Seriously though - anyone seen if 10.3.6 includes native support for the Pioneer DVR-108? It's not that big of a deal since I use Toast, but I wanted to wait until this update came out before installing PatchBurn.

I've been using patchburn, which survived the update intact. After the update I tried removing the patchburn profiles and got the "Not supported" entry in ASP.

So, no, you need patchburn.

Has anyone tried 10.3.6 with network logons with a list of users yet? Have they fixed the 10.3.5 bugs?

To clarify - with 10.3.4, when logging into OpenDirectory using a list of names, one can simply type the first few characters of one's name and the list will jump to the name.

In 10.3.5 this no longer works, plus when one logs out and scrolls the user list the machine freezes.

As a result many educational admins are still running 10.3.4 - if this is fixed in 10.3.6 I will be happy. (Although I will have to re-image about 42 machines...)

If you read the knowledgebase article for the update, you'll see that as one of the fixes in this version.

However, I've never understood the fascination with the 'list of users', particularly for network users. What's wrong with using the two-field username/password interface rather than the list-of-users?

Oops sorry for the empty post...
Anyway 10.3.6 seems to have killed the Safari 1.3 beta that was released some time ago...And I like a fool deleted the orginal copy of Safari...So I went and download 1.2 from Apples website, but once I installed it an update wont download through software update. I believe 1.2.3 or 1.2.4 is the newest version of safari? Can someone do this out of the kindness of their heart and email the newest version of the safari application to me? Or possibly tell me how to make mine get update? Thank you so much to anyone who can do this.
I don't think it would work to get Safari.app from someone else. I'm not sure, but I imagine that the versions of Safari.app and the WebKit framework have to match. I don't think you can just plop in a newer version of Safari without updating WebKit.

You might need to do an archive install...

Firewire bug still present in 10.3.6

http://www.apple.com/support/downloads//macosxcombinedupdate_10_3_6.html says:

Important Note:

Apple has identified an issue with external FireWire hard drives using the Oxford 922 bridge chip-set with firmware version 1.02 that can result in the loss of data stored on the disk drive. Even with the improvements available in this update, Apple recommends you update the firmware on your FireWire drive. Please contact your drive manufacturer for more information.

so it is still present the old Firewire bug of http://www.macmaps.com/firewirebug2.html

In Safari, often the drop down menu would just freeze when you clicked the 'Bookmarks' menu. I THINK (touch laminated wood) that 10.3.6 has fixed this.

Scratch that, it still does it. 🙄

Installed on all three machines below, so far, so good.

i usually don't jump on updates, but what the hell.

Duff-Man says....I've installed the update and all seems to be functioning well with my G5. I did not bring the Powerbook home with me today so I will update that on monday as well.....oh yeah!

I think everyones forgetting the most important thing about this update, and that is:

BY HOW MUCH DOES THIS IMPROVE WOW FPS BY D:<

hm

Installed, almost everything right.

Broke my Software RAID 1 Harddrive Array...
(G5 2.0 Dual, 512MB, 2x250GB Maxtor)

I cannot fix it right now, possibly just my 2nd HD broke right when I updated ;-)

SYS runs fine on one HD now... I ll carry the drive to my local reseller and test it there.

Please send me a message if you get a similar problem. I ll post again if it was just a hardware failure.

Is there any hope for Mac networking or AFP?

I work at a printing firm and when browsing our server (running PC Mac Lan) within an open/save dialog it will beach ball for 30-60 seconds when you press the letter of the folder you want because there are just too many folders (539).

I don't know if this is related to PC MacLan but its horribly slow, and when you browse using SMB its instantaneous.... whoever's fault it is, they have yet to fix this.

P.S. My garage door opener still seems to be intact and functioning... maybe even a little snappier.

*grammar fix

The update did not fix the ATI 9800XT "ripple" glitch. I was really hoping it would since there were ATI drivers in the update...but no such luck.

Safari is faster

Safari seems to have speeded up, and I've noticed that "Alt-Tabing" between apps is faster.

Just MHO.

Hmm... wouldn't consider that PC MacLan might me the problem?

DVD player does not work correctly.

When first playing a wide screen film it doesn't use the full width of the screen. Using the menu I have to select the different sizes of window and finally full screen. Using the hot keys do not work.

Also with a full screen film the same effect - as default full screen is 3/4 of the screen. To get really full screen I have to cycle through the different sizes.

This bug should have been picked up during beta testing.

I was going to wait for a few days to install this update, but heck, everyone said things are cool and I can't wait. I have faith in u macheads 😉

hmm... after waking from sleep for the first time after this update, the fans in my SP rev. A 1.8 Ghz G5 came on louder than I've ever heard them. It sounded like a jet engine and lasted several minutes. Troubling... 😱

Wierd upgrade issue on iBook

I updated my Powerbook without issue. When we updated my daughter's iBook, though, it rebooted and went to the login screen just fine - but when she logged in, Finder wouldn't run. Rebooted, logged in as the admin - same problem.

After trying to manually launch /System/Library/CoreServices/Finder unsuccessfully, I found that the problem was due to /System/Library/Frameworks/QuickTime.framework/Versions/A/QuickTime
being 0 bytes long now. (Sidenote: Why the heck would a QuickTime problem derail Finder???) Fortunately the BSD guts were all working correctly, so I was able to copy this file from my Powerbook via scp - at which point Finder launched and everything was peachy.

Has anyone run into this sort of thing before?

My iBook just stops at "Login Window Starting" on the boot screen. So that means I need to reinstall panther and all the updates? Any ideas on howto fix it without reinstalling?

I don't have my PowerBook to tell you the exact numbers, but it performed much better for me. But you never know, I could have played with one of those settings that don't take effect after restart of game and I forgot I did it 😕

Safari does feel a little faster, specifically switching between tabs. However it does nothing about the horrendous slowdown from numerous animated gifs. I really wish they'd fix that already.
