They already can support a proper desktop OS. Gimme a break. Have been for years now.
I was somehow able to use a “proper desktop OS” back in 2002, not an M1 or 2 chip to be found anywhere. Even the A12X could run any OS you could throw at it today. This iPad update is silly and is not an update
We don’t want another Windows 8 fiasco. Making everything bigger so you can touch it made Windows 8 bad.

This is one of the smallest upgrades I can remember for an iPad.
I guess we remain shackled to a portrait oriented camera location for video calls, they should have at least gone to landscape orientation on the 12.9 model. Lots of "experts" were predicting they would finally cure that patent defect. too much trouble I guess.

The oddity is that they did it on the entry level iPad. Are they saying "pros" prefer portrait mode?

Not much of an upgrade, but I will trade my 2021 iPad 11" M1 for a 12.9". I'm going for the larger screen vs the specs.

And what would make you happy? Right now there is nothing to take advantage of that M1 chip let alone M2 chip.
Until Apple comes up with a software solution than we will be getting insane amount of power that will be untapped.
Personally, I would have liked to see Apple introduce a thinner, larger iPad Pro… 12” and 14”, keep the M1, bump up the storage, and keep everything else the same including the 11” and 13” price points.

But that would take some engineering prowess. Unfortunately, all their engineers are too busy boycotting the return to office policy and being “productive” WFH.

Well, this was disappointing. Only a speed bump from M1 to M2, same display, same camera.
The only real upgrade here is the price of the M2! The 256 cellular M1 is €1179 but the 256 cellular M2 is €1399. which is practically the same iPad. So this means I have to get myself and lovely 2021 M1 model and save myself some money!

Well, thinner is challenging because of the fragility. We would probably have to say goodbye to aluminium and introduce stronger material. Most likely would be more expensive.

As for size, well, we already have a good selection so maybe another version 15" could be for specific audience but would it be worth it is another matter.

I… wasn’t suggesting that at all?
The other guy was excusing the lack of updates saying apple is working towards these iPads being capable of running a desktop class OS. And I replied they are already WAY capable of that

What that looks like is another discussion. I just referenced ability only.

Apple has no more messaging. It’s been the same for iPad for years with very little new from apple. The biggest news out of today was that Davinci Resolve and Affinity Publisher are coming to ipad. Glad others are stepping up where companies like apple and Adobe are snoring…

I think I’m finally going to upgrade my 9.7 pro to this. I’ll get it from Best Buy, between rewards and gift cards, it will be cheaper.

If they can’t do thinner, just find a way to keep the weight down.

“Good selection”? You’re too kind. More like confusing as all hell. Let’s see… 9.7”, 10.9”, 10.9”, 11.1”, 12.9”… 3 out of the 5 models in their lineup have the same size display!

I wrote to Apple asking for landscape camera on iPad pro

Probably losing my time, but more chance someone reads it I suppose...
