If you can manage to scoop up an original iSight from eBay, this is possible (with the Mini.)
Why does anyone bother buying iSights from eBay any more? For the same (or lower) price, you can walk into any computer store and pick up something like the Logitech QuickCam Pro 9000, brand-new, which is fully Mac-compatible and offers much higher resolution.

There have been recent rumblings around the web regarding a replacement named the "Mac Nano"

With accelerometer- you shake it to randomly switch to a different program. ;)

no more mini rumors?

What the f_&^!!! this is a rumors website. Why aren't there any more rumors about the mini? Come on guys. give me something to dream about.... it doesn't even have to be true.:p

After reading all the postings about the Mini, I can see why it does not get the frequent upgrades like the rest of the pack. It was designed for those who want to experiment with OSX, and many, perhaps most, do not know about the Intel processor road map. It is the most cost effective way to experience OSX. The small size makes it unique and "cute". Therefore, I have concluded that no upgrades are imminent until Intel discontinues the Mini hardware. Even though the specs are getting old, the Mini is still quite a powerful machine.

Mac mini Rev Around the Corner?

Hardmac's Lionel reports:

"One of our 'sources' has indicated that he has more and more problems obtaining a supply of the Mac mini from Apple.

"With a little bit of luck (but we have already said this many times) Apple could have finally decided to update this machine that we particularly appreciate...."

When is this thread going to die already. The Mac mini is not going away but I wish this thread would. Sheesh.

you don't have to look at the thread if you're so annoyed with it. in fact, i think there might be an option to ignore specific threads

Yes, but each post gets us one post closer to an avatar.

so right you are... ;)

mac mini updates in october [fingers crossed]

Me too. In fact, my wife and I are waiting for the Mac Mini refresh to buy our first HD television. I thought Bill Gates was off-base with the 'computer as media center' thing, but he was so right.

We want a Mini in our living room hooked up to a 46 inch 1080p LCD television to take over the following functions, currently fulfilled by the G5 tower in my home office:

I use a Mac Mini as my entertainment center exactly as you described. The current Mini will do everything you listed just fine, except for

10) Playing the occasional videogame.

depending on what the video game is. I have mine hooked up to an HDTV at 1900x1080 resolution, and to a surround-sound system via the digital audio out that the Mini has. I would like an upgrade though because I want a better video card, because I have a couple of games that work fine on my MBP, but not on the Mini because of the video card. But for the most part it works fine as an entertainment center.

Quite right ..... I was getting a little , how will I say? , irate (that's the word) with all the iPhone threads and found that I could simply change my user settings and not even see them at all , bliss ;) .

Doubtful. Apple has finally squashed the prosumer, forcing us to assimilate or hack if we want to use OS X. Now they'll work on dumbing down the Pro-market too.

Steve's dream is for there to be one desktop computer for every man, woman, girl and boy: the iMac. Period.

Or maybe a device, that has the power of an computer: iPhone

apple never think big enough, they should design the mini to be both cheap and expensive.....

everyone knows the mini is based around macbook parts, but why not kill 2birds with one stone, why not design the mini's enclosure large enough to use any of the components used in the macbook, macbook pro and imac(desktop Hardrives)

that way people can have a cheap low end mini, and others can have one with a 1TB drive with the imacs 8800GS card:cool:

In one of my dreams maybe , but as for reality ...not a cat in hells chance , unfortunately

true but only because apple dont think big enough and it would be cost effective as one Enclosure would fit all.

Imagine something the same width and depth as the Time Capsule but double it height. perfect

We all know they could do it , and should do it ...but they wont .Why ? is my question , they :apple: seem to be holding back all the time
