It's been months now and no word on a new Mac Mini. Not even rumors about one. Plenty of rumors about Macbooks and Macbook Pros, though. The situation is grim to say the least and I think it's about time I stopped waiting and just picked up a PC like I was planning to all those months ago. A shame, too. I really like the Mini and it fits great in my cramped computer area. Perhaps Apple is really all about other things and not making computers.

Don't do it mate.......something's coming !:D

In fact, their last computer update was the iMac, 5 months ago. Before that, the MacBook and MacBook Pro, about 7 months ago. And what do the rumors point to? MacBook and iMac updates.

Boo!!!!

The MacBooks are barely past their average update cycle and the iMac isn't even close. Meanwhile, the Mac Pro is 2 months over the average update cycle and the Mac Mini has been left for dead in the gutter without so much as an obituary.

It's a shame if Apple isn't planning on updating their ancient headless Macs. Faith and logic (man, that's an oxymoron) tell me that there has to be an update, merger or completely new Mac line coming soon.

If your quarters are so cramped that you need a Mini, how will a PC fit in your quarters?

 How is it possibly worth more?
The sentence itself is not true, but let me explain how I understood -hh.

Let's assume, a machine consists of "power"-atoms. Each machine has the same amount of atoms. The G5 atoms are stronger, the G4 mini atoms are weaker.

Now you have to pay almost the same for the G4 mini atom as for the stronger G5 atom.
Therefore the G4 mini atom is overpriced -> "is worth more"

On the other hand you can paint the picture, that the atoms have the same size and you just get more atoms by buying the G5 -> the G5 is worth more.

Of course I agree with you, that the G5-machine is worth more,
but these pictures explain to me, why -hh and you saw it differently.

rumor pleaseee

QUACK! Been following this thread for far to long now. I don't need a mac mini, but I really want one.

Please anyone, just a little rumour! Anything! Even astrology based rumors will do fine, just something to get me going.

I had to dig up and dust off my username and password for mac rumors just to let out my frustration. ;)

Blu-ray drive in the next Mini!!

Okay, I stretched the rumor a little, but it would make logical sense...

This morning, a little bird told me new Mac minis were coming. Then it laid a golden egg and flew away.

So, I opened the golden egg and there was plastic bits inside. I looked at the instructions and was able to built a small car. The license plate read "KS" for some reason.

I hoped into the car after drinking the content of a little bottle labeled "drink me" and I was magically transported into a world filled with elves and fairies.

And then I saw it. The Mac nano. It was silver and black and...

... and then I wope up. :p

Okay, I stretched the rumor a little, but it would make logical sense...

If anything it would mean the end of the DVD-Reader/CDRW-Burner ComboDrive and the birth of the DVD-Burner ComboDrive, SuperDrive being reserved for the new Blu-Ray Reader/DVD-Burner drive. Although I wish they'd use new names instead, otherwise it will get too confusing.

How about a Mini with 2 hard drives, each 3.5 inches and 7200 RPM. Now, everyone go crazy and add to this wild notion.

I'm adding a third 3.5" hard drive spinning at 10000 RPM just to mess with the generated heat, the required fans and the added noise. ;)

It's the Economy!

Well,

I think that the timing is now ripe for Apple to refresh the Mac Mini.
Also, there is still the idea that Apple could fuse Mac Mini and Apple TV into a single HW platform for cost purposes (there will still be a Mini an a TV product).

I have been holding out on this just because I every time I buy, there is a product refresh.

So, I am almost out of patience and could buy with in the next weeks... expect a refresh shortly after that :mad::p

Despite what you might think, there are a lot of people who don't play 3d video games. Thus a mini with x4500hd gpu and Blu-ray rom would be perfect.

Actually, I do play games (I plan on buying Starcraft II, possibly Diablo III as well) and the x4500HD would probably be more than enough for me. :D

And if they use their DVR patents, even more perfect.

It's coming. I can feel it in the air.

I'm with jemo07 on this. We know that Apple is trying to "fix" Apple TV with this ATV v2. I think the ATV isn't flexible enough for many people, and the Mini - while flexible - isn't quite up to a pure media centre for the really hardcore enthusiasts. I think Apple is assessing the success of the ATV v2, and still finding it not up to expectations. Therefore, I think they are melding the two and will present a new Mini/ATV combo at the first Apple event in the new year. It will come in two flavours, without and with Blue-Ray for two price points.

I heard this from a guy in really small car as he waited for a wood-nymph crossing the road. Honest.
