Sounds good to me. Actually very excited for the new MBA and it could be the first time I've considered a MacBook Air in a while.

I honestly don't care at all about a VR headset.

I know it's unlikely, but I am dreaming about a silent upgrade to the CPU of the Intel Mac Pro… just do it without big announcement, as a silent update to the store (like with the GPU/SSD after the last event). Call it fan service to the pro community that needs both Windows and macOS on a computer.

I don't think that's as crazy as some might

I wouldn't be surprised, at all, if they keep the Intel MacPro going a lot longer than some others might expect.

I wouldn't be surprised if they kept it going alongside a newer AS MacPro also -- just to have an Intel compatibility option for those who need it (MP buyers are a likely candidate there)

Sorry, software only. Must we every year with this?

It is not unknown and that aside times are different. With COVID release schedules are all over the place for Apple and many others. So they may well announce new hardware, probably not for immediate release though is my guess.

As spotted by Consomac, Apple has registered three new Macs in the Eurasian regulatory database. The new model numbers are A2615, A2686, and A2681. One of these models is described as a laptop.”
This was back in February, and we got the two desktops.
Doesn’t take a genius to know what the laptop is, and it also doesn’t take a genius to realize that Apple wouldn’t file something in that database if they didn’t plan to release it until October.
They filed all of these at the same time as the 2022 iPad Air and iPhone SE.

The best place to announce AR/VR goggles is at this developer event. Announce realityOS.

They showed it to the board. Cook could come out wearing the goggles. ?

That would make sense, as Tim definitely lives in a different reality than most all of us

I'd love to see a new Mac mini, but I'm not expecting. Perhaps fall 2022 or else spring 2023.

When they do reveal hardware at WWDC, it is almost always a “pro” product.
That is overstating it. My iMac and 12" MacBook were both announced at WWDC. HomePod was also announced at WWDC.

They've sometimes registered items there 6 months in advance.

EXACTLY. Every year it's the same thing.
Right on brother.
Apart from...
  • 2006 Mac Pro,
  • 2009 MacBook Pros and iPhone 3GS,
  • 2010 iPhone 4
  • 2012 Retina MacBook Pros, Macbook Air
  • 2013 Mac Pro and MacBook Air,
  • 2017 iMac, iMac Pro, MacBook, MacBook Pro and iPad Pro,
  • 2019 new MacPro and Pro display XDR,
  • 2020 DTK system,
....when have Apple ever announced hardware at WWDC?

I mean, it's not as if we're expecting a new and overdue Mac Pro announcement which Apple have already hinted is coming - or that the last 3 versions of the Mac Pro (plus the iMac Pro) have all been announced at WWDC.

Best you can say is that there was a long, dry spell between 2013 and 2017 at which no hardware was announced at WWDC (and ISTR those were pretty dry years for new Macs in general).

We're not talking about the World Wide Developers Conference and virtual seminars on the nuts and bolts of MacOS/iOS programming here - we're talking about the WWDC keynote which is one of ~4 annual press jamborees for Apple. If they have stuff ready to announce, they'll announce it.

If they don't announce hardware (which is quite possible) - it will be because they're not ready to announce it, not because of some counter-factual "we don't talk about hardware in the WWDC keynote" rule.

Zero chance Of m2 air.

Mac Pro and maybe pro display update. At most.

these rumors are getting dumber and dumber.
I would not be surprised at all by a Mac Pro with M2x as that seems a more logical way to announce next gen Apple Silicon. I'm having trouble deciding what would be a better move strategically--a brand new design of their most popular Mac or a brand new line of Apple Silicon. For a developer conference, the 2nd one makes more sense to me.

Remember those Mac mini developer units with A chips in them? I think that was my favorite one--got me really excited for the future.

We won’t see an M2 device until late fall 2022. In fact, I wouldn’t surprised if Apple waits until all Macs are on an M1 generation. With the Apple silicon Mac Pro looming, which will come with a M1 Ultra Pro and M1 Ultra Max, it would be awkward to introduce M2 while still pushing M1.

I know WWDC is a software event, but it's for developers so I would more happily bet on the MacPro (and last of the M1 family) being announced than anything M2.

Tend to disagree. While hardware announcements at WWDC are not usual, they can still happen. We last got the Mac Pro and PDXDR at WWDC.

I personally wouldn't expect the M2 to be announced such quickly, but rather they will finally unveil the M1 powered Mac Pros. I've said it before - doesn't make sense to announce the M2 first, and then M1 powered Mac Pro.

Plus, the fact they're bringing people to Apple Park to watch the event (even digital one), could mean they will later let them play with the new hardware and explore it.
