Down here in NYC...

I can browse the store but when I try to download or update it just says "waiting" on the icon... Also won't refresh my avail updates...

Not working in louisiana. Can open, search, etc, but not update or download. Doesn't ask for password. Sits and does nothing. Gives me a grey black icon where the one i tried updating belongs.

Troubleshooting?

Try restarting your Mac computer and open the Mac App Store. The Mac Store should be available now. No sign of Mac OS X Lion, though.

Wasn't connecting a few minutes ago, but now it is. Here in Seattle.

edit: No longer working :/ Hope this means something!

Was down for a while, now is up but when purchasing apps they say waiting. I did notice though that the store doesn't close after making a purchase - this could just be a result of the erratic behavior though. Netflix on the apple tv is also not working today. Stange.

It's down on my iPhone for at least 30 minutes. The app store that is.

This is not an indication of lion, probably just an indication that they are switching to the new data bases... for iCloud, and etc.

Apple is probably uploading Lion and/or plugging in their new servers and it's taking awhile for the new servers to get the data on them. Just because they might be uploading lion, doesn't mean it will be available today.

Also, they could be updating the Mac App Store for Lion with delta upgrades, etc.

Everything is down for me, iTunes, Mac App Store and iPhone/iPad App Store.. Located north of Los Angeles.

Yes, I'm sure that the system most essential for the successful distribution of Lion just happens to be undergoing some maintenance related to something completely different just days before the release of Lion. This is surely the most likely explanation.
