M3 for sure but I dunno about M2. I’m less inclined to go with M2 because it was released way back in 2022. It’s already nearly half way through its OS update cycle.

Yeah I had assumed M2 since it's Costco and Canada always seems trickier to find MacBook sales than the US. $200 off the M3 is not bad.

Doesn't Apple go by last year sold in Apple Store for OS update cycle?? I am not sure and if you know for sure it would be helpful for a lot of people. Thank you.

OS update cycle varies but the date of Mac release is more important than date of discontinuation.

Repair support depends upon date of discontinuation however.

We haven't seen the first Apple Silicon Macs dropped from OS support yet, so it's difficult to tell if past patterns will hold going forward. Apple could move to a longer support cycle for AS, and there's also the staggered release of the M1 and M1 Pro/ Max computers - will the latter be discontinued at the same time and effectively get a year less support, or will they get an extra year to even it up?

Historically the Macs that come out shortly after a new named OS version is released will usually get longer OS support.

It sure has been quiet around here the last few days. LOL. So what are we thinking now? Maybe a press release on the 3rd?

yeah im thinking next monday/tuesday

if that doesnt happen then who knows when its coming.. wasnt there a rumor mid march 😬

hopefully they dont drag this further then that which is not really necessary for the changes we are getting - no redesign, just internal updates

I too was thinking early March but I’d be OK with anything before July since in Canada the Back-To-School Promotion typically starts June-July.

Apple has student deals going in Australia until 3/14. I suspect that it will be just after that. But really, I think it is also about inventory numbers being right, how many M3 left, and how many M4 ready—and we can only guess.

FWIW, in the past they have occasionally released Macs during those promotions and the new Macs also qualified.

I cannot understand why Apple keeps delaying the release of the M4 Air. Will the price increase due to the tariffs?

Who says it’s delayed? Rumours have long been saying that the M4 MBA release date would be early 2025. Speculation here was somewhere around Feb. to April. It’s still Feb. today.

Will the price increase due to the tariffs?
That’s the million dollar question.

Technically speaking, they should be able to release it when the M4 MacBook Pro and Mini M4 were out last Fall. They chose not to do it.

Delay? It hasn't been announced. It hasn't even been a year since the M3 came out. Not being available as soon as people want it isn't a "delay". Did you know it was more than a year and a half between the release of the M2 and M3 MBA? The iPhone is pretty much the only Apple product that follows a (usually) clockwork 12 month release cycle.

not too confident on them releasing next week now
would they really release the m4 the same week as the m3 was released?

just don't want to be setup for disappointment if nothing happens next week

I am still thinking next week (the week of March 3rd). Press Release March 3rd with release Friday, March 9th. A few weeks ago, Mark Gurman said it was just "weeks" away, with a March release being the latest. There is also the leaked benchmark, which means there are production units out there somewhere. Stock is dwindling in stores (some units in my area are estimating April 7th delivery) and low and behold the Macbook Air M3 release was on March 4, 2024. Good chance it is next week.

The M4 MacBook Air will come out sometime in 2026 based on past releases. If you need a MacBook Air before, then you might want to buy the M3.

  • MacBook Air (M1, 13-inch) - November 10, 2020
  • MacBook Air (M2, 13-inch) - July 15, 2022
  • MacBook Air (M3, 13-inch) - March 4, 2024
