They can't even ship MBP's in a timely fashion currently due to China lockdowns. I doubt LH, they'd be able to successfully release an updated MacBook Air w/M2 at this time.

I think it's going to be software focused and if you're lucky, maybe a couple more pride bands but that's about it for the time being. June 6th, we'll know for sure!

But but but...twitter account KUO said the next Macbook air will come with M1
I think Kuo retired from this, and his child made a twitter account and tried to do his father leaks but without any real background and sources :)
There are several theories on how both could be correct. It seems that the M2 is really going to be just a slightly tweaked M1 with the same production process rather than the next gen cores and production process people originally thought it was going to be. Remember Apple can name it whatever they want.

Sorry, software only. Must we every year with this?
This simply is not true. They don’t always demo hardware but they have several times in the past. Coincidentally, almost all the instances of hardware reveals at WWDC have been related to the “pro” product lines.

I would say there is almost no chance a new MacBook Air is revealed at WWDC 2022. It will be a reveal for the Mac Pro w/ Apple Silicon if they have hardware at all.

Agreed. A true M2 would be based of the new core architecture, not an incremental upgrade.

Hardware was released mostly due to the fact that in the past Apple revealed important stuff in either Macworld or WWDC. However, after leaving Macworld, Apple has now press events like the iPhone/Watch in September timeframe and Mac events in October timeframe.

I decided not to wait and ordered a MBP 14" that I received yesterday. I think if the MBA is going to be introduced it isn't going to be with the true M2 process people originally thought and it looks more and more like it will have the white/light gray keys and bezels and possibly a notch that I'm not fond of. If it does turn out to be a window I got a 90 return policy since I purchased it through Costco! :)

Apple may unveil new Mac hardware at WWDC this year, with the redesigned MacBook Air being the most likely potential hardware announcement, according to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman.

In today's "Power On" newsletter, Gurman explained his expectations for potential Apple hardware announcements at this year's Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC).

Signs of "realityOS," the long-rumored operating system believed to run on Apple's mixed-reality headset, were spotted in Apple source code earlier this year and there has been growing enthusiasm about Apple's AR and VR project finally "approaching liftoff" for launch this year. Rumors of Apple announcing its headset sooner rather than later were stoked earlier today when a trademark for "realityOS" surfaced, with a foreign filing date deadline of June 8, 2022, just two days after the main WWDC keynote. Despite these rumors, Gurman is wary of "a full-blown" announcement of Apple's headset at WWDC:Gurman previously reported that the launch of the headset will likely be delayed until 2023 following a plethora of development problems, including issues with overheating from at least one chip on par with the M1 Pro, as well as camera and software challenges.

Mac-related announcements are reportedly more likely at WWDC this year, should Apple unveil any new hardware, according to Gurman. He believes that Apple planned to launch a new MacBook Air model with the M2 chip at WWDC this year, but supply chain issues seem to have complicated the timeline:Beyond any potential hardware announcements, major new software updates for Apple's devices, including iOS 16, iPadOS 16, watchOS 9, tvOS 16, and macOS 13, are expected to be previewed at WWDC on Monday, June 6.

Apple has revealed hardware at WWDC 4 or maybe 5 times in the last decade…

I don’t know why people regurgitate this line as a truism that is simply not universal. Apple does not always reveal hardware at WWDC but it is not uncommon for Apple to do so. When they do reveal hardware at WWDC, it is almost always a “pro” product.

I’m sorry but the notch will be staying. Apple added the notch on the recent MacBook 💻 Pro 14”, 16” line up and it doesn’t even have the Face-ID. I guess Apple loves the notch.

Would you prefer the pill-shape factor on a MacBook?

A notch on the MacBook Pro gets a pass since it disappears into the black bezels and menu.

I don’t mind a MacBook Air with white borders.
But not sure I can stomach a white notch that stick out all the time.

Not always, and I am not talking about the last decade. I am talking since early 2000s.

I hope the new MacBook Air does not have a white keyboard. You can wash your hands until your fingerprints are eradicated, and damn white keys will still end up filthy.

Agreed

Some time ago, I might have felt that Apple would have some great materials solution to this, but alas, folks with lighter colored AirPods Max bands and ear cups are frequently discussing "how to clean them".

A think a white laptop keyboard will get nasty

False.
Apple left MacWorld in 09.
Since then they announced the iPhone 4 at WWDC 2010, the IvyBridge MacBook Air and Macbook pros at WWDC 2012, the Haswell MacBook Air and trashcan MacPro at wwdc 2013, a spec bumped MacBook Air, MacBook Pro, iMac, iPad Pro + the iMac Pro and HomePod At WWDC2017, The 2019 Mac Pro and Pro Display XDR at WWDC 2019, and The Apple Silicon transition and developer transition kit at WWDC 2020.

Explain the 2012 MacBook Air, the 2013 MacBook Air, and the 2017 MacBook Air, all introduced at WWDC.
Also explained the laptop Apple filed in the Eurasian economic database back in February. Apple doesn’t file things in there unless their release is within a quarter or two, certainly not 9 months later as you’re suggesting

They can’t even ship last years Pro before August. Why would they announce a new Air with orders they probably can’t fulfill
Its possible that that they moved some of the production of the m1 to m2(or whatever they call it) so they can start building up supply... but yeah generally it seems like hardware they announce at wwdc is usually either in a new category to get developers interested in supporting it, or its hardware developers would be interested in. Don't really feel like a new Air would fall into those categories.

I know it's unlikely, but I am dreaming about a silent upgrade to the CPU of the Intel Mac Pro… just do it without big announcement, as a silent update to the store (like with the GPU/SSD after the last event). Call it fan service to the pro community that needs both Windows and macOS on a computer.
