With 8 Gig of memory in the base model. An additional 8 Gig will be $300.00.

Start the whining.

Mmm, no thanks. I need more ports, and the size was never all that important.

I have to have my keyboard plugged into one of the two USB-A ports because otherwise it doesn't work on the boot/login screen with a hub. I need to have an external SSD, because Apple soldered the SSD. I need an external HDD, because Apple removed the internal SATA slot. I need some external USB-C speakers because my Monitor's speakers are garbage, and I usually have my TM drive plugged into the other USB-A slot. That leaves *one* USB-C port for anything else I want to plug in, which usually ends up being this garbage USB hub where one of the USB ports don't work.

Considering the borked HDMI port on the 2018s, you'll probably want to opt for DP (USB-C) monitor connection.

I am interested in a new M4 and M4 Pro models of the Mac mini! Sounds very good to me. A redesign would be nice, but I hope they keep many Thunderbolt ports. I am hoping for the new 80 Gb/sec Thunderbolt 5 port support. That would be a really nice treat to us from Apple!

I’m sure that was the very top complaint about the Mac mini … its size. ?!?

Honestly couldn’t make it up.

I would have thought more people would care about a) ports & connectivity and b) timely updates to mini line , not stagnation like what seems to keep happening to both iMac and mini line.

But no … it’s to reduce its size.
The top complaint and the reason why very few purchased it was likely “It’s not mobile, do you have something with a screen and a keyboard that’s all in one and I can take anywhere with me?” :)

Mac Mini the size of AppleTV maybe slightly larger and portable desktop with slim portable 720p monitor would make me just absolutely insanely tickled. Hell, use iPad 13 as a monitor?

TBH I'd rather keep it the same size, and maybe expand the ports. (like add a second HDMI for a second monitor to free up the other thunderbolts for other things...)
even if that happens, next gen you will say to add more more more
nobody will be happy

How did we get back on the "thinner" train again? And especially for a DESKTOP computer?

If this rumor proves true, I hope it is great. History says too much "thinner" brings compromises... and not lower prices. Heat issues? Throttling? HDMI port goodbye? Ethernet port goodbye? USB-A goodbye? Power brick ejected to an external? Less Thunderbolt ports?

AppleTV size is cute (and I love AppleTV as a product) but there's little room on there for typical Mac Mini ports. If you have one, have a look and try to figure out where about 4 Thunderbolt ports and 2 USB-A ports would fit... without being crammed too close together so you can't actually use the ports with multiple attachments at the same time.

The stiff HDMI cables will prevent the machine from sitting on the desk. Can’t wait to see all the cables that will be around the machine.

Hooray - someone gets it!!! Just because they can make it smaller doesn't mean that it should. If I needed something pocket size, and didn't need Ethernet and a bunch of USB I'd get an iPad.

Maybe they could squeeze 3-4 USB-C as well as Ethernet and HDMI... maybe they'd even keep the internal power supply... but unless they make the case from depleted uranium it's going to be dragged around by all of those cables. That's my experience with the Apple TV, and with Raspberry Pis (which get a free pass for costing under a hundred bucks).

To be fair, I have found solutions and I guess Apple could offer a $20 blob of blu-tack (or a self-adhesive velcro strip if they wanted to be classy) as an optional extra...

ipad are clearly not pocket size...even larger than the current mac mini in dimensions but height
soon not even the iphones will be pocket size
I guess in their testing Apple saw this, its impossible when you try this on your lab for a year/years not to be confronted with this simple issue...so it will get some weight to it, heavier than apple tv for sure

Would be probably just a little better than what I grew up with...

Flipping that tape constantly and waiting forever when playing Forbidden Forrest. Good ol days!

Some actually have "created" such a Mac already, by buying a MB with damaged lid and removing the lid "half." Bonus: the battery still works so it can go mobile too. Hook it to any monitor/TV or let Vpro or similar be the on the go screen. All that works just fine.

My own ultimate "laptop replacement" would be just such a lidless Mac, that direct links to Vpro with plenty of battery to power Vpro and a wired ability to display the Vpro view (so that multiple monitors would work just fine, because this Mac would be doing the heavy lifting of creating the display). Bottom half MB + Vpro in a variation of a traditional laptop bag.

Will that come? I don't know. But I'd at least be interested... more so than even a 17" MB when one has had the experience of working in complete privacy on the 100 inch virtual MB. Even 16"-17" inch physical screens feel cramped/puny. If it doesn't come, I'm tempted to do like the above and buy a broken-lid MB to make my own... but I'd love "the rest" of the idea too, where the internal battery can power BOTH and thus buy much more screen time in Vpro for longer-than-3-hour flights AND also that ability to create the display within the Mac so that the limitation of one display is no longer a limitation.
