

I would find it so hard to judge what is considered a reasonable price on a forum such as this that has a worldwide audience. There would be so many different factors influencing the price, including how many other people in the area are also selling, either used or new, and the economic demographic of your area.

Nice. He saved the tax and was happy, you got a ridiculously good price and were happy. Win-Win.

Where I am near Cupertino, CA with so many people working for Apple or related to people working for Apple, there are a ton of early adopters here. People know more than just rumors which you find on these boards, but for obvious reasons, you don't have them telling the world. However, in small circles locally, people talk about their work, which often on some level includes Apple, and when a "new" product comes out, it's not so new to us high tech in the valley or nearby.

From what I have experienced, the early adopters often have more money than most to spend on high tech or are simply in a high tech lifestyle and have apportioned funds accordingly, and have no issue with selling a still perfectly workable Apple product, still on warranty, on the cheap.

If you see local ads at any Silicon Valley area colleges, laundry businesses, post office posterboards, or almost anywhere, people dump relatively new Apple gear very cheaply since most are on the hunt for the flavor of the month.

Where some of you may find you Mac to be some sort of investment, being so close to Apple and seeing the company through its ups and downs, most locals see a computer/iPod/iPad/iPhone as useful tools. You buy it, you use it, and when you sell it, (like any useful tools), you probably don't have a strong resale value. If you want a good resale value, get into baseball cards or the "hot" antique item in favor.

Well when it includes the apple case+camera kit, I think that's pretty low.

accessories usally don't give you much in terms of price. it just sells faster.

I have a 64GB G3 and I would probably sell for 550-600. basically around 25%-30% off and that is pretty much what people are offering for yours. so there is no lowballing at all.

it's just that in the past used prices for apple products were insanely high because of all the Stupids out there. this is over for now.

Well said. Not sure why people think possibly making an extra $50 is worth going 2 months without an ipad.

I bought my ipad 3 months ago as a refurb because I had planned on selling after the new ipad came out. I may wait though depending on how "magical" the specs are for the new one. I paid $499 + tax for a 32gb wifi refurb... I imagine I could get around $400-450 now or $350-400 even a month or two after the new one comes out. Not a big loss really.

Sold my 64GB wifi for $560 that I got on launch day. Posted it last night on CL and sold this afternoon. I figure 80% retained value isn't bad.

I figure different people have a different value on having use of their ipad for a couple months vs the $50 or $100 change in resale.

I bought mine via CL six weeks ago for substantially less than what I'd have spent on a refurb. If I buy a 2nd gen, I will be happy with the value of having had use of the ipad in my recent business travels vis-a-vis the price delta between buy and resale. Based on current speculation, I may skip the 2nd gen ipad as the big thing for me doesn't seem likely ("retina" display).

How have any of you managed to sell your iPad with all these lowballers on there?

All I am getting is $300-$350 offers, which i just ignore :(

Sounds about right for a used 16GB WiFi iPad. Especially now with the impending launch of iPad 2.

i sold my 16 gb wifi with a case for 450 the other day... near boston.

That's an excellent sale.

I live in a small town that has a pretty good number of people who still don't own computers, or if they do, don't like to shop online. Hey, it's a rural thing here and maybe in other rural areas of the world.

Anyway, if something is in short enough supply (though anything Apple isn't so much since Apple is one of our local companies within a couple hours driving distance), you can get top dollar for many items.

For instance, this is a good area to have certain used cars. The closest decent car dealership who may have a lot of used cars is quite far away, so if you have that '60s Mustang, you are more likely to find a buyer, if they see your car, to get a good amount of money from them.

A few hours away, however, in SF or LA, you can find that 'stang pretty much on the cheap, and in any color.

I think a great deal of it has to do with the area you're in as well. Last week I bought a 16gb 3G Ipad for $425 which I personally thought was a great deal. This week where I am working at the prices on CL seem to be roughly $75 higher then what I paid.
