Sounds bit disappointing. If all iMac gets is a displayport and faster CPU, then I'll be crossing it off my shopping list :S

Gimmie quad core + whatever nvidia has got under their sleeve.

Oh well... I shall wait and see...

Absolute JUNK!

What's with the damn same old exterior with the Mini?

Has Apple suddenly lost all sense of creativity?

So, so, so disappointing.

And before anyone moans about this comment, consider the almost 600 days since the MacMini has been updated and ask your self, is THIS the best they can do?

Everything else is being prepped for the new MacOS X 10.6, new MacBooks (pros), iMacs etc. Yet the Mini stays like it used to. The specs aren't even that special. No, Blu-Ray, no nothing. The Graphics and processor is the LEAST of the things they should have updated...

SO disappointed!

4GB RAM
24" LED Display
More HDD
and may be better GPU
and may be price cut

will not make you happy?

Future proofing is important. Also the 65 W desktop quad-cores that were rumored are of somewhat similar prices to mobile dual-cores of similar GHz. Plus Apple could have given only the higher-end iMacs (those users would likely be doing more intensive work) quad-cores and use cheaper dual-cores in the lower-end ones.

That's true. My comments are probably selfish because I know I won't be doing those things. I'm happy as it is, quad cores would put me over the top. Hopefully these specs are wrong.

How can you be so sure?

While it wouldn't surprise me if it beats 8 core machines on apps that aren't optimized for that many cores, I assume when the software supports 8 cores, that machine is still king of the hill, right? If someone is going to use the word "trounced" that better be across the board and not just gaming and consumer apps.
It's a Spec FP benchmark or something similar, and the Mac Pro was using all 8 cores I think.

Some people were expecting Quad cores in all iMacs. I never did but I did expect one in the top model.
The lack of a mobile quad-core tells me that Apple is still not putting lower-clocked quad-cores in the same lineup as higher-clocked dual-cores. We saw this with the lack of a 8-core Mac Pro for 5 months after Clovertown was announced. And now we see this in the iMac. Call me a pessimist, but I don't think we'll see quad-core iMacs until 2011 (depending on Intel mobile quad-cores) unless Apple changes their stance on this.

It is a great design.. the VW was around for how long... more then 600 days..

Pro Video's personal Mac

The high end 24" looks promising for me to us as my personal machine. When I do finally and I do mean FINALLY get the Mac Pro I want to separate it completely from my personal life.

I also hope that the new imac gets the latest HDD offerings.

Hmm... Mac Mini is... Mac Mini? What would you like to change? There's hardly anything there and the exterior can't really get any simpler.

But I reckon that with 9400M on board, you could play 1080p x264 movie and that's a feat that my previous 2.4Ghz/4Gb/8600M MBP couldn't do (in some cases... depends on the encode).

new iMacs

I had a my new 24" iMac for about 2 weeks now. I bought it from amazon.com and was wondering what the policy is for counting the 14 day return policy? I ordered it on Feb 15 but received it on the 16th. When does my 14 days end? I would like to see because I would like to take a chance and take it in for an upgrade.

If you pick enough Tuesdays in a row, you're bound to get it eventually I guess.

I can't wait, there's a good chance my order goes in tomorrow.

When is Snow Leopard scheduled to be released again?

Just have to add, Mac mini not on a GMA 950 any more! *shock horror!* :p:D

And finally wireless N instead of G, I assume? Freaking took long enough.

Fit a Bloomfield in the iMac case without it melting and then call us back.

Funny, I thought it was APPLE's job to design their machines. If they don't have what it takes to use the latest technology, then yeah, that IS their problem.

It's a Spec FP benchmark or something similar, and the Mac Pro was using all 8 cores I think.

So you're saying this four core chip can beat one with twice the cores, even when all cores are being used? I'd like to see that benchmark, where is it?

It is a great design.. the VW was around for how long... more then 600 days..

Sorry, but I'm going to differ on that one. I'd argue that the mini design, specifically requiring the use of laptop parts (especially optical and hard drive) is one of the biggest design blunders Apple has made in recent years.

FWIW, I have an 8-core Mac Pro. It's completely hamstrung by the requirements of awful, expensive FB-DIMMs. On anything that cares about memory bandwidth (like pretty much everything) it IS trounced.

Not that I'm complaining - it is after all 12 months old. When the new 'Pros are out, I'm sure they'll leapfrog again. But I was hoping I could, get some iMacs with, ideally Core i7, but at a push quad cores for the office. These alleged "updates" seem pretty stale to me. I'm prepared to pay a significant premium - but there's no way I could justify the kind of price differential to a Mac Pro which, in the short term, is slower and twice the price; and in the long term will give performance we don't need and be twice the price. :(

Hey don't diss the GMA 950, it's old enough now that it is like, a classic!

Here is an article from May 31st, *2005* talking about Intel's 'new' GMA 950
http://www.extremetech.com/article2/0,1558,1821810,00.asp

The conclusion, of their review, in May of *2005*?
"We can state flatly that if you buy a system using Intel's GMA950 integrated graphics and want to play 3D games, invest at least $60 in an add-on card."

And the Mac Pro/PowerMac has had the same design since 2003. Yet no one cares because it looks good.

Every idiot on here was clamoring for a MBP redesign just because and the new ones look arguably worse.
