Apologies for the novice (or possibly repetitive) comment, but I'm having trouble reconciling the consumer's desire/demand for LTE with the expense of data consumption. On one end, AT&T is throttling people down. On the other, people want the increase of speed to - I presume - consume more data. If anyone is interested in putting those pieces together for me I'd be appreciative. Just don't understand where this is going.

Because 3GB is more than enough for 99% of customers. As long as you aren't streaming Netflix 24/7 you really shouldn't be coming close to 3GB. AT&T/Apple are targeting legitimate users of bandwidth, not the 1% who just constantly leave their devices sucking up data and slowing down the network for everyone else.

The future is (and people want) 4G LTE for faster speeds. It's still rolling out but will become the standard like 2G, 3G have in the past.

AT&T is only throttling the people going beyond 3GB who do not want to pay for it. Data costs money and people need to pay for it. It's really simple.

I think there will be two models:

1. iPad 2S
8gb / 16gb
Non-Retina
Siri
A5X Processor
LTE
iOS5

2. iPad 3 HD
32/64/128gb
Retina Display
Siri
A6 Processor
LTE
OSX 10.8 Mountain Lion

Wishful thinking but highly doubt it. Apple won't release two different iPad models.

What's most likely to happen is Apple may decide to keep the base iPad 2 16GB model and sell it for $299 (to be price competitive with the cheaper Android tablets).

And than sell the Ipad (HD) (3rd gen) model at $499 and up.

With this LTE feature. my only thought is: "Greedy Americans"

LTE isn't available for more than half of the world you know :/

Damn Americans thinking about them selves again :/
....

Anyway, i'll be buying the WiFi-only Version of the iPad 3 ... cause i never even use 3G on my iPhone /

No Hate here... just saying my opinion.

That makes sense...

[Apple released iPhone without 3G] "Stupid Americans, the rest of the world has to deal with a 3G-less phone because America doesn't have great 3G."

[Apple releases LTE iPad] "Greedy Americans, we have to buy a product with LTE all because America has decent LTE support"

Awww, even haters have opinions....and you, my foreign friend are definitely a hater. I pity all the haters....for they are truly alone while wallowing in their own misery.

Although LTE wouldn't matter to me as I will be purchasing the wifi version, I realize it does to others. I'm really looking forward to retina and maybe even a surprise or two.

Really? Cuz I'm pretty sure if it came out the same day I ordered it I would of just went in lone instead of getting up at 3am to order it online..

Apple Store is Back Up with iPad 2, No Pre-Orders Allowed

"The Apple Store is back online and updated with the new iPad 2. Apple won’t start selling the iPad in stores until 5pm on March 11th. Tragically, as our colleague John Brownlee noticed, there isn’t an ability to pre-order the iPad 2, as orders aren’t going to be taken until March 11th. Guess if you want an iPad on March 11th you’ll have to wait in line at the store with all the other crazy and deranged fans"

Fail!

We invented Apple, Inc. So without the "Greedy Americans" you would have nothing but stones to throw around ... we get first dibs on anything Apple develops so get used to it jerk off.

Although the post you responded to was idiotic (to put it mildly), without Apple (or Americans or anyone individual Country) the world would hardly be in the stone age. Might be speaking German, though... :D

What are you talking about? So Apple waits 2 or 3 years for everyone in the world to get LTE? If the device costs the same and falls back to 3G why do you even care anyway? Either buy the WiFi version or buy the cellular version and have a device that will work when LTE is rolled out in your area. It's actually of *benefit* to you because your device will work on the new network when it indeed is available in your area. Think before you speak.

We should also wait to have banks until EU/Greece get their stuff together.

It's not America's fault you don't have 4G

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; CPU iPhone OS 5_0_1 like Mac OS X) AppleWebKit/534.46 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.1 Mobile/9A405 Safari/7534.48.3)

4G would explain why they don't want a '3' in the name.

But what about the iPad 2 3G?

That's what they've done with iPhones in the past, so it wouldn't be something new for them to do that this time around.

I know, but they didn't do preorders for the iPad 2 last year, so I hope that they don't do the same this year. I'd like to not have to stand in line or be stuck waiting for stock to replenish. I guess we'll know soon enough. :)

Do people use the data from their iPad and iPhone?

There is tethering and your iPhone has gps

I still don't quite get why spend the extra $130 plus month data plan?

not really

Say hello to fragmentation.

That's not what fragmentation means.

It wouldn't prevent apps from working on all iPads... It wouldn't mean that some iPad's get iOS updates and some didn't.

It would just mean that Apple could sell models with different radios to regions that support those radios...

or were you being sarcastic?

In the USA cell phone companies are very greedy. They do not let you tether even with limited iPhone data plans. So that 2GB/3Gb iPhone data plan u pay $25/30 for can only be used for iPhone data.

They want you to pay an additional $20 a month so u can tether up to 4gb/5GB. So that means you have to pay $50 a month for the right to tether

I think in Canada and other countries. They let u use the tethering for free as part of your overall iPhone data plan. So if you have a 6GB data plan for ur Canadian iPhone data plans. They will let u use all of the data anyway you want to use it including tethering for free from that same bucket of data.

Gotta Love Verizon

For putting that ridiculous post on their website in an effort to acquire emails from people for their advertisement of products. Wouldn't surprise me if the news is nothing related to the next iPad, or if it is, it probably won't come until very late in the day or same time tomorrow haha.

As far as the new iPad goes, the 8 GB iPad 2 is iffy to me, but not impossible. What I think is more improbable will be a smaller sized iPad option. If Apple wanted to put out a tablet that is a size between the iPhone and iPad, they would have done it by now; I think Apple doesn't see enough of a market out there to put out yet ANOTHER device that is too similar to the iPhone and iPad. Just seems too redundant to me but I could be wrong.

Ipad 3 or ipad HD? I could care less about the name. Will probably have the same sizes as the previous two models and have same price points. Anyone else besides me think that Apple HAS to move up to an A6 chip? I think the upgrade to an A5X from the A5 in the iPad 2 would be too small, yet i don't know for sure just how much of a boost the new chip would get....

"Watch TV on the go............for 10 minutes per month!"

"You are at 2gb this month....you are bogging our network down...please get off unlimited and join our more expensive 3gb capped plan!"

This is right. No doubt about it. I, too, thought I "pre-ordered" it. But the one thing I clearly remember -- as I was waiting until midnight (PST) to order online -- was the breaking Tsunami news. A quick check of Wikipedia confirms that the Tsunami was on 3/11. That's the day I ordered it.

I think I (and my coworker who did the same) were hoping beyond hope that it would ship from within the US and we'd get it "right away." But I also have clear memories of watching FedEx every day (every hour?) and painfully waiting for it to make its way from China, through customs, and then down the coast from Alaska to So Cal.

If memory serves, I think it arrived the following Thursday -- was that 3/17?

Depends on your take on fragmentation.

Most people think fragmentation is purely derived from the app store/marketplace and the multitude of variations of android devices.

You currently have two variants of iPad with an array of sizes. Thats already confusing to Apples target demographic. Why would they bump that up to 3 options?

"I'd like an iPad"

"Would you like the WiFI only, the WiFI and 3G or the WiFI and 3G and LTE"

Can you imagine how mind-fubared people are gonna be when they are confused by the current options.

If its gonna have LTE, its gonna be on all of them. Completely un-Apple like to fragment their devices depending on regional network availability.

As I mentioned already, they held off on a 3G iPhone until the yanks came out of the dark ages and actually got 3G.

I purely use the iPad at home anyway, so even though the muppets in charge in the UK can't get their act together and get this spectrum auction underway, its a moot point from my point of view.

But looking at it as a tech-fan I'd say hell yeah, load that baby up with everything, ramp up the ram, ramp up the processor, throw in everything you can.

Can't see it happening though. Not as crucial to an iPad as it would be to the iPhone.
