Alot of people only look at the shiny box.....

And yet, we all know what the MacMini is about and what it will be getting inside. In comparison to the major overhaul of the exteriors Apple has been bragging about with the new MacBooks, before that the iMac, one would think that it becomes a matter of company pride to show off what they can do with something as small as the Mini. Hence, the design needs an update.

I think the iMac has been the Mac that's gone through the most radical changes but the Mini is still looking like Generation 1. Get my point?

Would you buy a Ford Card that looks like something from 1975, just cause it's got a new engine and automatic windows and actually pay full price? Times are changing my friend, so should the Mini.

It's not JUST what's inside but what represents the content.

There's nothing wrong with people wanting value for the premiums they pay on apple products but come on. I love Apple but since when did they ever do that? Just about everything always was and still is a lot more expensive in terms if what you receive for it. Why would this update all of a sudden change the spectrum.

There's a difference between the Apple who offered top of the line hardware and new technology at higher prices and the one who is offering core 2 duos with their mainstream desktop computers now and for the next 8 months.

As far as I recall Apple always offered high prices with specs you can get elsewhere for much much cheaper unless you're talking about their highest end products which I doubt are their primary targets.

Im sat here waiting to buy my first Mac and move from PC. Not sure if this is going t be an easy move now. I feel I have no option but to go for a 24" but as I am not sure on the new specs I am a little hesitant ?

I'm in the same position. I'm so tired of being stuck with Windows or Linux and love OS X. However, I'm also not rich and have some pride, so I cannot reward Apple for releasing this outdated hardware. I really think it's absurd. It may be the Hackintosh efforts that force them to offer competing hardware at prices average people can afford and justify paying.

Is it just me or is 24in for the 'mass market' model seem kinda large? I am typing this on my 17in iMac and consider myself to be kind of a power user compared to most people and I just think 24in would be kind of big for even me. Of course I would love a 20in, but I think the 24in is just a little too much for me, but I am sure I could adjust. :p

I did wonder that too, but the 24 is all good; amazing how quickly you get used to it.

Great for watching films on too.

Prior to their Intel switch, they used to argue with spec test proof, that their PowerPC chips were better than Intel's for many professional apps, like Photoshop. That was one reason people could justify paying a bit more. Also, paying a bit more was reasonable, but the gap between what you get with mid-range desktop PCs and what you get for the same price Apple desktop keeps growing. It's one thing to be a some Mhz behind, it's another to be 2 chip updates behind (1st core 2 quads and now the i7's).

I'd pony up $50k for this car with a modern engine and box in a heartbeat:

Is it always like this when a new release is due out. I was looking forward to my first Mac and now I am not so sure. Having spent a few hours in the Apple Store, I am disappointed that I was not told to hang on a week or so.

Here I sit awaiting a machine that most people do not like with the sounds of it.
Am I wasting my money or do I stick with my trusted, but horrible PC.

I am losing faith, fast :(

Bad analogy. Have you seen how ugly Fords of 2009 are? The Flex
Focus and Edge are hideous!

You should have just bought a bloody iMac that suited your needs instead of allowing this place to whip your imagination into a frenzy and expect a huge update.

:D Your right. I was very impressed last week and nearly bought the 20" complete with apple care and a new printer with Mobile Me thrown in. For some reason I hung back and then discovered new ones were due.

Now I am all over the place sat up at gone 3am wondering what the hell to do.

Bloody Forums ;)

Great. I just bought a imac 5 days ago. Free upgrade. :)

Now what do I do with the 4gb ram I just bought? Since the new imacs will have DDR3 at 1066mhz.? I suppose I can hand my still new imac for the new ones, return for a refund or do they do a even exchange with all being equal, price wise. /

Any help would be appreciated.

Well, I think the specs listed are less believable than the new model numbers (even that's not 100% guaranteed to be true). I'd honestly be surprised if they didn't bump at least the high end model to Core 2 quad. Core 2 Duos on a mid-range desktop is just incredibly outdated now, and they'll be offering these models until their next update in 8 months.

Oh yea of little faith. Apple has a long standing policy that if you ordered within a certain time frame before a new machine comes out, then they take care of you. (I forget if they let you return it for a new model, or if they pay you some sort of rebate, or whatever) And in most cases when you order a machine and a new one is coming out within a couple of weeks, then they automatically ship you the new model even though you ordered the old model.
