Trying not to get my hopes up....

Everytime I hear they are finally going to update the iMacs I get all excited then my hopes are dashed.

Regardless my cash is waiting on you Apple.

How many consumers out there know Ghz from an ethernet port?

People have no idea what the hell "top of the line" specs are.

It doesn't matter what people's prior knowledge to products are, because when they are looking for a new computer, they will see a machine with a dual core for $1500, and machines with a quad core for a whole lot cheaper.

People these days will look at numbers on their GHz, RAM, and HDD. Obviously, most mainstream consumers have no idea what these numbers mean, they just know the higher the better. And this is where Apple can't have the advantage. I mean, come on, make the machines an inch thicker, and throw in a full desktop processor instead of using these notebook chips.

Oh yea of little faith. Apple has a long standing policy that if you ordered within a certain time frame before a new machine comes out, then they take care of you. (I forget if they let you return it for a new model, or if they pay you some sort of rebate, or whatever) And in most cases when you order a machine and a new one is coming out within a couple of weeks, then they automatically ship you the new model even though you ordered the old model.

I got mine on the 25th, set it up literally two days ago. Have my time capsule, printer and everything set up perfectly. Is this still the case even thought I bought it new from amazon.

Thanks for the reply.

I knew the mini's would be updated this tuesday a week ago.

How did I know this? Well my GF and I are moving in together this month and I just dropped a bunch of money on a new bed, surround sound, and other assorted household things. In fact I spent the "new mac mini" money I had been holding onto since January. Those funds had been waiting patiently every Tuesday. So of course once I spent that money it was guaranteed that apple would do the update the following week.

I kid, I can wait till next pay check if I have to. But aren't you glad I didn't start a new mac mini thread with my "proof"

as far as I can see they have been released:

Is it always like this when a new release is due out. I was looking forward to my first Mac and now I am not so sure. Having spent a few hours in the Apple Store, I am disappointed that I was not told to hang on a week or so.

Here I sit awaiting a machine that most people do not like with the sounds of it.
Am I wasting my money or do I stick with my trusted, but horrible PC.

I am losing faith, fast :(

For one -- going to the Apple Store and talking to a Specialist means almost nothing. The people who work there know nothing about what is coming. Truthfully, they just hear the rumors, just like we do. And in addition, many of them don't even hear the rumors, they're just there to get their pay.

And two -- Apple has a 14 day return policy. If you go to return it, they'll gladly accept it and let you get the brand new shiny iMac that is to come out tomorrow. So chin up!

P.S. The Mac you just bought doesn't suck -- people are always just looking forward to the next great thing that Apple comes out with. So have fun with it!

:D Your right. I was very impressed last week and nearly bought the 20" complete with apple care and a new printer with Mobile Me thrown in. For some reason I hung back and then discovered new ones were due.

Now I am all over the place sat up at gone 3am wondering what the hell to do.

Bloody Forums ;)

Mate, I'd just look at what you need a Mac to do for you, look at the iMac line-up, and just click that buy button.

With Apple making both the platform and the OS you will find that a Mac remains fast and efficient for years compared to a PC which can get bogged down and eventually slow to a crawl before requiring user maintenance.

You will love your new iMac, I am certain of it.

So I can put my imac in a box and they will give me a new one. Or do you return it and wait to get reimbursed and purchase the new one?

i remember there once was imac G5. icore7 surely cooler than G5.

I think it is possible.

True, but the iMac G5's were about an inch and a half thicker.

Technically, if Steve would get off of this thinness trip we could see desktop parts in our Mac desktop like in the days of PPC.

Steve killed all possibilities of that with the new thin and cute machines.

You will get your money back.... or you can swap it if the new ones are out tomorrow.

Just to avoid confusion, i didn't actually buy one. I am sat here with my CC iin hand awaiting the launch so I can get my teeth into OSX and leave this bloody Vista behind.

Obviously with spending over £1000 I want to get the best I can.

Not sure if online is better or calling into the Apple Store.

Oh Well, bed time. Lets hope a few hours in the UK brings the new iMac.

Couple of points about the new iMac specs

1) They are bumping the standard ram from 2gigs to 4 gigs.
2) We haven't seen the graphic card specs which is a big part of your high end rendering performance

People are laughing at the Core 2 Duo but really few programs even know what to do with Quad cores, Core 2's are still the norm and we are getting a big bump in memory. I really would like to see a good jump in the graphics card though. Also if they keep the "mass market" price the same as the current higher end 20" iMac then I'll be happy as you get a larger screen with those mentioned spec upgrades.

There goes part of my tax return if it's true. I would love a mini for my HDTV and to access my NAS. :)

Bad deal when he bought it five days ago and the new models are the same price as the price at which he bought his.

That's one of the many reasons why it's almost always better to order from the Apple store. If you order from the Apple store and new models are coming out soon then they'll almost always delay the order so you can actually receive the new model, even though you ordered the old one.

EDIT: though I haven't heard reports about the mac mini having its shipping times delayed in the past few weeks, so maybe that wouldn't have helped in this case unless you literally ordered it a day or two before the new ones come out.
