Last year a processor only upgrade would probably have quieted a lot of people down. This year I'm not sure it will be enough. It will be an interesting September announcement this year. Lets see what Apple actually announces as far as their Mac line.

I don't care about the latest and greatest. And assuming October for Apple Watch, that's three months, not 2. As much as I rely on my Watch, I don't care to wait when I can be enjoying it now. And at my age, having cellular connectivity when I don't have my iPhone or it's not in Bluetooth range could be literally a matter of life or death.
of course its your call, but I don't think its the most economical and future proof decision. In those 2-3 months the v3 will get discounted so you could save money. If not then you could get v4 which not only would last you longer but would also increase the resale value. Either, you would only win. The only thing you could lose is little bit of time but thats not that bad.
Sure, its your money and decision but I would reconsider if I were you. You are still in the 14 days return period so it might be worth it.
Up to you though

Thats too many updates in one sitting. Expect disappointment. Those watching Apple for decade swill know how much roughly they can get through in an special event. Thats too much. If so most of it will be silent upgrades IE Processor bumps.

Hopefully Apple telegraphs this a bit by leaking three or four unnamed events in the new Steve Jobs Theater? An internal memo regarding cleaning the space in preparation for the unnamed events?

I suspect that if the MB/MBP case/keyboard isn't replaced with a design that users don't hate w/ a fiery passion of a thousand burning suns, and is far more reliable and comfortable to type on, the MBP will be a very very silent processor update... Perhaps done at the same time as the Updated Air/Affordable Notebook announcement? If Apple makes a case/KB design change, all three will be very publicly announced at a Mac laptop event. The words, we heard you, we fixed it, may even be possible? I'm not holding my breath on that, but hope springs eternal?

iMac and Mac mini, especially if they add more processor and graphics options as BTO to the latter, will have a desktop Mac event.. After how much flack Apple's been getting over the mini, I expect at least 30 minutes on the updated mini, including lots of slides with a logic board that includes quad core chips and discrete graphics, TB 3, etc. and a video showing off all the different ways Mac users use their minis. "Apple introduced the mini as an affordable way for Windows users to try the Mac. We never imagined all the amazing ways the Mac mini would be used by so many, and how passionate they would become for this computer." (You read that in Tim's voice, didn't you?)

iOS devices could all be announced together the same event, or iPads may get their own day a month or so after the iPhones. Either way, expect lots of animoji demos. God help us.

And, yes, I still expect disappointment.

You’d have to rob me to get this Series 3 from me now. I also got a nice discount from ATT.

I almost never resell my tech, preferring to give it away or donate to a non-profit. I’m happy with my Series 3 and expect it to last a long time, just like my Series 0.

My workplace will buy me a new laptop (as my old gave in and I'm using an old backup computer now). I was holding out for the MBP refresh, but with only a minor speedbump I don't think I can stomach grabbing a macbook pro and be stuck with it for 3+ years, even if it's free.. I love OS X but given linux/windows on great hardware or OS X on sucky hardware it's a tough choice.

I feel Apple would do well to spread these updates out, not only more evenly across a year, but if there’s too many models to update them all yearly, and they won’t hire more engineers to cover them, then alternate all but the very core ones (iPhone and iPad) so you don’t get 3+ year gaps in between anything being done

It’s a great media computer, it’s what I use it for. Mine is hooked up to our TV and it’s perfect for it.

Such as downloading movies and stuff and using it to watch those?

Without having to spend more than 3000 you can use your own screens, your own keyboard and mouse and have all the features of MacOS.

Not as powerfull as a Mac Pro, but just right for you to use your own devices at an affordable cost.

Ah ok, I mean I figured it was similar to a desktop without the monitor attached. I guess I am just used to a regular desktop which is larger so I didn't think it would be that powerful.

People in this forum that complained Apple didn't update the Mac Mini are ALL going to buy it!

It will never be good until Apple makes basically PC with a 1080ti for $399, and even then, people will find a reason to complain (sponsored by iFixit, bought to you by OnePlus, etc.)
Way to insult all those folks who have been given the finger by Apple(2014 Mac Mini) and ignored by Apple, for all these many years.

Regarding Apple, expect the unexpected, which for Apple, the unexpected is simply a heavier dose of dissappointment..

I agree.

I've been an Apple loyalist for over a decade. In the last 5 years the only good new things I've seen from Apple were:
  • iPad Pro with Pencil
  • iMac 5K (specially the 2017 models with real GPUs)
But oh so many failures and disappointments...
  • Mac Mini and Air abandonment
  • Alienation of the most demanding pro market via the Trashcan Mac Pro redesign and its subsequent abandonment
  • MBP abandonment and then catastrophic redesign
  • Death of Apple monitors
  • 2011 MBP GPU and Butterfly keyboard fiascos
  • Death of Aperture and abandonment of Motion
  • Stagnation of iOS (Android is moving so much faster these days)
  • Stagnation of macOS, with a couple of catastrophic releases along the way (Yosemite in particular)
  • Swift was a great initiative, but 4 freaking years later it's still unfinished (still not ABI stable)
  • The iMac Pro is a mixed bag. A quick band aid for the lack of a Mac Pro and so niche Apple can't even support it properly.
Personally I couldn't care less about iPhones, watches, wireless headphones, or bluetooth speakers.

I understand these days Apple is a company driven by iPhone sales, but it's just sad.

This explains why they still haven't shipped their wireless charger yet!
Really? What can be so difficult about wireless charging that Apple still hasn't released it? I can pick up a Samsung wireless fast charger at Micro Center for $25.00. Have been able to for a while. Apple not have enough money to put towards engineering?

Recall the last mini “upgrade” (2014) during the Apple show when, after all the other Apple products had been enthusiastically introduced, the mini was shown with such lackluster enthusiasm almost as if the mini were an afterthought. Ok folks, we still have this thing. Take a look, yawwwnn...

Apple is working on updates across its entire product line for the second half of 2018, according to a new investor's note shared this morning by reliable Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, with refreshes expected for iPhone, iPad, Mac mini, MacBook Pro, iMac, and Apple Watch.

Much of what Kuo has to share has been mentioned before, but he provides a nice overview of what we can expect to see this fall along with some interesting new tidbits on Apple's upcoming product lineup.

[*]iPhone - There are three iPhones in the works, two OLED models in 5.8 and 6.5-inch sizes and one lower-cost LED model that will be available in a 6.1-inch size. All three will feature Face ID and upgraded A12 processors. While the two OLED models will have dual-lens cameras, the lower-cost model will feature a single-lens camera.
[*]iPad Pro - Apple is working on two new 11 and 12.9-inch iPad Pro models that are equipped with a full-screen design similar to the iPhone X and no Home button, with Apple to replace Touch ID with Face ID.
[*]Mac mini - Kuo didn't have a lot of information to share on the Mac mini, but he says a processor upgrade is expected. The Mac mini has not been updated for more than 1,300 days, aka over 3 and a half years. It's not clear if additional upgrades will be included, such as a redesigned chassis, but at least some kind of refresh is on the horizon.
[*]MacBook Pro - Processor upgrades expected.
[*]MacBook - Processor upgrades expected.
[*]New Low-Priced Notebook - Kuo believes Apple is designing a new low-priced notebook. He originally said that this would be in the MacBook Air family, but now has changed his mind. Previous rumors have suggested this machine could be a 12-inch MacBook, so Apple may be planning to expand the MacBook lineup with an additional low-cost option to replace the MacBook Air.
[*]iMac - Kuo says to expect a significant display performance upgrade, but he does not go into detail about what this will entail and we haven't heard additional iMac rumors at this time. He says the iMac, like other Macs, will get a processor refresh.
[*]Apple Watch - Apple is working on two new Apple Watch models for 2018 that will have bigger displays and enhanced heart rate detection features. The two Apple Watch models will measure in at 1.57 inches (39.9mm) and 1.78 inches (45.2mm), roughly 15 percent bigger than in the current models. Rumors have not been clear on whether the Apple Watch itself will be larger or if the bigger display will come from a reduction in bezels.

Kuo wraps up his note with a prediction that the highly-anticipated AirPods and the AirPower will go into mass production in the third quarter of 2018, suggesting a late fall launch. Apple first announced the AirPower in the fall of 2017, but has reportedly run into some problems with production. Recent rumors have said Apple is aiming for a September launch for the AirPower.

Kuo doesn't provide details on when we might see refreshes to Apple's other product lines, but the company could be planning to launch all of the new products at its annual September event, which is typically held during the first or second week of September.

In the past, Apple has also held separate October events when there is a heavy fall product lineup to unveil, so Macs and iPads could also come in that month.

the only Mac I have had is the early 2015 MacBook Pro which I love, why do people like the mini so much?

Cuz it offers so much power for so little money. (A poor man's Mac Pro) In 2013-ish I used it as a media station, the guts of a recording studio, and a regular computer for around $700. I could run as big of a music session as i could think of with no problem. If your destination has a monitor you can use, it's incredibly portable. I did probably 20 remote recording sessions with it. You only pay for what you use.

I can see that a graphic designer or other visual artist may find that to be unacceptable. But that's not me! :)
