Oh, right, yes, Apple are so bad for putting low specs in the rumours that we argue over.

They obviously need a new research dept dedicated to ensuring that only cutting-edge, hi-power specs get out into their rumours.
They couldn't speed bump the 3.07 GHz? That's the least they could have done after 11 months and 2 speed bumps to the Penryn mobile CPUs.

Johny Ive could lead it, and make sure that all Apple rumours have a brushed aluminium finish and a minimalist feel.

I find it ironic that MacBidouille is now considered trustworthy, considering that when they first appeared many years ago they were predicting a new Power Mac G4 at 1.4 GHz at a time when the top-of-the-line was 450 MHz. They had a mockup that looked like an old-fashioned microphone. Does anyone remember?
And the formerly reliable MacOSRumors is completely unreliable now…

So I just bought a new iMac 2 weeks ago -- does Apple have some sort of "up to date program" that takes into account purchases w/in the last 30 days or so?

No new iMac for me unless it's Quad Core.
Bonuses wanted: More than one gigabit ethernet port or an expresscard slot so I can add it myself, moar poarts.

no kidding, they really need to get the mac mini's price point where it used to be.

Amen to that. These new specs are really only impressive if the mini drops in price as well.

And apple really needs to get quad core into their consumer machines, I want to see it in the iMac AND the mini.

The lowest Apple would drop prices is $499 for the base Mini and $999 for the base iMac, but it's far more likely that they'll just leave the prices as they are.

In the Mini seems down right unlikely...unless it was a BTO, and even then, I doubt it.

I agree the iMac needs to be able to have it...I mean its Apple main desktop, they should allow that thing to be a speed demon!

Man I hope they release a 17" macbook air, because when everyone says they want "small" and "compact", they must mean "extremely thin".

No QuadCore == No Refresh

So, basically treading water.

Meanwhile, the Mac Pros are being trounced by £800 Dell Core i7 boxen.

Hmf. Would have liked to have bought some iMacs for work, we're in the purchasing window - but this looks unlikely to be competitive to me.

They seriously do. The iMac - Mac Pro gap is becoming ridiculous. The iMac will have dual-core Penryns while the Mac Pro will have 2 quad-core Gainestowns?

Hopefully the presence of 3 24" iMacs means that an 28" iMac is coming soon. I hope that iMac will have quad-core, and since it's larger and potentially has more room for cooling, it should be free of any thermal restrictions the 20" and 24" ones might have had.

Link to one of these Dell boxes please?

That true! That place reminds me of ToonTown from Who Framed Roger Rabbit?. It's crazy! :D

I only go there if I am in a lighthearted mood and want to read something completely off-the-wall.

If this turns out to be true, the iMac doesn't really seem to have been updated at all. Adding more ram isn't that big of an update in my mind. Guessing the price will drop slightly.
