No reduction at my John Lewis

It was mentioned that John Lewis is selling Mini's at £100 off
I checked out the Cambridge branch of John Lewis and they knew nothing about a £100 reduction - the staff were very helpful and used their terminal to check the price details at the central John Lewis computer. Both models were on their central computer at the standard rrp's with no history of any movement in price since their release.

Apple will not make a low cost tower. There is negligible profit margins and high competition only to be found in the PC market. Dell need to sell 3 computers to make the profit Apple does by selling one. Sorry but no-one other than you lot want an upgradeable PC, the consumers are terrificly happy with an all in one design. Its a niche market.

Either save up for a Mac Pro (a worthwhile investment since it will last you far longer than any other computer, could even prove to save you money in the long run since it will still be a great computer in 3 years), settle for an iMac, or settle for a Mac Mini.

I know what my next computer will be, 8 cores of man.

Hmmm, interesting ...it was a fellow MacRumors user who mentioned it a while back in this thread , it must be in this thread somewhere as I searched John Lewis £100 off( in MacRumors) and this is the only thread this year to come up , not sure if it was the store you mentioned , if it helps the guy did say they had a G4 Mini on display but it was not connected

First post , hope that helps :)

Who the f*ck are you to tell anyone to shut up?

Who am I? Someone with enough education to know better, but then again I often times forget that the average age of MR members is only about 15 years old. Sorry your right please forgive me I should know that a 15-year-old adolescent child would not understand how large corporations structure and market products lines.

Did that education include how to spell "you're" and when you use commas?

In fact, you don't know squat about Apple's business plans. No one does, other than Apple itself.

Indeed it was me, Solihull had a red clearance ticket on display. The system wasn't updated, but I still got the £100 off.

Item code was 827-02306, red ticket was definately for the 2.0 Ghz model. This was the only one in the Solihull store.

Apologies if it's caused any problems for people.

Personally, I think they are more worried about taking sales away from the high end iMac.

I'd also add the rest of the iMac range. - By the by, the quality of my top-end 20" iMac impresses me greatly, & I was one of those heavily pressing for an upgradeable mid-tower or Mini with dedicated card just a few months back. So I've no regrets whatsoever about not waiting for a Mini upgrade.

For those waiting, I just hope any eventual Mini upgrade will have been worth the wait... & that it comes before Autumn.

Too bad they simply can't make the Mac Mini (with Apple TV capabilites) with a stackable DVD drive (optional). And with AMD/ATI making those XGP (otherwise known as external Graphics Card) That could be an awesome addon and a more affordable and customizable Mac!!! :D

I am currently a PC user, now I start to have problems with my machine after 4 years. I think it is overheating and it shuts down many times per week; or maybe it is the power supply, I don't know... Plus it starts to be very slow.

Anyway, I am not here to ask questions about PC! :p Since I will soon need to buy a new computer, I am interested to switch to a Mac instead. A Mac Mini would probably meet all my needs and it seems to be a fantastic little machine.

People recently told on this thread that the Mac Mini would be updated during August at the same time as the Macbook... How do you know this? Was there any announcements that the Macbook would be updated next month?
And if there was no announcement yet, when do you expect that they will release new models?

Sorry, I am a newbie to the Mac Universe!:D

Nobody knows!

Not yet, but it's expected that there will be an update to Intel's Montevina platform when that is ready (recently delayed again, until August).

And if there was no announcement yet, when do you expect that they will release new models?

For the Macbook, as soon as Intel releases the Montevina platform. For the Mini, maybe then, maybe never.

Refresh date sweep

Last update was Tuesday 7th August 2007. For 2008 the nearest comparable dates are the 5th or the 12th.

My bet - either:

There will be simple a refresh, much as expected, with no great surprises, announced on the 12th.

or, very outside chance of

Good News, Everyone! To mark the birthday of Philo Taylor Farnsworth, on the 19th, Apple will unveil a semi-functional quantum computer housed in a brown cardboard box.

Wow, the Mac Mini is horrendously outdated.

In Canada, $649 for a 1.83 C2D/1/80/Combo. Lame.

At Future Shop. for $629, you get a 2.4 Core 2 Quad/3/500/Burner. Three times as much ram, over five times the hard drive space, and a DVD burner for less money!

I know, I know, the Mini has OS X, a way better design (not a cheapo black box...), iLife, etc., but that does not mean Apple gets a free pass to have lousy hardware.

Wake up, Apple!

I say the later, iphone gets a full month of front page all to itself. I expect Montevina and a possible face-lift at this point, only reason Apple would lag so hard on getting the refresh out the door. So I'm with you, August 12th will be the day the updated mini lands!

^ I don't know guys , Apple might just drop a bombshell the day after iPhone release day to give the new Mac maximum exposure ?!

*hopes

Already done?

I myself have always wanted to put a mini in an SE/30 case, that sweet original form factor kitted out with a 9" lcd running OSX. I have a couple Se/30s sitting around, they still work though so I can't bring myself to gut them, but sometimes late at night, when it's real quiet outside, I can hear them calling...

Someone has already done this. I wish I could remember the link to it, I think it was even posted here in MacRumors (Not this thread). I don't know I think I would like a color screen then a black and white. Then again there is always the Color Mac Classic...

As it stands, the value of the mac mini is terrible. I hope they update it or kill it. just do something.
