Just in case anyone wants to buy a current MacMini in the UK, John Lewis's clearance sale has the 2ghz Core 2 Duo 1gb 120gb model for £100 off. Still £399, but saving a fair bit. (They also had iwork family pack for £48 - online, didn't see it in store)

Did you see this offer in store? There's nothing on their website.

I'm still not sure they're worth it, even at that price.:(

Offer was in store, I needed another mini and couldn't really wait. So thought I might as well.

Just updated the memory and going through disk transfer (target disk mode) as I type.

The display model at Solihull is a G4 1.42ghz version! (it's not connected)

Ah fair play like if you need it an all , , My lass can get the HE discount so £100 off for this model aint all that for me so I'm diggin me feet in waiting for a refresh ..... , I reckon that G4  on display will be going for peanuts shortly :D

Stock getting low

Look around some of the bigger movers of mac products do not have the 1.83
GHz in stock, Like mac mall and others. This just might be the sign we are looking for.

I hope so. The mini is a failure. Totally.
It's not a failure. It's more of a disappointment more then anything else. The majority of my Mac minis are going to replace single processor Power Mac G4s that we had around for 5 years. I've maxed out the minis but I doubt they're going to last as long.

Your comment actually made me LOL .

Mini a failure , how so ? imo the mini is Apples best machine because you don't see many "how can I fix this" threads for the mini ....anywhere !!

I was speaking to a "Genius" at the local Apple Store and he agreed with this, he said the mini was by far the most reliable Apple computer.

as a mac mini owner myself i'm not really suprised .. they are rock solid

if anybody calls it a failure it so so only because apple didn't really do anything with it and then of course lame upgrades and increasing the price again with no advertising to speak of

And to add to the general positive experience, there's the G4 Mini used as a Firewire/mLan audio server in my studio, four hours a day every day from new, without ever (yes, really, ever..) a single down minute. And if and when the next one comes out, one of these will join the little G4, equipped with a very much larger hard drive.

So they're apparently both useful and reliable; this is hard to place a value on, but the corollary to my experience of the Mini is surely that of my very powerful and expensive HP laptop that falls over at a moment's notice when asked to do pro-audio-related work.

Your concept of failure could use a bit of an overhaul perhaps, and some evidence of personal experience would avoid the charge of witless trolling on your part.

we have the mini hooked up to our tv and it's perfect for watching quicktime movies on the tube, it's very quiet and so small you just don't see it, and also a lot more flexible than the apple tv, which is the real failure in my eyes.

Having both, I can tell you each has its place. The ATV is no failure, either. It sure handles AC-3 5.1 audio better than any Mac does, and it's much more family-friendly and convenient to use.

Same here. I use a mini in the living room and an ATV in the bedroom, and I prefer the ATV in several ways. One of each is ideal IMO.

The g4 mini also coasted less and had a real video card.
