That mini LED display looks like it matches if not exceeds OLED.
There will be scenes where miniLED will show blooming on its edges especially with fast moving, dark background movies like "Interstellar" or "Stowaway". MiniLED is promising, but every single OLED pixels is its own dimming zone.

But yeah sure for still photos and slow moving animations, it'll be okay.

XDR for iPad Pro is as important upgrade as M1 for Mac. Mac can run heavy tasks/several tasks at once, so the more power the better.
XDR on the other hand changes how you view any content on screen, which is the single most important aspect of any tablet (those Nits will prove useful under direct sunlight). So yeah, same tablet but you could say that about M1 Mac too, which can run the same tasks it is suited for but faster. And we'll lose all the enthusiasm!

You’re absolutely right: on the other hand I doubt most enthousiasts here are designers or some kind of other graphic pro’s really requiring XDR in a professional setting. If the iPad Pro was only sold to pro’s, I don’t think it would be a big success. But Apple’s timing and marketing are flawless as always: there’s a cheap capable iPad but everyone wants the pro even at 8x the cost.

Blooming is a thing on 65-inch Samsung TVs because they have 792 dimming zones or less on them.

The iPad Pro has 2596 dimming zones in a 12.9-inch display.
Maybe the commenter only looks at screens through a microscope or a magnifying glass!

Don’t trust these youtubers, they can easily edit a video to make the blacks appear to be more black, hopefully one of the members on here can do a side by side comparison of the mini led model and 2018/2020 model.

Well the dude says he is coming from the tab s7+ and the ipad screen looks almost as good with the blacks.
I switched from the older tab s6 to the ipad pro and the oled screen was so much better. Difference was day and night.

Which means I will be keeping mine for sure when I get. The only thing that frustrated me about the ipad was the lcd screen but I didnt want to switch back to android.

You can try it for yourself, if you have OLED. Make a screenshot of the YT vid, enhance 400% near the edges when the light meets pure black. I didn't find any evidence of blooming on the slow moving parts. There appears to be some in motion but that could be caused by the redditor's camera.

But there are other things. I have the S4 and my 2020 iPP screen I like better as it's much brighter and the colors look better because of the brightness.

Some people like brighter screens. The S7 12" is 430 nits. This is fine, but if you prefer more light, the iPad may be a better choice.

That's the problem with OLED. With large TVs it's a moot issue, but these smaller screens?

But the Samsung stuff is really good. I also have the S7 11" which is oddly, not OLED but IPS. But this screen is very good and side by side with the OLED S4 I can't tell the difference.

I agree, thats why I'm keeping mine for sure. If the blacks are close to oled screen I'm already happy.
But like you say, there are so much more benefits to this screen. So I cant wait :)
1 thing I also didnt like about that tab s6 and s7 screen is lack of brightness.

Final week of waiting :) I have been without Ipad for 2,5 months now :(

and he also said he wouldn't go for the 12.9" just for Mini LED:

"It feels like an OLED. It really depends on how much value that screen quality. I wouldn't go to a larger size for it if you really like the 11 inch. It is a very nice screen though."

so, if you prefer 11" size, weight, portability then just get that it seems.

This is a very good point, and the problem with this rollout. They should have included the 11". How many people will switch eventually, either very soon when the gee whiz wears off, or when MLED 11" happens?

The real question is how long until they include the 11? Seems like guidance from Apple would help. But this would effect sales, so no way we will get that :D

now i've watched those videos on a bigger (professionally calibrated display) .... you can see the blooming lol. ran the same videos on my iPhone 12 Pro Max + LG CX (OLED) and no blooming.

i hope it's just the poor camera quality because people are gonna be pissed once they get their own iPads.

I can't wrap around my head why people are judging the display based on a video recording. There's no way to tell how good the display is from that video, the black will appear pitch black because the exposure is set to automatic (in other words, the video shows the display dimmer than it really is), when I take pictures or videos of my IPS monitor it looks the same way, with pitch blacks but it's neither miniLED or OLED.

If you match the exposure and make sure the black levels in the video appear as they are in real life, then you can go ahead and judge the blacks and how deep they are, or how serious the blooming effect it.
