There was a pre-order for the iPad 2, right?
If so, then pre-orders for iPad 3/HD would be this week for March 16th delivery?

No pre-order for iPad 2.

Don't think Apple will do pre-orders for the new iPad either. They want the lines + limited supply.

Wait, so you have two iPhones which neither is using close to their allotted data limit, and you want to pay EXTRA for the privilege of using the data you already paid for??
I am all for the shared data plans, but if not if means paying for the same data twice.

In an ideal world, no, I wouldn't want to pay twice for data I am already paying for. But, there has to be an incentive for the carrier to allow shared data. My guess is that this comes in the form of a bucket of data + device access charges. So something like:

5GB /month = $60
Device Access /month = $10

So, 2 phones and a tablet cost you $90 /month. The current plan is 3 x 2GB /month at $90. The bet they would be taking is that people decide to put more devices on and then have overages. They would double-dip on the cost (more device access charges + overage charges, or people just upgrade their plan to the next, more expensive tier).

The problem then becomes available spectrum, but that is an entirely separate debate.

Does anybody know if LTE is available in the UK?

No not yet but I believe it's under trails. That's why LTE over here won't be a selling point until iPad 4/5 when availability is rolled out. I really hope that LTE isn't going to cost us more especially when we can't use it.

The UK hasn't had their spectrum sale yet for 4G.

It's really no different from having to pay an extra $10 per cell phone on a family plan. Is that unreasonable as well? You already paid for the minutes, no? If you take that theory to it's logical conclusion, you should be able to have 50 or 100 cell phones on the same plan with no additional cost.

I cut the shared minutes "some" slack since there is the maintenance of an actual phone number and gets you a subsidized device (which an iPad is not), but even that has some gouging when you see https://ting.com/plans and infer the logical conclusions.
The subsidy is the real key here.

grrrr that's what I feared. I forgot what happened last time. Thanks for the answer Kevin!

Meh couldn't care less about LTE or even 3G for that matter as I dont need them. As long as there is plenty of stock and non of this artificial 'limited stock' crap I'm happy :)

With this LTE feature. my only thought is: "Greedy Americans"

LTE isn't available for more than half of the world you know :/

Damn Americans thinking about them selves again :/
....

Anyway, i'll be buying the WiFi-only Version of the iPad 3 ... cause i never even use 3G on my iPhone /

No Hate here... just saying my opinion.

If it launched in the UK in time for me to have one before the 26th I would be a very happy person! :D

I can confirm with solid sources that there will be no LTE for the iPad3/HD.*

*I have no idea

So Apple should wait to roll-out functionality until half of the world or more has general access to it? You do realize that they could just shelve most of their products now if that were the case, right?

If you don't have LTE in your area, don't buy an LTE iPad? It will still work with 3G networks and likely be the same price. I don't see the downside.

i'm just saying i think there is more profit from the 3G iPad than the LTE iPad.

but i think apple will make the ipad 3 4g and 3g capable :) cause they're brilliant in making people happy.

again... some People outside of america might not even know what LTE is. (just some not all)

4G LTE is nice but wireless company price plans are not charge you extra if you go over a GB/tethering/throttling blah blah they want more money..4G is fast and fast to eat up data. iPad 3* will have a nice HD screen there for crazy data use for big HD content .as for me I don't have the needs for a built in 4G I'm good wifi..plus iPhone 5* is coming and should have 4G LTE so I'll just tether it like I do with my iPad 2 with my iPhone 4.yeah I'm too cheap:D or maybe I'll get a 4G LTE iPad if the legen is true that iPad with 7" inch screen that will be more of something I can carry around with me most the times :D

I'll be buying a new iPad regardless.

If it has LTE, I'll buy one with the cellular hardware for it.
If no LTE, then I'll be buying the wifi only version.

I bet there are a lot of people sharing my view.

couldnt care less for LTE here in the netherlands.

You know what is ironic? LTE for Verizon and Sprint is developed by Alcatel-Lucent Romania (Timisoara). Still, Europe will not get any LTE implementation anytime soon. Maybe at the end of 2012 or 2013. So, if Apple really puts LTE into the iPad 3/HD, I hope that will be the wakeup call for the guys here in Europe to get on the LTE-train. 3G is becoming a real headache.

Why would they not add LTE?

They aren't going to update the iPad 3 until next year, so they have to stay on top of things.

Spitballing here...if its an "iPad HD" then they could keep the iPad 2 around as the standard unit. Hopefully with a price reduction.

both o2 and bt are putting out 4g testing areas mostly around the Olympics area orange and other operators will be doing the same shortly apparently

If the new iPad will have LTE/4G I am surprised we will have to wait until sometime in the fall for the new iPhone with the same technology. The iPhone seems well behind the curve at this point IMO. Don't flame me just my opinion.

Unless they decide to sync the release date of the iPad and iPhone (which I don't believe they ever will) one or the other will always be a little behind the curve.

tell me this, what good is speed when you're limited to 2/3gb a month?

Great! I can enjoy a whole whoopin 2 high def movies a month at blazing speeds!

Cause everything else would load fast as well, u know most people use their data for other stuff besides high definition stream on the go. Don't get me wrong, I'm completely against tiered data plans (or this low of a cap anyways), but saying because is capped that is useless thats a bit much don't u think?

Anyways show me the LTE!
