My plan was to show up around 3am. I slept all day so i could stay up tonight.

at least you'll be in front of all the people who sleep at night :D

i think i'll be riding by on my schwinn with my DV cam to film y'all...for rabid web capitalization and mucho bandwidth suckage a la ginza.

Man, that is hard-core...especially how busy that intersection is. I went by at lunch...a couple of them were all stocked up with potato chips, cookies, Coke,...lol

Uh, yeah. I kind of expected campers, but not that early. I don't think you could pay me enough to sit at Grant & Market for 24 hours. It's usually trying enough just passing through. I'll be there, but it won't technically be "morning" anymore, that's for sure. I plan to be sleeping. This is also partially because it seems like a good idea to avoid the temptation to spend $250 on a grab bag that is bound to contain an unfortunate mix of stuff I already have and stuff I don't need.

If I were camped out there, I'd definitely put out a box labeled "PLEASE HELP -- NEED MONEY FOR G5 -- ANYTHING YOU CAN SPARE WILL MAKE A DIFFERENCE."

That corner should be more pleasant than previously, on the upside. The Sephora store always gagged me when I walked past, and then the MUNI stairwell would immediately gag me again, with a completely different smell. Assuming the new stairwell is even open yet, it won't have had time to gain that wonderful urine smell. I mean, unless that's where all the folks waiting in line decide to go.

I couldn't even imagine asking my boss for the day off, much less telling my friends. "Gosh, guys, I'd love to go to dinner tonight, but I'm camping out in front of the Apple Store"...LOL

A couple of my coworkers asked me if I'd be camping. No way. IMO there is nothing in the Universe important enough to camp on the sidewalk for. Not an Apple Store, not a concert, not a ball game, not an organ transplant, not Jesus Christ autographing copies of the Bible at Stacey's. Nothing.

'Specially tonight. It's chilly out there.

Geek is the understatement of the year. Camping out to get into a store to buy products that you can already get at any other Apple store in the Bay area, or the Compusa one block away is utterly ridiculous. If they were launching new products on the same day I might understand, but even then it's pretty lame. And that gift bag? Come on. Anyone into their Mac's enough to stand in line already has most of the items in it, if not all of them. Other retailers have straight out giveaways, or drawings. Apple lets you buy a bag of discounted items, including poor selling software like Keynote. I love Apple as much as everyone else here, but they can do better than that.

If your not in line now, forgetaboutit. There were approx. 170 people in line at around 2AM Saturday morning.

Re: Re: 60th in line

Thanks, andrewh - now I know how pathetic we all are. I must be waiting for products that I can already buy, or only for the bag... Not that I want to kick it with a couple hundred friendly people, or anything. Never mind that I have a chance to network and laugh with other people who are passionate about the Mac and related products or topics. It's not like I'm having a great time just being here. Yeah, I just wanted the bag and other products that I could have picked up at the Bay Street store.

I wish I would have consulted with you before coming out here, because you're right and I'm an idiot.

kugino (and anyone else in the area), come say hello. I have a red balloon on the back of my chair, and I'm at the edge of the orange traffic cones (by Fossil, FIDM and United Colors of Benetton).

Heya!

I guess it's 5am in San Francisco now.
I hope you guys waiting in line survives the chilly and moist SF-morning!

Just to say hi, and to let you know that our eyes are watching you form the other side of this earth... sounds like you are having fun after all :D

little over four hours til we see the goodies! it's still cold...but starbucks just opened and we're all warming up on coffee and hot chocolate

If someone buys a bag and doesn't want it, I will buy it from you.

I will happily sell you my bag. The contents of the bag, however, I intend to keep.

Line is now well over 300. I wonder how many people at the end thought they would beat the crowd? Our status, btw, has been upgraded from 60-ish to 40-ish. Wooooooooha!

That would be really cool, if someone in line had an isight. Or can anyone upload a quick photo of the line.

There is probably going to be a lot more software in the bag than hardware. The "retail value" of iLife could be $199 or some crazy figure like Jobs had in his keynote, whereas the sale value is $49.

The bag itself, of course! You think Apple has a bag manufacturing plant out there in Cupertino?

:)

its right between the powerbook factory and the ipod factory

It is great reading all that excitement of those waiting in line for the store opening. It is now just one more hour to wait. I also hope that someone with iSight or a Digital camera will post pictures.
