it's nice not having my macbook pro's speakers pop... that was getting very annoying in a quiet room

thankfully the popping sound was fixing

on my mini, everytime the ac came on "pop" went off "pop" ,

any thing large electrical switching caused a loud pop.

your external speakers' response to electrical disturbances will not be affected by any software update. i think these pops happen just because long unshielded speaker wire acts as an antenna--the same reason why they make periodic buzzing sounds when cell phones are nearby. when my downstairs neighbor started keeping a cell phone close enough to my speakers to cause this interference, i wrapped my speaker wire in tin foil, and this seems to have helped with both that and with popping from my light switches.

Hmmm...I still haven't had a kernel panic or my wifi flaking out (although it is slow...)
I'll be calling up apple if I get another frustrating kernel panic. I'm fed up with that 10.4.10 evil update!

Lingering balance issue

Had that as well, thought it was the jack socket or the sound card or something. Spent over £30.00 on a Griffin iMic so as to use USB and avoid the issue, still popped however.

BTW this was on an Intel MacMini.

You say with iChat it did this? It happened to me with MSN Messenger... are we on something here? IM apps related bug?

Apple confirmed a bug report I made after updating to 10.4.10, where my Logitech USB webcam no longer has mic input. I noticed this first in iChat. This latest audio update does nothing to fix this issue. So as it sits, I have video only, making iChat utterly useless for me.

I'm wholly disappointed in Apple lately. Have you noticed the state of their web site? Broken links everywhere.

Come on Apple, focus on your core.

Our society is...

You know, the fact that people whom voluntarily participate on forums, and get tired of hot topics is indicative of a growing problem in our society. Each of us needs to sit back, take a breath, relax and just enjoy the great things that Apple is bringing to the world, without getting pulled down in the silly impatience and frustration over trivial things that seems to abound with many.

A growing problem in our society? People who want to hear more about macs? Those that don't care for a product they're not going to buy? People who voice their dissatisfaction with what's popular? Or people writing in online forums against it, when clearly the whole world says: "Don't bother with the toaster, just slap some butter on it because this is the hottest thing since..."

So someone gets impatient because Apple has focused on the iPhone instead of the Mac, and writes about that frustration as a customer... that's their right and responsibility.

Now I have an image of Apple as a benevolent deity in my head, showering us with good works that we should just appreciate and be patient for... makes me chuckle. Who's paying who here? Though I suppose every religion has its outspoken advocates and its umm, "membership" fees!

Back on topic, thanks for the mac update Apple! Keep it up and I might renew my membership :)

Sound update didn't work

I just finished updating my mac and everything installed successfully and i restarted my macbook but i still get the "popping" noise. Any body else still have the problem?:apple:

The 10.4.10 v1.1 includes the Audio Update. Basically, it is for those who haven't updated to 10.4.10 yet... it is a combo of 10.4.10 and the Audio Update. If you have 10.4.10 already, all you need is the audio download and you're updated:)

Audio Update over 10.4.10 does not update these.

Mac OS X 10.4.10 Update v1.1
- RAW camera support
- Mounting and unmounting external USB devices
- Support for 3rd party software applications
- Security updates

Edit: I am most possibly wrong, sry.

It doesn't need to, as those were updated in the original 10.4.10 update. That is why 10.4.10 v1.1 isn't needed if you already have 10.4.10... 10.4.10 v1.1 is just 10.4.10 plus Audio Update... see http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=305533 for more information ... specifically the Other section, where the only v1.1 reference is where it explains that v1.1 includes the Audio Update. Trust me, Software Update isn't excluding v1.1 for a reason:)

Edit: atp- quite alright!

See my edit, sorry!

I don't think the audio update works. I can still faintly hear those pops and noises. However, I am not bothered enough by them to do anything radical.

What about PPC??? Some people are having the audio problem on G4 and G5 so I'm stuck with 10.4.9 until this is resolved!

interesting! I have been hearing the pops but thought it my local power company having issues thru my ext speakers or my APC smartUPS not filtering like it should.

nice!

Perfect!

I had the audio popping problem on my 20" iMac and was starting to get really annoyed with it and this update has sorted it out completly! Brilliant, well done Apple again!

I installed the Audio update earlier this evening and after I installed it my wireless is not working, its not seeing my wireless network. I wasn't having the popping problem so I guess I shouldn't have installed it GRRR!!!

EDIT: Forgot to add this is on a Core Duo Macbook, with 10.4.10 installed.

10.4.10 v1.1, now that's funny.

What's that all aboot? I've got better things to do than get high on Apple's gadgets. And if I want to relax, I'll spend it listening to Tori Amos on my high-end audio rig using an uncompressed format, not an iPod. Let me know when Apple supports high-end audio, not kiddie formats with cheap headphones.

So sorry if I'd rather hear about MAC news, not Apple gadgets.

Well I didn't have any problems before really except for the lack of volume available with built-in speakers (but i don't expect or need much from them). And after installing I haven't had any issues but the speakers still can't belt it out.

I have had no balance or popping or sync problems (that I know of) but the max volume level seems to have increases by about 25%, maybe more, using built-in speakers and head phones. I no longer have to lean into my MacBook to hear music if there is mild-to-moderate background noise. Still not as loud as when using bootcamp, but better than the pre-Audio_Update. I was wondering how long it was going to take Apple to "fix" that (though I'm not sure a 25% increase on some but not all systems can be considered a fix to the low-volume-when-booted-to-Mac-OS issue!).
