Well ok folks!

Now I want to wait 1 week and see if Steve is going to update the high volume cash cow.

Steve, if you upgrade the Mini now, I´ll buy 2! One for myself and one for my mother. :D

I'm giving up!

I've pushed my 7100 as far as she will go. The Mac Mini WAS going to be the next computer...but now with the chipset being overhauled NEXT MAY, I'm saying enough! I'm just sick and tired of Apple trying to get its act together, while at the same time being so stingy on the upgrades.

I like the Power PC architecture and Altivec and the rest, but it looks like that is a dead end with Apple now. As a result I've pretty well decided to go to the open firmware PPC computer by Genesi.
http://www.pegasosppc.com/products.php

The PegasosPPC has the same chip as a Mac Mini (Freescale 7447), 512 MB Ram and a dual layer DVD burner for $799 US. Runs user friendly, Linux based, Ubuntu as the OS. Comes with OpenOffice and Firefox so you can have a productive, Microsoft Free box. Best of all they are releasing iminantly (Freescale Devleoper's Convention later in June?) a DUAL Processor version that will use the Freescale 7448 chip! And you can upgrade the chipset later.

I love the Mac Mini, the form factor is fantastic, but Apple doesn't seem to care. Why should I?

There is also 7 days wait for the Wireless Minis here in Europe!

Now I think an update is coming. I don´t believe that there is a shortage of wireless Minis both in Europe and USA, since they have different e.g. electric plugs.

I have used e.g. Gentoo, Mandrake, Suse, Ubuntu and now I´m sticking with Macs only. If Apple is going to upgrade the Mini now, it´s just amazing deal. They will support the PPC for several years and in 3-4 years time, you want to upgrade the Mini anyways.

THese shipping delays seem very promising. Hopefully we will se a new mini with a better graphics card, 512mb as standard and possibly some more USB ports...

ShadOW :D

dat de wurd.
lol.
if the mini's get ALTEAST a 64mb graphics card.. i will be on the chase to hunt one down for me.. SO LONG IMAC.

for some i reason i think this is the first time where ive been aware of a rumor that is going to take place.. and ACTUALLY HAPPEN. :-D!!!
i would rather have an ibook update.. however the mini's are fine with me. if they come standard with 512 mb, and 64mb graphics card... what a sweet deal.
perhaps theyll throw in an airport/bluebooth like like iMac. however i doubt it.

I'm really not sure that a Mac Mini update is in the works.

Dont forget, it's not that Apple can't push out better systems, its the fact that they wouldn't fit into the current lineup. The powerbook as it stands certainly isn't "up to date" in terms of technology - and upgrading a Mac Mini would push it dangerously close to being in the same league of processing power as the Powerbook. Obviously this cannot happen.

Well, eMac is close to PB, but it just lacks the portability. Why are people buying a G4 based computer for more than iMac G5?

true, but the minis' portability is very limited compared to the powerbooks'.
i truely believe the mini will have an update.. ATLEAST an upgrade on graphics.. and perhaps RAM...

The Mini is a little different than the PowerBook, I don't think Apple will wait to update the Mini until after the PB.

As far as what to expect from the update, I'm certain it will receive 512 standard as all other lines (excluding eMac) seem to be turning to this. I would love a 64meg video card but I'm not sure this is going to happen, though I sure hope it does. The last thing I'm hoping for is Airport/bluetooth standard. Other lines seem to be doing this including the iMac so hopefully the Mini will follow suit.

I don't see any 'hard' rumors that the Mini is getting an update in the near future, though.

I have been waiting for weeks and weeks without any updates to the Mini. I mean, if I had purchased the Mini back when it came out for instance, and an update came out now, then my Mini would have been worn out already and I could have possibly purchased a new Mac! :p

Anyways, my point is, I WANT someone to please post some 'hard' rumors or facts that show that the Mini will be getting an update soon. I mean, I don't just want to read people's posts saying that 'oh, the Mini will be getting an update in the next couple of weeks because it is due one!'.

Sorry for my little bit of rant. I'm just in the little place where I fell between the cracks. I want a Mini badly, but also don't want to feel bad if I purchase the Mini and the next day it gets an update and my Mini doesn't include the update. Now, wouldn't that suck? :(

Also, one more thing:

If the Mini DOES get an update any time soon, does anyone know WHAT it will get? Also, how much in savings maximum would we manage to save when comparing before and after this possible update?

I ordered a mini here in NZ 2 weeks ago, fully specced up with DVD RW and AI /BT. They told me 3-4 weeks order time here [yup, its slow]

Starting to panic now that I will get an old machine the same day as the new ones!!!

What do you guys think will happen??

Possible an update next tuesday or friday. with the following specs:

-slight bump in processor speeds
-64m VRAM
-512mb
-60gb HD on low end 80 or 100gb on high end
-Stick with combo drive (superdrive will be extra)
-Maybe slight change of motherboard with 2 RAM slots and more USB 2.0 ports
-Also hopefully they will make the Mini easier to open up and therefore more user upgradeable.

If a Mac mini like that was released for the same or lower price than the curent model i would RUN to Apple Store regents street to buy one!!!

ShadOW
:D

lol shadowmoses you seem so sure that it will happen you even have me convinced to a point! :D

BTW, the Regents Street store is so very cool (and yes im a PC user, never had a mac! :p)

EDIT: looks like lead time for delivery is now 7days instead of the previous 24hours

You are indeed correct the lead time has changed to 7 days on all configurations even the stock mini's if this doesnt mean an update i will be very surprised.

The only other thing the higher lead time could mean is that there are severe stock shortages but according to the page 2 rumor a few days ago this seems unlikely.

Roll on next tuesday!!

Same day on the US store.

Yes but custom build it in any way and the shipping time increases to 6-8 days....Even adding RAM puts it upto 6-8 days. There are shipping delays on mini's WORLDWIDE!!!

ShadOW :D

There is 7 days on the standard configurations in Europe and I guess on other configurations as well. It is normal if Apple has a few standard Minis in stock even though an upgrade is coming.

I don't think Apple has so bad inventory control that all Minis worldwide are out of stock at the same time and buyers have to wait a whole week...

All my bets are on an update now!

Same thing in Canada! 6-8 days...my guess would be an update next week as many people have said.
Although I must say this puzzles me as the ibook line is in a much more dire need of upgrading than the mini line, and don't tell me the whole song and dance about the powerbooks needing to be upgraded first thats bs. :

I think it would be smart for Apple to upgrade these guys soon because by WWDC next year they will almost certainly sport pentiums not G4s, so its best to get the next rev out now not in 4-5 months which might be a typicaly 8-10 month cycle.

I just hope the Australian prices reflect the exchange rate a bit better...
