The release cycle's about a year, so I can't see why not.

Saw the current model (low end) on eBay for just over £300, was tempted but as it's a year old I thought "meh". And I don't know why anyone would pay the full 400 for computer technology that's exactly the same as it was a year ago.

Can't see them killing it off, why would they? It just understandably gets less lovin' from Apple.

is it still anticipated that apple will release a new mac mini? i mean, its been ~1year now.

Mac Mini only recently made it to Core 2 Duo as standard. :p It still has a GMA950, yeah.... it's due alright. Who knows when though. I guess they're pushing for potential Mini customers to just go for a MacBook instead.

To be honest - getting a Macbook instead really makes a lot of sense. BYOKAM as well and a larger screen and you basically have the same plus a laptop.

£399 to £699 is still a fair jump! But yeah, for anyone who doesn't have a laptop already it's well worth considering.

We got more or less the same 75% price jump from the Mac mini to the MacBook in Canada:
- Mac mini 649 $CAD
- MacBook 1149 $CAD

Which is why I always find it strange when people say "for just a little more then the price of the Mac mini you get can a MacBook".

Since when is 75% "just a little more"?

(yes I know about the DKM but since it's targeted at switchers you don't count their value, they're already bought and paid for).

Well, my HE discount made it £601. Plus "free" iPod Nano. Not a bad deal at all, at least for prospective student buyers during the Back to School promo.

Well however diminutive the Mini is, the MB is still a full on the go machine, and that convenience must be factored into the price. Plus its innards beat the snot out of Mini's right now...

Still waiting... I need a MacMini for my «entertainment center» :D
Perhaps august when school starts, we’ll se the new MacMini?

Mac Mini-TV

 Has anyone considered that since the Mini is somewhat long in the tooth and the Apple TV is lacking, that Apple might combine features of the Mac Mini and Apple TV to create a new product such as a Media Center/Server ?
If Steve & I were on speaking terms, this is what I would suggest to him.

Please no, then you'd be adding functionality that many people wouldn't use. Quite a few of us use the MacMini as a desktop computer.

Give it the 2600HD chipset and a Blu-Ray drive though and it'd make a killer media centre. I'd like that.:D

I'm eagerly awaiting the new high-end mini (perhaps it will be a 2.5 GHz C2D, X3100 graphics, 4 GB RAM capable) and would gladly pay $800 or $900 for that machine.

But that said, I have a 2.2GHz X3100 MacBook with 4 GB of RAM in it that I usually use only as a brain to drive an external 24" wide screen monitor and used with aluminum keyboard, mouse, and an array of external hard disk drives when on my desk and I love it for it's power & versatility. Plenty of power and RAM for my professional imaging applications (Photoshop CS3 & Lightroom) and I can unplug it from the array of external drives & monitor & keyboard to use it to surf the web, send e-mails, etc. on the sofa, bed, or the Starbucks in Cancun.

There's a lot to be said for paying an extra $500 (for a MacBook vs. a mini) and getting a great desktop brain that also doubles as a laptop!

And yes, when the new mini comes out, if it is decently potent, I will be bagging one of them in a hot second! But it won't replace my MacBook.

I've already got a macbook pro 17" HiRes glossy.
I want the mini as a web server. It doesnt need keyboard or mouse or screen (except for initial setup). I'm hoping to remote control it from the macbook pro.

I've already sketched out how to set up a Mac Mini as my media center, peripheral and all. Now I'm just playing the waiting game--for the new updated Mini.

same man...same. I dont like having the go ahead from the wifey to buy a brand spankin new computer, but knowing i should wait.

Do you think there would be a call to roll the Mac mini in with the Apple TV, and turn it into a proper media box?
I'm just wondering what Apple will do with the mini, come Snow Leopard. With the mythical mid tower still not here, would the Mac Mini get a Mac Midi model?

They should have done this with the Mini all along, just added some TV-friendly ports and allow it to quickly boot into a "lite" version of OSX (aka :apple:tv interface) - instead of releasing a whole new product. but eh

Sweet setup you have going there.

I was in a similar situation for a while, a PB 12" hooked up to a 19" monitor and external drives, until last year when I gave in and bought the 2gHz Mac Mini with 3GB of ram. At this point, i really like having the separate computers. It's just nice to have a real base, and a separate personal machine to take wherever I go.

If i could buy all new equipment, i'd probably get a Macbook air (which even though as stripped down as it is, would still be more powerful and elegant than my current 12"PB) and a super maxed 8-core tower.

I'd prefer a cheaper Mac Mini to use as a media center.

By the way... BEAUTIFUL setup. I'd have guessed you're a photographer even without Lightroom showing.

and yet computers now adays are used for multimedia kid....

well they should if they want to complete with windows media center. and the media center extenders. Sure the apple TV does that and front row on the macs, but why not create a computer with hook ups for the TV, av system etc.

its all about competition kids, sometimes you really NEEd to move on from the 90s and in to the 2000s
