Exactly. Especially if they are going to be removing more ports. I use almost all the ports on my current minis, USB-A, ethernet, HDMI, line out, plus a couple external USB-C drives, etc.. If they are removing more ports and making it smaller, it doesn't help the situation at all, I'll just have to buy more docks to hook up to it to make it usable.
I do miss the days of a consumer mac desktop that you can open up and add drives, more ports and other stuff. My desk is just a mess of cables and docks now.
I'm sure you can get a solid deal on a 2019 Mac Pro somewhere.

The old days are never coming back.

I would get one today! Love my Mac mini but size of an Apple TV open all sorts of new use for me with M4pro on the go with some Xreal glasses etc … bring it on Apple !

Wrong...the rumor cleary says it will have M4 and M4 Pro...while M4 family it clearly consume less power than M2 family , it still needs fan, not as big as the current mini but still.

Could even be a solid state fan if the power dissipation is low enough.

I have a 2019 Intel i7 3.2 GHz Mini running a bunch of security cameras and home automation software that uses a lot of power and generating lots of heat 24/7. Looking forward to the M4 Mini needing far less power.

I've heard this before...
Yep, me too!

I hope it comes in colors.

When I read smaller, I think fewer ports on the back which would be bad.
Think back to the AirPort Extreme base station. More of a tower, plenty of Ethernet ports for its purpose. 3x USB-C+ HDMI +figure 8 power socket would suit such a design, so it then becomes more of an issue how things are laid out on the board and how it’s mounted inside as to whether it’s possible.
