Mine also showed 14 MB, but I haven't installed 10.3.6 yet. Relaunching Software Update, and it's still 14 MB. I think I'll wait a while before installing.
This is normal. Software update checks your computer and if it can it installs a smaller package that upgrades rather than replaces some items. It's in the knowledgebase article if you're interested, it's called a delta upgrade.

iMac G5 Bug Fixed

The 10.3.6 update appears to fix the issue I had with my iMac G5 speakers sounding distorted if two sounds happened at once (for instance, having iTunes playing and getting a new mail sound notification.) Now I'm completely happy with my iMac (also after I replaced the bad inverter causing the top of my screen to be dimmer than the bottom...) Thanks Apple :)

My Apple Wireless Mouse didn't like the update. It's like the bluetooth connection got bad. The mouse is not at all very responsive anymore.

I agree. We have a rule at work, no new programming goes into effect on a Friday lest it break something or cause major problems.

I'm sure plenty of testing was done here though.

That's a good policy, but apple might be taking advantage of its two user-bases here.

My guess is, if they release it late on Friday, they have all their home users test it over the weekend to make sure it won't destroy the machine, so that by the time Monday rolls around and their corporate customers go to install it, they had time to 1) Issue an alert 2) pull or fix the update.

Not that apple thinks its corp customers are necessarily more important, but they are more likely to sue and more likely to have critical data.

Anyone remember the release day of the bad update (was it 10.2.7?)

Don't (Kernel) Panic!

Seems I forgot my towel when I needed it most. Nothing a pan-galatic-gargle-blaster won't fix. Anyway, Kernel during the optimization of the install. Checked logs, it wasn't the update, just a random kernel panic. Strangely enough 10.3.6 was the current system. Wiped the drive, reinstalled a 10.3.5 build and updated without any trouble. Thought I would point it out and at least give everyone a chance to ponder what the question to 42 is. Obviously: "At what percent of optimization during a system update in OS-X does a Kernel Panic occur?" Heh, kismet that.

As well as displaying trivial floating point errors, Calculator could go badly wrong if converting between very small and very large units, (for example square inches to acres).

12000000 square inches now converts to 1.9130671416 acres. This is a lot closer than the old calculator which gave 1.44. According to Mathematica the answer is 1.9130700948882767065

Mathematica's answer is really 12000000.00000000000026016 square inches.

1.9130700948882767064585246403428 is closer - it actually converts back to 12,000,000 sq in....

No problems here at all, Safari is working more quickly and more smoothly.

I wonder how many more of these we will get before 10.4 is released?

The first time I opened Software Update, it showed the 10.3.6 release, but at only 14 Mbytes. Strange I thought, the rumors put this at around 34M. I proceeded and after it was done, I got this error message indicating a failure because the package didn't have sufficient contents. A second try yielded the same result.
So, closing and restarting Software Update, now produces a 10.3.6 update at 34.6M. Why would the first time be incorrect??? Strange..
It's loading now. . . .

My external Firewire 400 hard drive doesn't mount anymore. Any suggestions?

Reboot.
Repair Permissions

If that don't work, use the Disk Utility to verify your disk.
Try Single User mode.

If none of those work, try DiskWarrior.

FW or HFS+ performance tweak?

I've frequently noticed a some hesitation at times when working with HFS+ directories on FW drives, and after this update it seems to have magically disappeared. There's nothing in the release notes about this, but has anyone else noticed the same?

Both of my systems have been running like total dogs since 10.3.5. It's the first time I've had to beat on my desk in a screaming fit since buying them 2 years ago. Here's to hoping 10.3.6 fixes that.

I was at work and ran the update. I get home and boot up my laptop and now my garage door opener doesn't work. Anyone?:)

Try resetting its PRAM - take out the battery and let it sit for 30 minutes, replace it with a brand-new, fresh battery and try again. If this doesn't do the trick, try a "hard reboot" -- slam it against a hard surface a few times and try activating it again. :D

Seriously though - anyone seen if 10.3.6 includes native support for the Pioneer DVR-108? It's not that big of a deal since I use Toast, but I wanted to wait until this update came out before installing PatchBurn.

Network logon

Has anyone tried 10.3.6 with network logons with a list of users yet? Have they fixed the 10.3.5 bugs?

To clarify - with 10.3.4, when logging into OpenDirectory using a list of names, one can simply type the first few characters of one's name and the list will jump to the name.

In 10.3.5 this no longer works, plus when one logs out and scrolls the user list the machine freezes.

As a result many educational admins are still running 10.3.4 - if this is fixed in 10.3.6 I will be happy. (Although I will have to re-image about 42 machines...)

Safari 1.3

Oops sorry for the empty post...
Anyway 10.3.6 seems to have killed the Safari 1.3 beta that was released some time ago...And I like a fool deleted the orginal copy of Safari...So I went and download 1.2 from Apples website, but once I installed it an update wont download through software update. I believe 1.2.3 or 1.2.4 is the newest version of safari? Can someone do this out of the kindness of their heart and email the newest version of the safari application to me? Or possibly tell me how to make mine get update? Thank you so much to anyone who can do this.

Please email it to aeroguy242@yahoo.com
or darkelipse04@netzero.com

Thank again!

In Safari, often the drop down menu would just freeze when you clicked the 'Bookmarks' menu. I THINK (touch laminated wood) that 10.3.6 has fixed this.
