Screen-wise, do we need an 8K iMac. No! I suppose we might see an upper tier screen size of 30". But then, that would make the iMac Pro less of an attractive proposition physically speaking unless that were to receive it as well (God, I'd be a bit p****d off if that came to fruition at this stage). Minimum 8GB Video RAM across the board would be nice. Mini? Well, in order to get this lineup back into some sort of order, it should be user upgradable in terms of RAM at least and be able to accept what the iMac should be able to - after all, it's a headless iMac alternative. MacBook Air is irrelevant these days - doesn't even have the screen res to play HD content! And if Apple felt the need to include legacy ports on the latest iMacs, then that should carry across to the Mini and the Macbook Pros - ditch the 'thinner is better' mindset, allow room for ports, admit that the keyboard is a disaster and accept that people want power AND a full feature set rather than something designed just to do great things and look great doing them. But alas - if these things are on the horizon then the legwork has already been done. All we can do now is wait for the inevitable. But fingers crossed, eh?

Did i just read Mac Mini ?

Yes, with absolutely no ports. Wireless charging, Bluetooth mouse, and keyboard via Handoff.
You KNOW a Mac Mini with NO PORTS would be practically useless.

User-upgradeable Mac Mini is definitely possible since previous models could have SSD added as well as upgrading the RAM. That's about all one would need to upgrade in a Mac Mini.

Where's the updated / new Mac Pro?

Do we really need another low cost notebook? There is macbook and macbook air.
The MacBook isn't really what I would call "low cost", and if the recent rumours are to be believed, that new model is to replace (at least) the MBA, which Apple has declared pretty much end-of-life already in 2016.

A couple of ideas - since I'm waiting for new iMacs so I can replace my aging 27" iMac from 2013.

[snip]
  • OLED displays.
  • Truetone displays.
  • Less bezel. Far more important than "thinner". Use this for increased screen size.

OLED displays make sense because it would exploit the upcoming macOS Mojave dark mode to reduce OLED power consumption significiantly. From AnandTech’s July 10, 2018, article on laptop displays:

“OLED also doesn’t use any power to display a black screen, but to get high brightness levels on a large panel showing a white image can use substantially more energy than a comparable LCD.”

(Source: “AT 101:Understanding Laptop Displays & How We Test Them”)

Dark mode may just be a cosmetic refresh, but it would make a lot more sense to me if it also had a purpose that resonate with Apple’s values. Paving the way for OLED panels that can improve contrast ratios and reduce power consumption would fit the bill.

Later update:

Apple Insider ran an article June 30th that makes the same point about the value of Dark Mode for OLED laptops:

Right now Apple is focused not just on the engine doing the drawing, but on the display—working to fully exploit the super efficient, hyper contrast, ultra vivid nature of OLED technology (and microLED after it). Macs are still shipping with LCD screens, but OLED is coming and Dark Mode will be ready for it.

The best way to show off the OLED future today is with a dark UI. As Microsoft fans like to point out, that company tried doing this long ago with its early generation OLED-based Zune with a mostly-black screen. It was so dark Microsoft launched the product in a candle lit room, hoping journalists wouldn't notice that the screen wasn't actually very bright (they didn't).

Apple Watch similarly launched with a dark UI because it has both a small battery and an OLED screen that needed to be bright. Touch Bar (which is also implemented using an OLED panel) is itself super Dark Mode already.

When you use Mojave Dark Mode, it makes the Touch Bar really pop as an extension of both the keyboard and the display. It's not an accident that all of these technologies emerged together at Apple this year.

A user-upgradeable Mac mini would be an instant buy for me. I have two that are on their last legs. One can't get upgraded to Mojave, one is on the dev beta and runs perfect, but likely won't see another OS update after. Both have SSDs, a second HDD, and maxed out RAM. These were the perfect Macs for hobbyists and Apple chose to neuter the product and then neglect it.

Apple can show Mac users they are serious about the Mac by giving us a great Mac mini again. We already see where they are going with the iMac and notebook lines and many of us would choose to stay away from them if we could.
This is all that matters, if the hard drive, or ram are not easily changeable it won't matter. My Current mac mini has an ssd, new ram, new fan. Has been working it for quite a while. You would think a new mac mini could connect to an external gpu. I expect to see this, I would sell my mac pro if that were the case and go Nvidia + modded mini.

the only Mac I have had is the early 2015 MacBook Pro which I love, why do people like the mini so much?
Without having to spend more than 3000 you can use your own screens, your own keyboard and mouse and have all the features of MacOS.

Not as powerfull as a Mac Pro, but just right for you to use your own devices at an affordable cost.

Right, and by then we'll already be looking ahead to the Intel Cannonlake release in a few months. But that's pretty much what we expect from Apple now...
Apple is on its own schedule, and so even if cannonlake hits the streets, we'll not see that until the fall of 2019. I guess I'm concerned with buying something now, do I wait, I returned a laptop because I was hoping to see something sooner then later. Its turning out to be later

lol, most of these are just fantasies that won't happen. We'll get some refreshed MacBooks and MacBook Pros along with the obligatory new iPhones/iPads, but that is about it.

LOL @ Apple. They're going to refresh everything before they keep their word on refreshing the Mac Pro.

The way the title wrapped on the homepage, I read "Displays and More Coming This Fall" and got all excited for a moment... oh well.

Significant upgrade to iMac maybe relating to 27 inch ++ screen as Dazzler pointed out above. It has been long time stuck at 27 inches! The iMac Pro could receive the same screen upgrade to balance things out. I can dream, right?

- Mac Mini: highly welcome. My late 2014 (upgraded with an SSD and 16GB RAM) is still going strong for development and office-type stuff, but a bit more performance and a Thunderbolt 3 port would be very welcome.
- iPhone: no more sub-5 inch form factor would be a major bummer. Not a fan of giant phones.
- What happened to the promised modular Mac Pro?

Are there any Cannon Lake processors expected besides the 5W Y-series?
This article does state there are still a lot of unknowns regarding Cannonlake, and it's possible the release won't happen until the second half of 2019. So I could be wrong for sure.

If Apple bumps up the display resolution or refresh rate, improves the keyboard, and lowers the price, I will seriously consider getting one of the Late 2018 models. Otherwise I may just wait while my aging Mid 2012 model continues to suffice.

This is what i’ve been saying for a while, it’s hard to understand why Ming-Chi Kuo didn’t release this sooner.

And even now, the report is lacking available details but I’m assuming that will come when he’s more certain of them, sooner to the event.

It’s a great media computer, it’s what I use it for. Mine is hooked up to our TV and it’s perfect for it.

This. Plus, for basic office use, it's plenty powerful to run Chrome and MS Office. Cheap LCD monitor + cheap (relatively but overpriced Apple product) Mac Mini is a great buy. No point in spending 2 grand on an iMac when a Mac Mini for half that will do just as well.
