Since the departure of Jobs, Cook has been driving the company to maximise profit gains, rather than pushing innovation and fresh technology. This has allowed Cook for some time, the use the company name and the foundation which Jobs has established, to leverage its following to continue to purchase and hope for that product magic Jobs was only able to curate and provide.
I believe it’s been long overdue for Cook to step off and bring back Apple to its root, to think and innovate differently. What goes up, must come down. Lest Apple can pull off some magic with new hardware, I can’t fathom how much longer AppleHeads are going to continue to support Apples current sub-par hardware specification, just to tout that they have the “latest & greatest”.
Apple has remained laser focussed, the Mac has grown to 20% market share while Windows innovation has gone all over the place and is dropping market share for a decade. While on the hardware side Intel hasn’t been able to keep up with Apple. The Mac lineup is in a great place, the best in many years.

Yes, there are no magic innovations, but what would you expect for a device that has been around for over 40 years? You want more colours? More ports? A touch screen?

You mean +$200.
No.

$200 is already the price it costs today to go from 8 to 16GB, it wouldn't change anything regarding the current situation.
They are extremely pricey with those RAM and SSD upgrades, and they give us very little RAM and storage so we feel obliged to buy more.

It's hard for me to tell how much RAM upgrades are worth on an SoC, I don't have any reference.
But we do have a lot of references with top of the line SSDs such as the Samsung 980 Pro and we know Apple charges just about 4 times the price we consumers can get if we buy just a single unit on Amazon. Apple has much better prices than us, thanks to volume. And of course, they restrict the hardware just to make really sure we can't upgrade the original SSD to another one.

There are countless other "influencers" who have the same consistently positive reviews of products, yet she is the one who gets targeted the most by people with negative comments. I wonder why.
Let’s call it misogyny. This way we can talk about gender and completely ignore the merits of the criticism of her "reviews".

Do you have evidence for that? There are many of us who could work with a basic product only to see it stifled by poor connectivity. It happens all the time, same as with the 8/256 Gb issue. Apple know that many will then buy the next model up and take the hit. It costs next to nothing to add a few more ports.

To me, the concept of an all-in-one computer is that it should contain almost everything you need. You're not supposed to connect anything to it!

The attraction to me with iMacs was only one cable and looking good in a living room, kitchen or any open area.

If that's what you want to call it, go ahead. I'm just wondering why her reviews are singled out so much compared to other influencers with very similar track records.

It would change the current situation completely by taking away the most popular 8GB entry level option. For customers and Apple alike the whole pricing structure would change with a new minimum RAM configuration.

Aren’t you in control of your own feelings? Be a stoic, don’t get manipulated by flashy colors, sounds and bigger numbers!

Do you mean how obscenely high Apple’s profit margins on those upgrades are? Almost ~100%.

So write your representative to make laws to forbid the obstruction of user upgrades! You live in a democracy, don’t you?

I will counter that the chief reason for this impression is because Apple views and defines innovation very differently from the rest of the competition.

Many companies try to equate innovation with being first. We see it with companies like Samsung, who tried made a very big splash with their folding phone, and in the process, attempted to argue that they were innovative by being the first to market with such a product. Fast forward 4-5 years later, and while the folding phone concept has made respectable improvements, it's still pretty much a niche product category. I will liken it more to the S6's curved screen, rather than the larger displays pioneered by the galaxy note lineup.

I don't need this sort of mentality from Apple, not do I want it. You are releasing new features simply to look and sound good in tech reviews.

Meanwhile, we see Apple's definition of innovation in the form of features like their satellite calling feature in the latest iPhones. A seemingly innocuous feature that leverages on custom hardware, software and Apple's deep pockets to bankroll an entire satellite company (all Apple's traditional strengths), and which has already been credited with saving lives.

This is what I view as meaningful innovation. And this is why contrary to the numerous criticisms levelled at Apple, I believe that Apple will continue to succeed and prosper for a good many more years to come. Because the manner in which they define and implement their unique take on "innovation" is resonating with so many amongst their user base.

Proof that words no longer equate to definition. It will only be a matter of time until a better company, focusing on quality, innovation and customer experience will reign supremacy and Apple will be synonymous with just another tech company, like Samsung or Hynix. I will gladly take Apple seriously on those described merits during Jobs tenure, rather than now, while Cook is in charge. You can defend it however you want, but the general consensus is that current Apple is a far-cry of what is used to be l, touted for those mentioned qualities.

I call it a gimmick. I am never anywhere near to such a remote place, where I could contact a satellite with an iPhone Pro, I won’t buy anyway. Absolutely useless feature for bored rich people to play with on their yachts.

Apple’s true innovative power is in controlling their own platform. Samsung can’t make foldable screens a new standard on Android and therefore the feature will always have to justify its price versus cheaper phones even from the same manufacturer. Apple on the other hand can introduce a Neural Engine to all their A and M-series chips and whether you want to pay for it or not, it’s a standard sub processor for a range of new applications. Same with Ray Tracing or E-cores or anything. Apple can push any standard, technology or transition and millions of customers are going to become users.

I was really on the fence when it came to the M3 iMac but I decided to pull the trigger today. I got the 10 core GPU with 512 SSD and 16GB. I figure we are in Apple extended return policy so if I truly do not like it I have plenty of time test it out. I have been an iMac user since 2004 it has really served me well as my at home computer. I am use to the 27 inch model so it would have been nice if that was available. I guess they are selling okay my delivery date got pushed to November 28th.

You won't be disappointed. It's quick and silent operation are a joy which can't be described to someone who hasn't experienced it themself. I promises you, you will fall in love with your new iMac once you give it a cute name. 🥰 🖥️

That's such an easy way of trying to disregard other's opinions. There are countless mostly positive but far more serious female YouTube reviewers, for example Sara Dietschy https://www.youtube.com/@saradietschy that are wonderful. I stick to my point that iJustine delivers the most simplistic, cursory, and non-critical "reviews" of tech among any of the most common, popular, YouTube tech reviewers... implying my opinion doesn't count or is in some way misogynistic is just offensive.

I used to love the iMac, having previously owned a 2013 27” imac. However since Apple ousted intel in favour of there own chips.

The iMac has lost it zest, the power is medicore, with to few customisation’s, with only the option to select one display size.

I am now using a 2021 macbook pro m1 max, which has more power than the current m3 iMac.

Lets face it Apple has killed off, its all in one computer in favour of the studio.

So, in an attempt to disprove what I said you cite a completely irrelevant article to the topic at hand? Rofl.
I think you are confused, I said they wouldn’t get free stuff from Apple. Then you said this…

Actually they get nothing free from Apple. What they get are review units and after a certain period they have to return them.
And then I sent you an article talking about free stuff Apple sent a YouTuber, I think you need to look up what irrelevant means. You mentioned review units, I did not.

This was an article on the new Macs. Saying "they won't get free stuff" in about an article in which new Macs are being discussed leads to one conclusion - that Apple is giving the new Macs to reviewers/influencers for free. This conclusion isn't new btw. It happens every single time here on MacRumors when Apple is about to release a new product and sends prerelease review units out.

The discussion wasn't about gift boxes with candy and snacks in it and you know it.

The post that I made was about YouTubers getting free stuff and not giving new machines an honest review in fear that they would stop getting those boxes. You keep going on and wanting to argue for some reason. YouTubers get review devices, they have to send those back I get that. They also get free snack boxes with $700 headphones that they don’t send back. They continue to get those boxes as long as they play nice with Apple. Again, not sure why you continue to argue.

Other than the improvements the new M3 chip brings, nothing else has changed. No reason to upgrade from M1 iMac.
