This rumor is quite funny. Apple has happened to simply put an OS 10.6 installation DVD into someone's Mac Mini. Just like this... It makes NO sense.

Also, how come the lucky owner hasn't posted about this on forums? If I had it before anybody else, legally, I would sign up and post on just about every forum I knew...

I wasn't about to read through all 11 pages to see if someone else encountered this or not, but I called Apple Customer Service today to see if I could change the shipping address of my Snow Leopard order to reflect my new school address and the rep told me I could not because my order would be shipping tomorrow. She told me that it was shipping ahead of schedule and that I should be getting my tracking number some time tomorrow, August 24th.

Just my $.02. Cheers!!

So when is Apple gonna tell us Limies how much Snow Leopard will set us back? I know the Up-To-Date DVD price, but howsabout the standalone price?

$29 for those who have Leopard to begin with and those who don't must be punished to buy the entire retarded COMBO pack with iLife even though you may not use the iLife package... I hope Apple gives us the chance to buy the SL without the iLife deal... I don't use iLife. I use their Pro apps... should be enough!

PS. your Steve Jobs quote... is that a real quote? Awesome!

Did the rep tell you how it was shipping? I'm betting its going out FedEx SmartPost or USPS Media Mail. It would also be an inexpensive way for Apple to pretty much insure it wouldn't be delivered until Thurs or Fri -- Fri.., of course being the rumored launch date.

She did not say, no. I'm sure we'll know tomorrow if the tracking numbers are assigned as she said they would be.

Just a note to all who works with heavy important apps on their machines...

DO NOT UPDATE TO SNOW LEOPARD till 10.6.2 at least!!!!

Make sure ALL apps are up to date and are compatible with SL. If your work is important and you need to ensure that you are going to be able to run your apps for work, then wait.

It's not worth updating the core OS to then not have apps work well with it... Trust me, SL is great but if it causes some issues to start with then wait a bit. Get it now, just wait a bit till you've read ALL the comments from our crash test pilots who's report will give us the much needed push to tighten up the areas SL might have issues with or better yet, big companies like adobe etc.

This is just a friendly reminder that things don't always go hand in hand after such an update... Be patient and wait till the coast is clear and all the major bugs killed!
;)

1) The guy in in the U.K.., hence the "limeys" reference. Pretty sure they don't take greenbacks there. Quids, yes, bucks, no.

2) The Combo pack is a great deal. Stop complaining. If you had bought 10.5 it would have cost you about $129, maybe a few $ less. The 10.6 update is $29. That is an expense of $158 w/o iLife or iWork, which many 10.5 users bought a la carte. So if you don't need iLife or iWork, relax. It's not costing you any more than anyone else to upgrade and you get iLife and iWork for virtually free.

Alright,

[...]
So, do the math... If Apple has released data on certain sites and order saying Shipped on or about the 28th and those who's order is now September, it's pretty obvious that the last three days of the month can't be met due to high demand on stocking up well at the Apple store.

Apple wants to see an iPod like effect, where people line up for blocks on end, to get their hands on the new OS. THAT effect works ten times better than an advert ever will and it shows to Microsoft that the devoted followers and would be followers will be influenced by this phenomenon. Thus they focus on making sure that each and EVERY store can meet the demand come the release on the 28th. [...]

That's quite the intricate theory you came up with there. I don't know whether 'Ockham' would agree, though... ;) Much of this can be easier explained with simple screw-ups, unavoidable data inconsistencies and miscommunication within the organization.

Gotta love Ockham! ;) Though I'd never shave with his brand! :p

I agree... you might be on to something. :)

Where do you get off telling me to stop complaining? Are you nuts? What are you my mother? Geesh the manners of some people...

As for not knowing if he was from the UK or not... well sorry... I live in the UK at the moment and I get the logic of not being able to use $ against £!

And the combo pack is a great deal for people like you, not for people like me.

No need to be condescending to communicate with people you know?

So what's the story with Apple not officially announcing the release on their website? They seem to continue selling Leopard 10.5.6 knowing that people will cry that they just purchased it.

well you gotta figure there are still systems out there that wont support Snowleopard and are available for a number of reasons including that, getting the latest build on disc.

also this isnt a huge major OS Release.maybe not specifically a service pack, but Part 2 of Leopard..since it seems it going to be "Upgrade Only" esque as far as retail purchasing goes.

well you gotta imagine Vista Home, doesnt necessarily have all the support in it; say Ultimate does.
if you ever saw or remember the OSX Leopard Conference they made a sly remark about it "The home, business and ultimate version....in One Disc" or something like that.
Home only supports X amount of cores, memory and little if any 64bit.

any who...

BEfore you install SL on your machines - I advise you to go to the websites of all your favorite software to see if the programs are compatible with it.

Examples are Cyberduck, iStat etc which have issues, or outright will not run...

I just ordered a new, customized 15" MBP; iPod Touch; and (separately) the SL up-to-date package.

Interestingly enough, whether I selected 2-3 day shipping or standard (up to 5 day) shipping, the window to arrive was 5 days wide and ended on September 1. The Touch's window changed from a possible 5 to 3 depending on what I selected. The Up-to-Date order says "Ships: September".

I have no idea if this is related to the OS release or some supply chain bottleneck but it's interesting in any case.

I'm tempted to call Apple Customer Support and ask them if they know what OS the box will have on it, but I'm not sure if they'd know definitively or not.

I think that's just common sense/common knowledge.

I think that's just common sense/common knowledge.

It may be for us folks who live and breath technology, but for many folks that don't they may just hear a new 'update' is out for 29.00, hear that it's the latest-and-greatest, and with figure it's not a BIG update since the name is similar, the price is cheap (especially for those coming from the windows world, where a 'real update' must cost $200+ :p) and they don't visually see a lot of differences (I know the under the hood changes are more important, but it's hard to tell people it's 'that much different' when they don't see much difference)
