I am actually in the market right now for a mac mini. Does anyone have an idea when there could be an update, I am hoping Feb 26th. Looks like a lot of Macs are do for an update iMac and especially the MBP. I was on the Apple site looking to see if there are any plans for an "event" but I don't see any.

(I am sure this question as been asked to death but I didn't feel like looking through 880+ posts, so play nice) ;)

You & I, & I'll bet thousands of others are asking the very same question. MacBook Pro updates are almost a banker, but going by the excellent MacRumors Buyer's Guide, both the iMac & the Mini really ought to see updates fairly soon (the Mini is already 12 days past its average wait for an update).

For now I'm holding on, but if Apple doesn't act soon (& as I already have a Mac laptop), I'll be considering... er, other options. ;) I know some people will disagree with me, but I think that a highly successful company like Apple not updating products for unduly long periods indicates a kind of contempt & customers being taken for granted. If Vista SP1 arrives before these Mac updates (though I'll still buy Macs in future) my next computer will certainly be a PC.

Edit: Admittedly, the above reason for getting a PC slightly disingenuous. I'd be getting a PC anyway (for discrete graphics, gaming, etc.). Though I'd prefer to get a current Mini as my next desktop, I won't because I strongly feel that they are well overdue an update.

Personally I wouldn't like the mini to go EOL until a few years later when I have some cash to buy a cheaper one. I want but don't need one now, but then I think it'll either be the mini or the Apple TV to go.

dont know if it's a glitch or if something is up, but the Mini has completely dissapeared from the Refurbished section of the apple store. completely gone. not even a heading with no inventory underneath it. it was just there on friday evening, as i was about to buy one but decided to wait another week and see what comes.

Wow. I saw the same thing last night. Gets ya' thinking, especially if your shopping around.

Same here... need login. Please fancy us and give an overview.
It is a 2.5 minute video saying that Apple will be making an announcement next week about something that is bigger than the iPhone.

That ambiguous statement can have a double meaning. Bigger in physical size or does it mean bigger in the WOW factor. It did not elaborate.

We will have to wait for the answer.

Because there are rarely any Mac Mini computers listed at the Apple resale area, that could be a very good indication that the Mini is such a quality built machine that few are returned.

If you keep watching, you will find one, but it will be sold quickly, and then you have to wait a long time before another one is listed.

I'll be honest that I haven't read a single post within this thread. But I must say that the Mac Mini is a wonderful and powerful machine. I bought an entry level Mac Mini for my parents this past Christmas and it kicks my PowerMac G5's ass.

It's cheap, quick, and takes up less space than my MBP.

I have been wondering if the Mini will successfully run HD TV programs because of it's limited GPU. See attached.

I logged in using my old AIM screen name.

Couldn't find the article.

Maybe it's an old article referring to the MacBook Air? If not, maybe referring to the iPhone/iPod Touch SDK?

Mini EOL

Mini is EOL'd sources are telling folks over at AppleInsider. This makes me think a new system is on the way. So Long Mini, Hello ....Macintosh? Im hoping for the consumer tower. Anyone think there is a chance of Apple bringing in a new machine or perhaps a cubelike redo?

Hi there,

Thought that it was announced in 2006 that the mini would eventually disappear and not be replaced.
If you look at the current specs of the mini, macs and computers in general you'll see that there is little need of a "half baked cookie" like the mini.
There are linux boxes with similar specs for around € 100.

It is, however, time for a decent MBP upgrade!

Would you do a test for me using the Mac Mini to run one of the ABC High Def TV programs, not all of them are, to let me know if the Mini is capable of doing it without stuttering.

A disagree. The mini is not a half baked machine. Comparing my mini with the 4 PCs I unfortunately have to run in my office the mini beats them all hands down. If the mini is replaced it will probably be because too many people assumed (without trying it) that it was a substandard machine.

I have tried getting hold of second hand ones to make up a network for the office. You can't get them. No one wants to let go of them. Speaks for itself really.

If you have the time to wrestle your way through a Linux machine please be my guest.

I agree.. The Macmini is formidable machine, really the only thing it lacks is a decent GPU. Go on ebay and look at what old MacMinis (solo or coreduos) are going for. You might as well buy new or refurbished.

Hmmm what does EOL' mean???

HAHA thanks

And I would love to see a consumer tower but I highly doubt it is going to happen. Apple has NEVER had one before and they like repeating themselves!

Still is fun to think about though

you didnt read what i said.

completely gone. not even a heading with no inventory underneath it.

even when something isnt in available there is a header for it, with an empty box underneath it before the next type of hardware is listed. there is not even an empty header section for it anymore. The only time they take out headers (and occasionally relist them) is for discontinued hardware, like 5G ipods. Trust me, i check the refurb store almost daily, i know how it works.

Actually, they have reorganized the Refurb section. IE Thurday Feb 21 no Mac Minis at all, not even a blank section, saturday Mac Mini showed up and I bought one , and today I checked no mac mini section :D

But you are right they used to have place holder for all of their products in the refurb section.

I wish that the Mac Mini would be updated on Tuesday because I would like the 1.83 GHz, but with a superdrive. This would be my first Mac also.
