We don’t want another Windows 8 fiasco. Making everything bigger so you can touch it made Windows 8 bad. They already can support a proper desktop OS. Gimme a break. Have been for years now.
I was somehow able to use a “proper desktop OS” back in 2002, not an M1 or 2 chip to be found anywhere. Even the A12X could run any OS you could throw at it today. This iPad update is silly and is not an update
I guess we remain shackled to a portrait oriented camera location for video calls, they should have at least gone to landscape orientation on the 12.9 model. Lots of "experts" were predicting they would finally cure that patent defect. too much trouble I guess. This is one of the smallest upgrades I can remember for an iPad.
The oddity is that they did it on the entry level iPad. Are they saying "pros" prefer portrait mode?I guess we remain shackled to a portrait oriented camera location for video calls, they should have at least gone to landscape orientation on the 12.9 model. Or people with a very old iPod who have been waiting to update? Are we forgetting that new customers will benefit from any improvement to the product?
Agreed. This is the year that ideas have run out, or that things have gotten so good that there is nowhere to go for the next few years. One of the most pointless updates you will find. So yeah anybody with M1 will not upgrade

Personally, I would have liked to see Apple introduce a thinner, larger iPad Pro… 12” and 14”, keep the M1, bump up the storage, and keep everything else the same including the 11” and 13” price points. And what would make you happy? Right now there is nothing to take advantage of that M1 chip let alone M2 chip.
Until Apple comes up with a software solution than we will be getting insane amount of power that will be untapped.

But that would take some engineering prowess. Unfortunately, all their engineers are too busy boycotting the return to office policy and being “productive” WFH.
I… wasn’t suggesting that at all?We don’t want another Windows 8 fiasco. Making everything bigger so you can touch it made Windows 8 bad.
Honestly wtf were they doing for a year and a half ? They stuck an m2 in and called it a day. No MagSafe, no camera updates. DO SOMETHING!Yet another unimaginative upgrade. Apple is getting very boring, I wonder how long they can get away with it.
Apple has no more messaging. It’s been the same for iPad for years with very little new from apple. The biggest news out of today was that Davinci Resolve and Affinity Publisher are coming to ipad. Glad others are stepping up where companies like apple and Adobe are snoring…The oddity is that they did it on the entry level iPad. Are they saying "pros" prefer portrait mode?
I had forced myself to forget that thing. At least they kept the 2 around at a lower price, lol. You’re forgetting the iPad Mini 2 to 3.
I‘d say new customers would benefit the most by buying a discounted 2021 iPad Pro …Are we forgetting that new customers will benefit from any improvement to the product?
Why does your M1 iPad Pro need replacing already?I was looking for a reason to replace my M1 iPad Pro and this ain’t it. A faster processor and WiFi is pretty much it. Does the new modem do 5G UWB or just regular 5G?
If they can’t do thinner, just find a way to keep the weight down.Well, thinner is challenging because of the fragility. We would probably have to say goodbye to aluminium and introduce stronger material. Most likely would be more expensive.
As for size, well, we already have a good selection so maybe another version 15" could be for specific audience but would it be worth it is another matter.
