No question Silver is the most lowkey and most neutral option of the lot. But the next and only other neutral option is the Blue. Blue goes with pretty much anything, as best exampled by how pretty much anything can be worn acceptably with blue jeans.

So, want some colour, but don’t feel too daring? Take the Blue.

If the chin was removed and the bezels were black then it would just look like any monitor. They want it to look like an iMac. I don’t think people fully appreciate the importance of the chin.
I think people do, but at one point in time the same was said about the home button on the iPhone and iPad, yet here we are. Apple need to stop letting the design and it being a recognisable product come before what the consumers actually want.

Exactly this! They want it to be readily recognizable which it would not be if it were just a near bezel-less display.

Apple logo along the bottom bezel matching the colour of the reverse of the mac would have been perfect, easily recognisable, far better than a huuuuge chin on the device and I think most would agree this would be a lot more appealing for the majority of users.

There is just no reason in 2021 to have that huge outdated chin, TV makers only have their logo similar to the above and are all recognisable on a shop floor.

The chin doesn’t bother me in the slightest. I miss the home button on my latest iPhone.

Maybe Jony Ive leaving was a bad thing
Oh you forgot Tim Cook stated that Ive’s private company will still work with Apple in product design right? Also notice during the spring keynote Apple never stated “designed in California by Apple”?!

for all we know Jony Ive’s company may have actually designed this iMac

Oh hell!

It’s ugly beyond one’s imagination!
Thought it was just me! Glad to hear someone else say that, With all the glowing feedback from these colours. I actually don't mind the colours, but that fat grey mismatching bezel just isn't my cup of tea.

I can see the appeal to others, but I personally love the concept images of a silver / space-grey bezel-free iMac, which I always hoped would become a reality. Perhaps that's what Apple feels is somewhat of a "Pro" look, and since they've discontinued the iMac Pro they're doubling-down on the colourful consumer market.

It’s risky to use a device for a week and declare that it’s an iconic design that will stand the test of time for years to come, but I’ll do it. The 24-inch M1 iMac is an iconic design that will stand the test of time for years to come.

After looking at photos of the new iMac for a while, deciding which one to order, my 2014 iMac seems really boring and old fashioned now. I'm not crazy about the orange, purple and pink but that's just preference. The new iMac stand seems a little weird compared to the old one. But that's not worth whining about and I think it's a great design, overall.

Yeah, sure. Thats what pretty much everyone was expecting because of the rumours. But I don’t actually find or like it better than what we actually got, just different—probably because I’m not so hung up on it like many seem to be. Apparently Apple didn’t feel a nothing-but-display was as distinctive either. Certainly colour options wouldn’t have had as much impact.

And candidly it wasn’t until I started frequent MacRumors that I found so many hung up on the chin elements on the iMac’s design. Outside of here almost no one talks about it.

It seems some cannot get over not getting exactly what they expected. I can understand that to some degree. But instead of just shrugging it off they are hellbent in constantly arguing what Apple got wrong and rationalizing why. They cannot accept Apple sees it differently, and considering Apple’s batting average and overall success it’s hard to argue with that.

It should be obvious that having colour options was an important consideration in marketing the new iMac. Having a coloured back and pedestal behind a nothing-but-display design would not make much impact. We would still be impressed, and many could have been proud with their predictive ability, but it wouldn’t have created the same buzz. Everybody (who cares) is talking about this. The reaction, within and beyond MacRumours, is overwhelmingly positive. It’s a unquestionable win with the petulant whining notwithstanding.

I was surprised—it wasn’t what I thought we would get. But I didn’t immediately hate what we actually got. And the more I look at it the better I understand and appreciate the thinking behind because they thought of things I hadn’t considered previously—no surprise given they know their product and market better than I do.

I suspect the very same expectation-turned-dislike over the 24in. iMac is going to be repeated with the forthcoming big iMac. The very same critics now seem so dead certain (or so they keep repeating) the big iMac will be a Pro, be chinless, only Space Gray (and maybe Silver) and have all the goodies the 24 doesn’t yet have.

"This iMac model achieved a higher score on the Geekbench 5 single-core benchmark than any Mac we've ever seen before — even the iMac Pro."

Um... not sure why the reviewer would say that like it's a surprise. Mac Pro single core isn't it's strength at all - it's designed to have OK single core but kick butt on multi-core.
Which isn't even true, if you look at the chart in the video it's the Mac Mini which is the faster one.

I DO NOT GET IT.
are they downsizing the iMac until it becomes an ipad or laptop?
smaller screen size. I was hoping for larger. certainly not smaller
colors? why? may appeal to a home decorator
speed. fine
I currently have the 21,5 inch which is ok but it could be a bit bigger. The 27 inch would fit on my desk but it would look oversized and would be to big for my needs. This 24inch is a pretty good compromise.

Reducing color to something that would only appeal to a home decorator is like saying I DO NOT GET IT in a paint store, a clothes store, car colours, basically anything that offers choice, ...

That is a correct assessment. We run minis now due to this. The big let down here is that Apple was due to redesign the iMac, and hopes were high that the screen would finally be height adjustable since Apple now has invented that for the Pro Display.
Shouldn't be a "big letdown", though. The iMac has always been a simple machine.

Even the XDR monitor is barely adjustable, and that thing ALONE is $1K. That hinge is EXPENSIVE.

Within that context, I'm glad Apple didn't decide to add any of that cost to the iMac.

We're you not paying attention during the keynote? The chin is for cooling. It needs to be there.
