You crazy NZ freaks and your messed up time zones...

Anyway, you live on the north island? I have friends in Hastings/Napier area. Never been, but beautiful country.

Your signature must substitute "elicit" for "illicit". Both have distinct meanings.

You're quite right, but I didn't write it ;)

I do, although I'm a few hours' drive away from Napier/Hastings.

Seriously, what the hell is going on with Apple.

This thread and its length and the amount interest in a dot release--a dot release--shows the problems and pain in Tiger.

Developers have not received another build in over a week. The last build had, "no known issues."

What is going on? Apple banging out more bugs? A big set of announcements next week? Steve not happy with the release?

It baffles the mind. Usually I get my updates, install them, and don't care one way or another. But man alive, Tiger desperately needs serious help, and it can't come soon enough.

What's going on? As far as I can tell, Apple hasn't seeded a new build of 10.4.2 for more than a week. Either they found a major bug in build 8C33 which caused a delay or they just want to make sure there's no bug left the final build. Either way, it's good Apple takes all the the time they need to make sure 10.4.2 is as flawless as possible.

You still have answered your original bet, guarantee, or promise. ;)

Any comment? :D

Anyone considered the fact that 10.4.2 is being rolled into boxed copies of Tiger an issue for the delay. It's a bit like 10.x releases. After it's being declared GM, it's 2 weeks before the official release. Maybe we are all just waiting for the boxed versions to reach the supply chain.

Irrespective, what a pain!

New Apple products on July 7th

This is Macbidouille (www.hardmac.com) report:

Apple has asked media/news networks to be prepared for major announcements and/or new products, to be launched before or on July 7th. Some products should be announced before this date.
If we remember correctly, the last time Apple has given a date to media/news network was for the launch of iPod Photo.
Based on Steve Jobs' announcement during the last WWDC Keynote, the new product(s) to be released will not be a Mac, but rather a revolutionary software and/or hardware.

Very cool, can't wait to see what the next couple of Tuesdays bring, obviously along with the "main" announcement on the 7th!

...expect the release of the new iTunes. We're tracking, hoping, begging for an update to the OS here. Don't mix rumors. It's bad for morale.

That "Your software is up to date" starts to sound to me like -Your software is outdated :D
I know, I know; Tiger is years ahead of longhorn. It is just that I hate waiting; damn rumor sites, they had to let the cat out of the bag. :D

Backup B4 10.4.2

Any quick recommendations on how to do a backup before the upgrade. I have an external LaCie D2 250GB HD. You can private message me to save bandwidth. No flames please.

TIA

Build 8C40 Posted

Happened within the last few hours. A few more Wifi, core image and directory service bug fixes. I think this build will be released next week. The seed says, again, that there are no known issues.

Thanks for that info Dave - it's great to get some solid info once in a while. I'm glad that Apple's developers have been hard at work on a new build.

Thank you DaveL for the information.

This makes me feel great. 7 more builds and a week more of bug fixing. I really am happy Apple is still stomping out the bugs in Tiger--it certainly needs it.

Nothing will make me happier than to have a stable and usable Tiger. It's a great operating system when it actually works as designed.

I hope this release is everything we hope, and then I can go back to generally ignoring bug fixes--install and forget--and focusing on what cool new hardware Apple has for us.

You mean like that cool new Intel processor that Apple always told us was far inferior to the PowerPC?
