People are laughing at the Core 2 Duo but really few programs even know what to do with Quad cores, Core 2's are still the norm and we are getting a big bump in memory. I really would like to see a good jump in the graphics card though.

Isn't that the point of Snow Leopard? To take better advantage of multiple cores, as well as GPUs. Also, 2GB more (4GB total) is not a "big bump". It's fairly standard with mid-range PC desktops now.

Bad deal when he bought it five days ago and the new models are the same price as the price at which he bought his.

You're confused bro. I am taking about myself. I bought a imac five days ago. And I saved all the plastic and the tape that holds the box shut. i can package it up like it was never opened. The Apple store adds tax on purchases. Amazon does not. Big difference. I got a new, not refurbished time capsule for 250. US. The imac for 1400.00us. It was 300 and 1500. on Apple's website.

So that is a good deal.

What does his confused bro have to do with anything and what are you taking?

In fairness, they told us it's not a tv or a dead hooker. I'm thinking it's a mac pro + 30" monitor.

What it is is Gizmodo once again trying to get click throughs. They do it all the time. It could be anything.

Dude check out the old New Balance shoes. Clearly that pic is from 1985 and that is a Commodore 128 in the massive wood crate.

I was hoping to be blown away. A bunch more RAM (DDR 3 at that) is enticing but I guess I'll have to wait and really see what the core and graphics card options are for the highest end 24 inch. If the "420" (love the code name apple) has the rumored high end i7 and highest end ati 4000 series gpu I suppose I might be able to talk myself into using my current 1 week old 3.06 ghz imac for my office computer and skip returning and the 10% RSF completely. Yeah, yeah, I DO need a new office computer that's right! :D

Either way cheers to at least some sort of updates released (and on sale) tomorrow!

Why not? Not a big deal if it doesn't. I am not going to pull one over on them. If they ask I will say it was opened. If not, I will not say anything. No big deal

Or, you could just not do it and not waste time.

It won't work, even Apple employees aren't that stupid, especially since they will either ask for the receipt, or return it based on the SKU which won't match, and it's opened and NO ONE should fancy themselves an expert repackager of opened electronics without making themselves the fool.

of course...

I am willing to bet that the new iMac's come out tomorrow, only for the fact that I broke down and bought a macbook on Saturday because our G5 died and we needed something to get my wife and I through the slump.

It's gonna be hard convincing her to get two computers in one CC billing cycle. Wish me luck.

On a positive side note, I am impressed how much I am enjoying the macbook :D

WTF are you talking about?

Why not do it and get a new imac with better specs?

Why wouldn't the SKU match and why wouldn't i give them a SKU? I have my receipt. Man you guys need to read instead of skim through posts. I still have not received a answer to a simple question. Where are you getting this from?

I will just wait and see if they are released and call Apple to get a straight answer or google it.

I bought a imac five days ago. I plan on returning it upon release of the new imacs which is my right given I am within the fourteen day window. I will package it up as new with receipt, if they ask it I opened it, I will tell them yes. If they don't ask, I will not tell them. Nothing underhanded going on here.

Do they let you trade it for a new one less the restocking fee if there is one, or do they let you return the one you bought with a restocking fee, and you purchase a new one. Not a hard question.

How is this confusing?

You should have just bought a bloody iMac that suited your needs instead of allowing this place to whip your imagination into a frenzy and expect a huge update.

Yep, back when everyone expected new iMacs by MacWorld at the latest, I went ahead and got the 20" 2.66. 3 months later, and I'm happier than ever I bought it when I did.

That's one of the many reasons why it's almost always better to order from the Apple store. If you order from the Apple store and new models are coming out soon then they'll almost always delay the order so you can actually receive the new model, even though you ordered the old one.

EDIT: though I haven't heard reports about the mac mini having its shipping times delayed in the past few weeks, so maybe that wouldn't have helped in this case unless you literally ordered it a day or two before the new ones come out.

14 day and 10% restocking fee makes the case to buy anywhere but an Apple store for me. Best Buy is where I purchased my MBA, which gave me 45 days return policy and NO restocking fee. Since once you spend 2k I think it is you become a silver rewards member. Apple has nothing of the sort.

Very cunning. If you pull it off, it's even better than just fooling the Apple employee – it also dupes the next buyer who thinks he is buying a brand new computer but is in fact buying one you've had a good fiddle with.
What a good ruse!
It's already March. So maybe the next buyer will open his "new" machine on April Fool's Day. That would be the icing on the cake.

I think you can get better deals at many places (slightly lower price, cheaper Apple Care, no restocking fees). The only reason to use the Apple store would be to get a refurbished.

The confusion might arise from the fact that you bought it from Amazon. Which, I would assume, means that you must return it to Amazon and not to Apple, from whom you did not purchase the machine.

Nope. He can't win at all. The computer CANNOT be sold as new if it is returned, and since this is the case, they have to open it to put everything in a refurb box to ship out. When they open it, they'll be able to tell that it has been retaped, and he'll be charged with fraud.

Maybe apple should have a better return policy that does not encourage such behavior???
