If they can’t do thinner, just find a way to keep the weight down.

“Good selection”? You’re too kind. More like confusing as all hell. Let’s see… 9.7”, 10.9”, 10.9”, 11.1”, 12.9”… 3 out of the 5 models in their lineup have the same size display!

Since Apple failed go give the 11” the mini-LED screen again, I won’t be upgrading my 2018 11” iPad Pro. It still does everything I need. I edit photos & 4k video on it as well as use it as a digital sketchbook & media consumption device. I am still shocked that Apple hasn’t released an iPad Pro version of Final Cut Pro yet. It’s a pro device. Customers should be able to use Apple’s Pro software. I stopped using iMovie & use LumaFusion instead. Come on Apple.

Seems like an 'S' update for the Ipad line.

We all wondered why Apple were bringing the M1 chips to the iPad considering the OS had absolutely no use for it and people were suspecting its due to future IpadOS releases supporting things like FCPX but here we are, 18 month later and they have stuck another even more powerful and equally as redundant M2 chip in the Ipad and the IpadOS updates are so buggy they had to delay launch, none of which really used the existing M1 power let alone needed anything resembling M2.

Ipad Pro 12.9 in the UK is £1249 which is a fair chunk of money, you can pickup a base spec Macbook Air M1 for £250 less.

I don't see where the iPad lineup is going? in 2 years time we will have the M3 chip?

As soon as the M1 IPad pro becomes available on the refurb store, you would have to be mad to spend the extra money on the M2 brand new.

This seems to be a legitimate point, until we realize it also means that Apple is forgetting its current customers who are loyal and supportive, and have been eagerly looking forward to meaningful upgrades.
Is there anything, literally anything, the M1-chip can't do hardware-wise in current iPad Pros from 2021? I mean this chip powers some of the most powerful and power-efficient laptops on the market.
That iPadOS doesn't fully take advantage of everything the chip is capable of is another matter, but what logical reason is there to upgrade year over year if the device you're using isn't lacking in features or pure horse power?

If it was up to me, they could update iPad Pro every two years and bring the cost down every year in-between to make the device more accessible. Then they wouldn't have to produce videos with features like "up to +15% more GPU-speed (under certain conditions that 90% of iPad Pro customers will never meet or even get close to in their daily lives)" but feature tangible performance improvements during everyday use.

Best regards,
VSG

Apple are so bloomin stubborn!!

Apple Devs to Apple Execs: “should we not now introduce MiniLED to the 11, it will no doubt sell bucket loads, everyone has been asking for it”

All Apple Execs: “no”

Apple Devs: “But…”

I’m wondering if Apple is planning to release a new iPad Pro in the spring of 2023. Both 4th gen and 5th gen iPad pros were released early in the year rather than September. I think this was just an incremental update to get the M2 into the Pro lineup. I her we’ll see a new a iPad Pro with wireless charging, new front facing camera, dynamic island, etc this spring.

I… wasn’t suggesting that at all?
The other guy was excusing the lack of updates saying apple is working towards these iPads being capable of running a desktop class OS. And I replied they are already WAY capable of that

What that looks like is another discussion. I just referenced ability only.
But it’s not. Not unless macOS becomes Windows 8. It can’t run a desktop OS without making screen elements bigger.

This has been happening almost since the iPad was released. We all consider the power of it and think ok NOW soon they’ll release something big to take advantage of it. Probably since the first pro model. The iPad is a tablet that they stuff with an overpowered everything, but don’t give it software to take advantage of it. And I say this as someone who absolutely loves his iPad Pro (2020 11”). It’s kind of silly, they seem to have some “plan” but it never gets actualized.

Yeah I mean again, I only stated that these chips CAN run a desktop class OS. What that looks like is another discussion, but sure I’ll engage

I run Teamviewer from my 11” 2020 pro in touch mode to both my Mac and a couple windows PCs. And it works just fine. No increased sizing, no issues. There are even black bars on top and bottom, and I have zero problem using it in a 1080p format. None. I have the Apple Pencil, but sometimes even use my fingers and it’s totally fine. I can open windows, files, close things, drag and drop, start menu, right click etc. It’s flawless and easy to see it all. And this is on an 11. I can only imagine how much easier it would be on the 12.9 one.

Even my 2016 MacBook barely has a screen bigger than this and runs the full macOS just fine.

The only reason, and only reason it could be, is that they don’t want to eat into Mac sales. Which is fine, I love this iPad and use it literally every day probably as much as my work Mac. But you’re kidding yourself if you don’t think it could run full macOS. Both in power and visibility, with no changes needed to icon sizes.

Your use case doesn’t mean everyone’s. I have also attempted what you said. I have big fingers and it’s not a good experience. Windows 10/11 are the same on the tablets. There is never a good UI that works across the board. Windows 8 was great on tablets, horrible on computers.

Fanboys have a way of seeing things differently. I think some people call it a reality distortion field. ;)

Seriously, for someone like my parents or anyone who doesn’t spend all day on MR, it’s a confusing mess.

Not a fanboy at all. Sure, if we take our parents its confusing but thats because they have no need for anything but the basic iPad. Not the best demographic to use.

Anyway, you want more options in sizes, I think we could do with less.

Mini, 11" & 13" and thats it. Eventually, mini will disappear as the current trend of big phones is replacing it.

I want a bigger option, but that doesn’t mean I want more complexity. If it were up to me, I’d have iPad (10” and 12”) and iPad Pro (12” and 14”) and that’s it.

The new M2 iPad Pro, despite having been released over a year since the last model, appears to feature the same display and camera hardware as the previous generation iPad Pro introduced in April 2021.

iPad-Pro-M2.jpg

Starting with the 12.9-inch iPad Pro, the new sixth-generation model includes the exact same display hardware as last year's model, according to the compare sheet on Apple's website. Both models feature a Liquid Retina XDR display with a 2732-by-2048 resolution at 264ppi (pixels-per-inch) with support for ProMotion, True Tone, wide color, and more.

The only notable difference between the two models is the addition of hover support on Apple Pencil, a new feature coming to the M2 iPad Pro.

Regarding the 11-inch iPad Pro, the iPad still does not feature a mini-LED display like the 12.9-inch model. Instead, like last year's model, the fourth-generation 11-inch iPad Pro with M2 has a Liquid Retina display with a 2388-by-1668 resolution at 264ppi, ProMotion, wide color, and True Tone. The new model supports the same 600 nits of peak brightness as the 2021 model.

For the cameras on the 11-inch and 12.9-inch sizes, there also appear to be no hardware changes. Both models feature a 12MP Wide camera with a ƒ/1.8 aperture and a 10MP Ultra Wide camera with a ƒ/2.4 aperture. The new models, do, however, support ProRes video recording at up to 4k at 60fps, previously not possible on the ‌iPad Pro‌, though this upgrade is likely due to the increased capabilities of the M2 chip rather than changes to camera hardware.

Does this mean that all of the cases for the 2021 IPP will fit the 2022 IPP?
