and its crazy...if we think how macs timeline were with IntelNewest chips in the laptops each year, and the desktops every other year appears to be the Apple approach to AS.
I'm sure you can get a solid deal on a 2019 Mac Pro somewhere.Exactly. Especially if they are going to be removing more ports. I use almost all the ports on my current minis, USB-A, ethernet, HDMI, line out, plus a couple external USB-C drives, etc.. If they are removing more ports and making it smaller, it doesn't help the situation at all, I'll just have to buy more docks to hook up to it to make it usable.
I do miss the days of a consumer mac desktop that you can open up and add drives, more ports and other stuff. My desk is just a mess of cables and docks now.
If only it supported targeted display mode.Hmmmm.... now I have to consider turning the 2019 iMac into a studio display.
Of course it will run macOS or it wouldn’t be a Mac miniI don't know how I feel about that…
Hopefully it will still run macOS.
The Minis I have used (and still use) have been stellar capable machines.
Wrong...the rumor cleary says it will have M4 and M4 Pro...while M4 family it clearly consume less power than M2 family , it still needs fan, not as big as the current mini but still.
But you no longer need an optical drive, a hard drive, and two memory modules - all of which goverened the size of the original Mac mini. What real advantage is there to it being smaller? You still need monitor, keyboard etc.
That would be really sweet. At least, as an expansion module. But I’m afraid that’s not Apple’s philosophy. At least give us a slot for nvme storage
lets not forget also the big fan for the Intel chipsBut you no longer need an optical drive, a hard drive, and two memory modules - all of which goverened the size of the original Mac mini.
Think back to the AirPort Extreme base station. More of a tower, plenty of Ethernet ports for its purpose. 3x USB-C+ HDMI +figure 8 power socket would suit such a design, so it then becomes more of an issue how things are laid out on the board and how it’s mounted inside as to whether it’s possible. When I read smaller, I think fewer ports on the back which would be bad.
