dGPU's needs to be optional everywhere since they mostly bring heat (=fan noice), reduced batterylife in portables and breaks after two years...
Lmao they break after two years only because of apples obsession with crappy ATI cards and rubbish cooling. Oh and I’m sure fan noise is so much more annoying than POS graphics performance in DESKTOPS, right?

That's when Thunderbolt3 and Mojave came in
So after paying 2000 for a brick, paying extra 1500 for enclosure+half decent gpu just for it to not be completely worthless in 3D apps is the way to go. Did I mention using TB3 will mean your precious eGPU will only perform at 85%?

It astounds me that there are people wanting facial recognition on a x86 computer that they might use max 5 times a day vs 100 times on their phone.
Why would I not want something that works flawlessly on my phone, and that sounds to me easier than a fingerprint reader where I have to place my finger instead of just watching my screen?
It seems weird for me that Apple would be switching all touchID devices to FaceID, but keep its MBP on touchID.

Also, you seem to think only about facial recognition for unlocking the computer, but I use it a LOT with 1password.

Anyway, I want it but it's not what will keep me from switching if I need it.

8700K, 8600K, 8700, 8600, 8500, 8400 were launched MONTHS before WWDC and have been in PCs since forever. Any questions?
8500 and 8600 were only launched in April and just started showing up in PCs last month from what I can tell. The others weren't really available in quantity until about January even though they were “launched” in October.

Be that as it may, it does seem that Apple could have launched by now if they chose to. Why they haven’t is known only to them; it could be as simple as wanting to give the 8-core iMac Pro some room to breathe and get its footing before nipping at its heels with the high-end i7 hexacores.

What's the bet that the new "Modular Mac Pro" will be stackable/connectable Mac Minis working together??

Because you can’t compare a handheld device with a laptop......
Samsung and other companies that make both phones and laptops are also the same. There has never been a laptop with proper facial recognition. Microsoft hello doesnt count since they’re not 3D. And the super thin lid on MacBook won’t even allow for a decent camera never mind depth sensing camera lol

...that works for me, I make music! :D
(30" 60hz non-retina 2560 x 1600 for my QC mac mini will last a looong time for my needs)
Annnnd that’s about it. Also your ivy bridge HD4000 does not support 4k+. Best solution to make everyone happy? Liquid-cooled tower Mac Pro. Up to dual-socket Xeon platinum, 3 Quadro GV100, 1TB ecc DDR4. I.e like workstations from literally every other vendor but with water cooling for the fan noise nazi.

No, an internal display can be accelerated by an eGPU, but the app or game developer has to add support for it.
Do apple apps support it?

I wasn't really comparing a handheld device with a laptop, I was just comparing the unlocking-recognition technology, and wishing my favourite was there.

Anyway, I didn't think there would be some technological issue with the thinness of the lid, thanks for the insight

So...touchID is just gone.... :( guess I'll have to hold onto my iphone 8 as long as possible.
You can also use iPhone 1, a device with a very modern locking technology (4 digits code).

Yes, with absolutely no ports. Wireless charging, Bluetooth mouse, and keyboard via Handoff.

as hard as I laughed at your comment
since I got my iPhone 8 I can't get the idea of a mac mini with wireless charging pad - the apple logo - on top of it..

I would really love a new mac mini design, a cylinder, with one very silent fan, like current mac pro. tb3 for external graphics and VR, if wanted.

The current Mac Mini design is simply awful. Not upgradable and built around slow but not cheap processors.
It is underpowered and expensive by design.

Apple will probably keep the same design and keep the Mac Mini unattractive. Still anything that happens, at this time, will be nice.

If they did a 'Mac' in cylinder form - then it would be best to just include an RX 580 / 56 / 64 option for the graphics card (maybe with up to the 9900K or 8700K). An external GPU is only reasonable when you have no other alternative (laptop) but technically you are just wasting money through making external GPUs. Thunderbolt runs on PCIe slots (4 lanes maximum) while you average high-end graphics cards typically slot into 16 lanes... that and the overhead to run a wire from one box, into another put PCIe lanes in it with a power supply just so you can put in a graphics card that should be in the main computer (and up to 70% degraded performance - higher for high-end cards - is equivalent to paying $1,000 for a $500 card (or less) then adding in the external box of $300+ -- in the end you are just wasting about $1,000 in total).

I hope the new Macbook Pro will be THINNER with less ports and please remove the headphone jack as well! The keyboard should be removed and replaced by a 'TouchBoard' or a telepathic input stream.

The folks will go crazy! thinner, Thinner, THINNER!!!

The Mac Pro was a cylinder to accommodate the concept of one CPU and two GPU boards mounted in a triangle around a central ‘thermal core’ - which, with hindsight, turned out to be such a duff idea that even Apple have publicly accepted that it was a mistake.

There’s no reason for making a Mac Mini - which will probably use a single circuit board to keep costs down - cylindrical other than rampant form-over-function... and since it would probably add to the cost, even Apple are unlikely to do that.

The 9th Gen is just going to be a slightly rehashed 8th Gen by the looks of it so no biggie. If it was the 10nm chips then I'd agree.
Apparently 9700k will be 8 core but I’m not sure

Oh god, don’t get me started on Apple and GPUs. They say all this BS about wanting to support the professional market and yet we can’t even use Nvidia cards natively.
>professional
>no CUDA

Apple is working on updates across its entire product line for the second half of 2018, according to a new investor's note shared this morning by reliable Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, with refreshes expected for iPhone, iPad, Mac mini, MacBook Pro, iMac, and Apple Watch.

Much of what Kuo has to share has been mentioned before, but he provides a nice overview of what we can expect to see this fall along with some interesting new tidbits on Apple's upcoming product lineup.

[*]iPhone - There are three iPhones in the works, two OLED models in 5.8 and 6.5-inch sizes and one lower-cost LED model that will be available in a 6.1-inch size. All three will feature Face ID and upgraded A12 processors. While the two OLED models will have dual-lens cameras, the lower-cost model will feature a single-lens camera.
[*]iPad Pro - Apple is working on two new 11 and 12.9-inch iPad Pro models that are equipped with a full-screen design similar to the iPhone X and no Home button, with Apple to replace Touch ID with Face ID.
[*]Mac mini - Kuo didn't have a lot of information to share on the Mac mini, but he says a processor upgrade is expected. The Mac mini has not been updated for more than 1,300 days, aka over 3 and a half years. It's not clear if additional upgrades will be included, such as a redesigned chassis, but at least some kind of refresh is on the horizon.
[*]MacBook Pro - Processor upgrades expected.
[*]MacBook - Processor upgrades expected.
[*]New Low-Priced Notebook - Kuo believes Apple is designing a new low-priced notebook. He originally said that this would be in the MacBook Air family, but now has changed his mind. Previous rumors have suggested this machine could be a 12-inch MacBook, so Apple may be planning to expand the MacBook lineup with an additional low-cost option to replace the MacBook Air.
[*]iMac - Kuo says to expect a significant display performance upgrade, but he does not go into detail about what this will entail and we haven't heard additional iMac rumors at this time. He says the iMac, like other Macs, will get a processor refresh.
[*]Apple Watch - Apple is working on two new Apple Watch models for 2018 that will have bigger displays and enhanced heart rate detection features. The two Apple Watch models will measure in at 1.57 inches (39.9mm) and 1.78 inches (45.2mm), roughly 15 percent bigger than in the current models. Rumors have not been clear on whether the Apple Watch itself will be larger or if the bigger display will come from a reduction in bezels.

Kuo wraps up his note with a prediction that the highly-anticipated AirPods and the AirPower will go into mass production in the third quarter of 2018, suggesting a late fall launch. Apple first announced the AirPower in the fall of 2017, but has reportedly run into some problems with production. Recent rumors have said Apple is aiming for a September launch for the AirPower.

Kuo doesn't provide details on when we might see refreshes to Apple's other product lines, but the company could be planning to launch all of the new products at its annual September event, which is typically held during the first or second week of September.

In the past, Apple has also held separate October events when there is a heavy fall product lineup to unveil, so Macs and iPads could also come in that month.

[doublepost=1531393573][/doublepost]Mac mini should use m.2 hard drive and external only making it even smaller and if they support external gpu it could be the best gaming mac yet

The A-series chips are getting so good I don't doubt they can run OS X at acceptable speeds for a low-end Mac in an ultra-compact and cheap form-factor. Apple should really be aiming for a Mac Mini that looks like an AppleTV, something almost pocketable. How good would that be? It could fulfil its its original purpose of being the gateway drug to OS X, especially for those interested in developing apps. It should come with a version preloaded with Xcode even -- the developer special!

They then need something like a headless iMac, i.e. a mid-level Mac targetted to consumers. Finally, they need the new Mac Pro for professionals.

On the laptop side, the MacBooks really need to come down in price and become the entry-level laptop. I can't understand how they're priced as high as they are for what they are. Add a 14" MacBook model for those that want something a bit more but still ultra-portable. Problems with the MacBook Pros have been discussed endlessly but they occupy their niche pretty well. Of course I'd like to see an even larger 16-17" model for those that want the ultimate mobile workstation. I honestly don't know why any of this isn't possible and many of them have been commonly requested for aeons. They used to make 14" MacBooks and 17" MacBook Pros yet despite the significant thinning and reduction in weights and bezels over the past decade they now think that's too big?

Overall it's a common belief on MacRumors and I believe more generally that Apple are focusing far too much on iOS and their devices and not enough on Macs. Sadly, I think the 2018 Mac releases will be too little too late because Apple's heart isn't in it anymore. They're too addicted to the money from iOS.

Now, can I run Apple please? :p
