They really should stick with the 3.5" screen... Many still want the 3.5" after the 4"(iPhone 5) was in the hands of the consumer.

I understand with the market demand of a 4" needed/wanted, and a better aspect ratio, but Apple assuredly could keep this cheaper iPhone at a 3.5" for a couple years to say the least.

Also, the 3.5" pleases the App developers still rolling out Apps with that aspect ratio as well... I see the 3.5" screen as a legit possibility as I predicted awhile back.

And furthermore, it would give drastic product differentiation in the iPhone product segment, and this would ultimately help Apple and their two rumored iPhones for many reasons mid to long-term.

I agree with the 3.5" screen on the cheaper(& heavier) polycarbonate iPhone...
There will 2 models with 4 inch screen, makes sense to keep 3.5 to cover that segment. Also bringing in 6 with 4.85 inch..

This is the only way I'll be able to upgrade from my 3G, so screw all the haters. I can't afford $580 for a phone.

You don't seem to understand that the US carriers mostly subsidize phones, which is the only reason the iPhone 5 is $199/$299/$399. This phone will be $300 (allegedly) with no subsidy. Therefore, much more affordable in countries that don't have subsidies from carriers.

Yeah. I'm aware.

Its just funny to me how some of you talk about plastic in disgust, yet seemed to have no problem with it 7 years ago when most of Apples product line was mostly plastic (in some form).

Blame that on Apple! they set a new standard for aesthetics by moving away from plastic over the years. Based on their current aesthetic standards, a plastic product may seem a step backwards.

:apple:

Who gives a flying toss how thin it is!!! people want big screens at a reasonable price!

Speak for yourself, I do NOT want a bigger screen for my phone.
I am aware that a lot of people would like a bigger screen, but that does not mean ALL people do.
And coming to the the rather tiresome subject of fragmentation. The BBC ( a public broadcasting company for the UK and N.I.) were recently often criticised
for providing a better iPlayer (on demand service) for iOS than for Android.
Their response was that it was easier for them (and cheaper) to optimise the app for iOS as it caters for fewer screen sizes and far less different hardware.
So wishing for loads of different screen sizes is also wishing for lower quality experience regarding app experience.

This is not going to work in my country.

I'm in Brazil. Apple considers it a market important enough to build a factory here. We don't have contracts like the Americans do; we almost always buy phones off contract.

Right now, the cheapest iPhone 4 (not the 4S, the 4) costs R$ 1.099,00, which is more or less US$ 550,00.

The cheapest iPhone 4S costs R$ 1.699,00, or more or less US$ 850,00. The iPhone 5 isn't even being sold in Apple's Online store here, but phone companies sell the cheapest one for R$ 2.399,00, or more or less US$ 1.200,00.

A "cheap" iPhone like the plastic one would not sell for less than US$ 500,00 here. It wouldn't really add much to Apple's current market around here.

it looks nice fake or not reminds me of the unibody white plastic MacBooks.

Yea I'm going to get it no matter what it looks like. The 3G can't do anything right now except text, call, and music. Email is ok. Safari is god awfully slow. Almost no 3rd party apps work.

That iPhone looks mighty close to the prototype iPad pictures that were going around the web. Hopefully this is a fake, because this phone looks terrible. Not sure who in their right mind wants to buy something like that.

So something affordable has to be cheap and nasty? Got it

Yes. How else will I justify my yacht, Ferrari, and 200+ room mansion? Everything less is cheap and nasty. And yes, when a better Ferrari, yacht, and larger mansion come out, mine are now cheap and nasty by default. Luckily, I can upgrade the mansion.

If Porsche made an ugly piece of junk car that sold for $12,000, a lot of Porsche owners would be disgusted.

It ruins the brand.

Believe you me, all the 911 owners are already disgusted seeing te peasants drive around in every other crappy model of Porsche. Those other models they make are why Porsche doesn't have a name like Ferrari, Lamborghini, Bugatti, etc.

At the risk of pizzing everyone off (ok, maybe not everyone) I will say that the world does not end at the US borders. I rarely see an iphone here (mexico) and in fact apple stuff is more expensive here in mexico. THIS might put the iphone in the hands of more mexican's, they would be smart to do it.

PS: It's not always about you.

Sounds like Mexico prices.

Even your housekeeper? That's shameful. I wouldn't put up with that at all.

Jeez, what a snob. (Not you, the guy you quoted) Talk about a sereotypical apple owner.

People are grouching here saying they see no point in this phone. Although i always go for premium products, I for one welcome it. As some of us don't have the creature comforts others do and they should be given the opportunity to share a part of what makes Apple such a great brand particularly the robust app store.

In addition to this just like the Mini which many have also been nagging about, there is more choice for consumers rather than having a single tablet or phone being displayed in the store window. All I can say is bring it on, Apple needs a change to make a mark and dent in the market.

You have not learned the world ends at the us borders?:D

Obviously, I'd prefer metals in the mix, but for that price, this even looks like it'll be killer competition for the low quality, plastic android devices out there.

I want to see people's reactions when this is released.

Looks cheap and easily scratchable.
I'll stick to milled aluminum and steel thanks.

I really hope it doesn't have a 3.5 inch screen.

I feel exactly the opposite. Give me back my 3.5" screen!!!!! . At least make it a fricken option. The 4 inch looks too streched out. And don't even get me started about making it wider.
