So I am using a iiyama G-Master GB3461WQSU-B1 Red Eagle with a resolution of 3440 x 1440px and just hooked up my base Mac mini M1 to it.

It will not put out the correct resolution, neither over HDMI nor through a Thunderbolt 3 Elgato Dock that can do HDMI 4K60. The resolution is limited to 800x600 as a native resolution. I tried two different HDMI High-Speed cables that had no problems in putting out 4K60 to other devices.

I tried different adapters to Display Port as well and the monitor seems to have issues with the Mac mini.

Anybody else tried any Ultra Wide monitors with their Mac mini yet and was successful?
I am using the same monitor and I am having the same issue unfortunately...
fixed it with EasyRes instantly.

I also had problems with my Lg 5k2k ultra wide monitor. Thanks to a user in another post, I was able to solve. I don't know why but in my display I had to change the displayport port from v1.4 to v1.2. Even though I don't use that port but the usbc port (this display has a usbc/thunderbolt port), I had to make this change. Once done the display was recognized well. So if you have monitors with many type of ports, I recommend that you see your monitor settings and play around with the settings a bit.

Another advice if you use the hdmi port, is to check if you have an option called “hdmi ultra hd deep color” and activate it. It is called so in my Lg 4K monitor (this is a 16:9 and not ultrawide, yes I have 2 external display). If you have another brand, try google for search a similar option, maybe it’s called in another way. In my case I had not activated this option and therefore the Mac mini M1 saw it only at 30hz or at 60hz but not at native resolution (everything was blurred).

Thnx but i fixed it with EasyRes, runs 3440x1440 on 144hz, no problemo!

I have similar issues. Attached screenshots on the LG 49WL95C with my MBP15 2016 and the new MBP 13 M1. On the same resolution, the MBP13 M1 is clearly less sharp. And higher resolutions than 3840x1080 don't show up. If I hold OPTION, then I can select 5120x1440 and that seems fine. Unfortunately I want to run it on 3840x1080. On my old Macbook it's excellent. On my new Macbook the sharpness sucks.

That is quite a lot of difference to my eye... Liveable, but not great! Have you tried EasyRes as per the previous comment?

I have a Dell 3818 and was having no problems with my 16" 2020 MBP. There's been a little bit of weirdness with the MBP M1. The thunderbolt cable doesn't seem to send any signal from the laptop. I am using the HDMI connection through an adapter and it seems like the refresh rate isn't right. Totally useable, but not the cursor is kind of choppy moving across the screen.

If anyone has any thoughts, they'd be appreciated.

Can you try using a USB-C 3.1 cable from your M1 to the Dell USB-C? Also I found running Normal refresh is better then fast refresh. Since we have the same monitor I run 2 screens settings Game and Comfort. Also there is a 2019 firmware update I actually just installed. I have had this monitor since January 2018. I am using USB-C for display on the monitor.

Yep. No diference. Interesting are the options I get in EasyRes. It makes a difference between Retina (2x) and Standard (1x) It seems al higher resolutions are not Retina. No idea what it means though.

That sounds promising! No lag or blurry fonts? Can you screenshot your settings e.g. UI looks like
I have no lag, no flushing lines, no connection issues. I don't see any blur but I must admit I'm not very picky so here's the screenshot. One from the display attached to MBP 2019 running Mojave (via Display Port) and the other with the display attached to Mini M1 via HDMI. I know it would be best to use same connection type for both but I couldn't connect Mini via Display Port without major hassle.

I changed from an HDMI cable to a USBC-->mDP for my Dell U3417W. No difference for me. It still displays at the appropriate resolution (3440 x 1440) but the fonts don't look quite right.

I calculated the DPI on this monitor, and it's about 110. I'm convinced that anything below 180 probably won't look sharp in macOS, and anyone who says they have "no issues" with a low DPI probably just doesn't have a comparison. For me, it's night and day going from my Windows machine to the Mini, on the same resolution.

I am sending my mini back...I'm not willing to compromise on something as simple as not displaying fonts crisply. And I don't love the mini enough to buy a different display when the one I have works perfectly well for a Windows machine.

This is precisely what worries me...

I use high-speed TB3 cable to Display Port cable for my monitor with my 16" MBP

Hoping that setup works for my 46" UW monitor when my Mini arrives in two weeks.

It should “work” in terms of getting you the right resolution and displaying. However, due to the size (and thus the lower DPI), and the way macOS renders fonts, I think you will have less than sharp text.

how much this bothers you obviously depends, as some people seem to say it displays great (it doesn’t bother them).

Thanks. I can always return this if I am unhappy with the resolution results.

I tried this, but when I type ruby patch-did.rb it says "No display data found! Are any external displays connected?"

But the Mac recognizes the dell when I go to displays within control panel. Maybe the patch/fix doesn't work with M1?
Same problem here - read somewhere that the ruby script is not compatible with the M1 yet. I just do not get how Apple can make something like this. With a windows machine the text looks crisp and amazing. But MacMini is like looking at a 90's screen...especially coming from an iMac 5K retina

I started using a mew Mac Mini M1 about 4 hrs ago, connected to a Dell U2718Q 4K via HDMI. Was great then all of a sudden got the static shakes. Rebooted and green screen then static shakes again. Switched off everything and disconnected and back to normal. For how long I wonder... ???
