Hmmmm.... now I have to consider turning the 2019 iMac into a studio display.
and its crazy...if we think how macs timeline were with Intel
I'm sure you can get a solid deal on a 2019 Mac Pro somewhere.

The fact that the M2 TDP is around 23W and the M4 is around 15W while performing a lot better...its crazy

I have a 2019 Intel i7 3.2 GHz Mini running a bunch of security cameras and home automation software that uses a lot of power and generating lots of heat 24/7. Looking forward to the M4 Mini needing far less power.
Assuming Apple keeps the HDMI and Ethernet ports, as well as keeping the PSU internal, then this should be fine.
And really the current Mini has so much unused space in it from when it was used for Intel CPUs that it definitely has scope to be shrunk.

I'd rather they made a Mac Nano with the M4 and keep the Mac Mini case for the M4 Pro. Keep the same amount of I/O in that one. One of the benefits of a desktop is not needing hubs and I wouldn't want to lose that.
I'd love it if you could power this little machine through the usb-c-port on a monitor, like many people do with their MacBooks.
But you no longer need an optical drive, a hard drive, and two memory modules - all of which goverened the size of the original Mac mini.
That would be really sweet. At least, as an expansion module. But I’m afraid that’s not Apple’s philosophy.

I own Mac mini m2. I love it, but I would love it even more if it becomes even smaller. The closer it gets in size to Bluetooth dongle, the better!

Based on Gurman’s reporting, here’s what we can expect from the M4 Mac release schedule.
- Fall 2024: MacBook Pro, iMac, Mac mini
- Spring 2025: MacBook Air
- Mid-2025: Mac Studio and Mac Pro
I was dead set on getting some new mac minis this year until I read this. Now I will wait and see how bad Apple screws them up.
Thank God, I was just complaining about how big and heavy my Mac Mini is, and how inconvenient it is to have all these ports. Can’t wait for 2 USB-C ports and nothing else on the new model!
Think back to the AirPort Extreme base station. More of a tower, plenty of Ethernet ports for its purpose. 3x USB-C+ HDMI +figure 8 power socket would suit such a design, so it then becomes more of an issue how things are laid out on the board and how it’s mounted inside as to whether it’s possible.
Thermals and ports are the only things I'm worried about in this form factor.
