Off topic but has anyone else noticed that keys on the keyboard aren’t all aligned properly? I’ve got about 4 keys which are tilted more upward than others and it is super distracting, especially as one of those keys is the space bar! Thinking I will ask for a replacement in about a month or so when stock improves
Mine are all uniform. If it bothers you (e.g. you can feel the difference etc) then perhaps return it for another.

Is it possible to run Safari using Rosetta and see if the issue still occurs?

Such a shame they aren't 4k screens which I'm sure apple will release in a year or two. Not sure this generation is worth getting

When something like this happens, the first thing Apple will probably be looking at is the M1's "Performance Controller," which is more OR less an Internal Bus Arbiter & Scheduler, controlling access to the various CPU cores AND the chip's hardware functions, which in this case, might be the Video Decoder !

And they will be looking @ it based-upon "past history".

Specifically, I found a Bug in the A12's performance controller, the day after I got my XR, & the very first day I began testing it.

Some important background:

1.) the XR was released on Friday, Oct 26th.

2.) I discovered the X12's bug on Saturday, Oct 27th, & I let Apple know "immediately" !

3.) A few days later, on Nov 1st, 2018, Apple has their Earnings Call & announces they will NO longer report iPhone Unit Sales !

You think there is a coincidence to ALL that ?

Apple never gave me ANY credit for finding the bug, OR reporting it to them, which they, I believe, subsequently fixed.

In the M1's case, just like in my particular case, Apple probably didn't test a certain Use Case.

For me, it was accessing the NEON cores.

Interesting, same problem that we have had for years in our 2010 iMac: only YouTube. We just felt that the machine was too old or had a memory glitch (it actually really does not feel old outside YouTube: with an SSD it boots fast and runs all apps well that a home user would need).

But considering how often we watch YouTube on it and how much it struggles with newer content, we considered a switch to M1. And now this news ?

Anybody else kernel issues with YouTube and older machines?

I encountered similar issues, two times, but on Mac Mini M1 with Big Sur and MacBook Air M1 ( with Big Sur ). The difference was that I opened the youtube movie with chrome from a different website and not directly on youtube website. I was not able to replicate the issue later.

I am still waiting for mine, bought it on launch day. It’s supposed to be coming by the 17th of November.

Many have returned there’s because of the notch. You think there will be plenty of MacBooks to go around.
I got lucky to get one at my local Apple Store the day they were released. The one I ordered online would have been delivered in two weeks.

I can't seem to recreate this. I've tried both ways and it doesn't crash on me.

I'm getting the same error under the same conditions, 4k HDR YouTube playback on Safari/Chrome. At first I thought it could have been some Chrome bug but then it crashed in Safari too. I'm running Monterey 12.0.1, 16 inch M1 Max with 32GB RAM. I haven't tried the workarounds yet. I'm thinking I should just exchange it, not sure.
Exchange hardware because software crashes... ?

These guys are using it wrong! You don’t watch YouTube on an Apple device. Wanna watch anything, watch ATV+! no more crashes, problem solved. ;)
