Let me rephrase...startup is slower (even after 3 reboots), applications launch slower and shutdown is slower. Classic launch is quicker, however.

I just wish they would fix safari so pages like this:

http://www.lyricopera.org/home.asp

would render properly.

Frankly, though, it's up to the designer(s) to determine what browsers to target. Although most will want to target all of them, some will use wacky and/or goofy JavaScript tricks (such as the menus on the Lyric Opera's site) to do things. In other words, IMHO it's not Apple's fault. It's the designer's fault.

10.2.8 is downloading as I type... fingers crossed.

hmmm

the kb article says this..

"Two versions of the update installer are available. Mac OS X 10.2.8 Update updates Mac OS X 10.2.6 and 10.2.7 to the later version. This document describes how to use this installer."

Maybe they mean the version on the new powerbooks, not the G5 version.

And it still doesn't work with MS exchange servers.

The site you listed use custom javascript with a browser sniffer that is possibly two years old. It is also way simplistic in how it identifies the browser and then to add insult to injury it doesn't act appropriately for Netscape 6 and up... by this analysis I conclude it is the web developers fault for using old hacks (which may have been useful 2 years ago) instead of sticking to standards and including graceful fail-over when those stnadards are not being met.

You should complain to the webmaster regarding this. Easiest way is to tell them to take out all browser sniffing except for Netcape 4. All other browsers work the same way now and shouldn't need to be given special treatment.

All in all it's not Safari's or Apple's fault your opera lyrics site sucks.

it could just be my imagination, but it feels just the tiniest bit snappier on my imacG3.

EDIT: also, there's now a bluetooth tab in the keyboard/mouse prefpane, regardless of whether or not you have a bluetooth mouse.

I'm on a pismo 400mhz and I, too, find that everything is noticeably "snappier". Maybe I don't need a new albook.

If this is true it is terrible news. I just wish for the day when booting into os9 would no longer give me a shock (concerning how slow and unresponsive osx actually is on my 1ghz tibook).

OpenSSH is fixed.

ssh -V
OpenSSH_3.4p1+CAN-2003-0693, SSH protocols 1.5/2.0, OpenSSL 0x0090609f

CAN-2003-0693 is last week's SSH security issue, so this is fixed.

10.2.8 also fixed a problem for me where my USB BT adapter was only recongnized after plugging it in and out repeatedly.

One thing I've noticed so far: it messed up my desktop icons. For example, a powerpoint file's icon on my desktop got all blurry and pixely, but the ones not on the desktop were fine. I was able to fix this by doing a save as and overwriting the messed up one. And another one: a .jpg file on my desktop (which was set to open with preview) had a graphic converter icon, but it still opened with preview. So I tried to fix it using the same method. When I did it disappeared! It still shows up in the desktop folder in my home (and it has the right icon). I dragged it to my hard disk and put it back on my desktop and it came back.

Weird bugs...

Mmm My dock seems much more white now...

Dock was updated to, is now v1.1.1 (2003/09/15). FYI Dock.app can be found in System/Library/Core Services. Just look for file change dates within September and you get an idea what has changed with 10.2.8.

Also, look in System/Library/Extensions, there are many updates, like Graphics drivers, DVD driver, USB, Firewire and of course Bluetooth.

New kernel is Darwin 6.8 Darwin Kernel Version 6.8: Wed Sep 10 15:20:55 PDT 2003; root:xnu/xnu-344.49.obj~2/RELEASE_PPC

anyone else notice a problem with your personal file or web sharing, also seemed to do number with my ip address stuff and added a network adapter. I restarted my sharing and everything seems fine now... just weird.

Wonderful, now my sound card doesnt work... M-Audio Revolution. Thanks Apple, I appreciate how the Mac doesnt come w/ a sound card, and you make sure to disable the one I have.

Safari CSS rendering improved

They solved a CSS bug with background-image refresh in safari.

I have found this bug during a coding of a HTML/CSS page and send a report to Apple about it.

With 10.2.8 the problem is gone.

I appreciate the information, but was it really necessary to say the site sucks?

Okay I want the standalone installer - anyone care to link to it on their webspace until apple gets it together?

USB audio seems to have been updated and yet, my soundsticks still spaz out when I transmit things through airport :(. Come on apple! Fix the darn USB audio issues!!!

Of interest is that the Key Caps application was also updated - anyone knows why, because of the bluetooth keyboard...?
